I have kept my CRE 8900 Circa 2012. Rarely use it . However It is a trust worthy back up in case my Yaesu 857D has any problems on my mobile station.. I also recently bought a CRT SS 9900 . Got to say the receive on that radio is 9/10 for a relatively cheap export rig and ultra small like the CRE 8900. Great channel good content.. Subbed..

I wish I had purchased one of these when they were available, but I waited. Now you have to try to find one used on Ebay. That is how I got my Galaxy DX93T, got lucky on Ebay.

Great performer as a mobile rig. A little on the deaf side on RX. The stock mic is for the bin..

The CRE 8900 display seemed alot better light than the Alinco version. On my Cre i got audio through the speaker slightly on ssb with powered mics it was more noticable on am though. The Alinco was the same i had both versions. Still a brilliant little radio perfect for mobile. I have the lincoln 2 plus now and i still prefer the cre8900 to the Lincoln 2.

i have 3 of these radios...first version had a 10kc issue going 20kc's but my local shop fixed it.....watch out for long term use in the mobile....i had 3 of the colors on the display go out....the green went totally black and the aqua, smoky blue gray and purple all stopped....only colors i have now are blue, red, lavander.....vibration could cause minor failures, but overall a fine fine rig. oh and if you fry them due to plugging in a improper mic, they can be brought back to life,

And they run very hot put a fan on the radio and use a kicker turn the watts down for the kicker and let the kicker get hot and a fan on the kicker, radio stays cool and have lots contacts I like my ,8900 the 6900 and my magnum 257hp got a new Mike and with top gun it sings great audio great power the rfx75 and put a fan on the radio nice and cool all most 24mhz to 30+ MHz a great radio

This radio is now no longer available in the USA. Nobody has them in stock and its very unlikely they will be available again...Something about RCI suing the company about the "e-tone" wording for the echo......... :-(

I won't be going anywhere near 10 metres, except maybe to listen on the - very - odd ocassion. I prefer 'Freebanding', so East is East and West is West, as Kipling correctly said. I'm sure I don't need to elaborate further kind Sir....

Great review, and fully agree to what you say, except one point, reading the display in daylight it may have been improved from the first version (I have the newest model), but still an issue. Otherwise a fantastic radio.

why do you say swing on the am band. 4:12 are you meaning searching up and down the frequency

I've also got version 2 and had problems with the standard mic, some times when I key up it changes down a channel and sometimes doesn't key up at all, so I bought the astatic road devil and having problems with that as well, there is a slight delay on modulation when keying up the mic and also for some reason the swr is slightly higher when using the road devil ,compared to the standard mic. What do you think is wrong with the mic's. Thanks in advance.

Yes they make a great radio and the a ,50p mike mine has no Mike as it's very poor so I will get a new power echo Mike from knights and it will be the Telcom, 1000 there great mikes

What's the difference between 10 meter and 11 meter radios? Are they just cb frequencies or are the both cb and ham radio frequencies?

In response to illegal operations.. almost every human on earth is breaking laws using anything other than FRS radios. What would kill me is HAM users who do not use proper radio etiquette.

Hmm then i get it was just another silly CB shop rumor... Im am using a first edition CRE 8900 that i borrowed from a CB shop. The guy is a Stryker dealer and wants me to buy the new Stryker SSB but i cant see spending that much for a radio that is almost more than an RCI 2970. Im sold on the 8900!!!!

As long as you aren't operating on the ham bands knock your self out. That isn't just directed at you, but unlicensed 10 meter operators in general. Thankfully I haven't come across anyone in my area operating illegally on 10 meters. Also, I am curious, why can't you be bothered with ham?

vvvvv729 there is no diference between the two except the size but the later 8900 has color change display i have both in my opinion the cre 8900 is better i have the mass dx 500 its good
