Looks interesting and i already own two Creality 3D printers and not disappointed in their build quality and performance so I would expect similar for this device. Creality have released two different scanners to date but I have not been wowed by the performance and price of these. I own a Revopop Pop and expecting my Pop II (0.1mm resolution) at end of the month so I would be interested to see a side by side comparison of this new Creality Lizard with the Pop II.

Hi there. Great review on the CR Scan Lizard scanner. I’m watching the low-cost scanner tech, but I’m not ready to pull the trigger yet. Yes the precision is there, but the scanned surfaces are still pretty wonky. Anyway, I have some Fusion 360 mesh pointers for you. I’m not an expert, but I’ve been getting a lot of experience over the last 6 months or so. First, instead of using the INSERT tool on the right side of the SOLID toolbar, switch to the MESH tool tab & use the INSERT MESH tool on the far left of the toolbar. You will gain a lot more control of the mesh parameters, including units used to import. Then you can change those parameters later by clicking the operation in the timeline. Second, you can create a sketch element where the mesh body intersects a plane, much like you would with PROJECT INTERSECT on a solid body. To do this, place a construction plane where you want the intersection sketch to be. Then while still in the MESH tool tab, select the CREATE MESH SECTION SKETCH tool (3rd from left). Then you can do measurements directly on the intersection sketch, or you can add sketch elements to mate with the mesh-body. Third, you can go back to the SOLID toolbar & create solid bodies from the intersection sketch you just created. I you’re adding volume features to the model, it may be enough to leave them as solid bodies. But if you want to do subtractive or cut operations, you will need to convert them to mesh bodies first. To do that, back in the MESH toolbar, select the TESSELLATE tool (second from left). Be careful to select the REFINEMENT level that gives you enough detail without overwhelming your processor. Fourth, MESH COMBINE works much the same as SOLID COMBINE, with ability to Join, Intersect, Cut, or Merge mesh bodies. MESH PLANE CUT is almost like SOLID SPLIT BODY, except that it only works on a plane. Happy meshing!

@@MakingforMotorsport sweet. Doing those complex curves is certainly not easy. Would take a lot of test prints to get right without the scanner. But it's good to see new 3d scanners at what will hopefully be a lower price point. Still outside my budget, but they're getting closer!

I think it would be easier and cheaper to cover the bumper with tape/plastic, mark it up to add texture, then use a camera to capture at all angles. Import images into meshroom...and now you have a 3D model you can clean up and use.

Wow wow wow! Leave it up to Creality to mainstream what was once exclusive and expensive, bringing down to a consumer level! 👍👏👏👏👏 Truly magnificent and I absolutely plan to buy! I have a LOT of projects that can benefit from an accurate point cloud especially since I'm buying a house that needs some invested elbow grease. But most importantly, I'd be getting for my cars, a 1974 Datsun 260 with a lot of parts that can't be found anymore or are so astronomically high in price it's bullox. Also have a 2015 Mustang that I'd like to try making various aero bits for to help improve my track times (these cars make a lot of swirling eddies in rear and underneath)
@MakingforMotorsport
@MakingforMotorsport 2 жыл бұрын
I am impressed with it, and I think a lot of people who are disappointed on here are likely expecting more from consumer scanners. As for a whole room I dont think this is the toy, the iPhone LIDAR seems good for that, but aero pieces to pick up panels… yeah, I reckon it’s gonna help you out! 👍
2 жыл бұрын
@@MakingforMotorsport not whole room stuff but just small irreplaceable bits. Like my door handles; they're original to the house and I quit like them but they're worn out and their inner workings have geometry that will be hard for me to replicate freehanded. Great video! Really impressive scanner!!! I am shocked by the accuracy! If you need any help learning the mesh tools in Fusion 360 I would be happy to lend a hand. With the flange on your idle air valve you can create a mesh section sketch, and then edit that sketch and then use "Fit curves to mesh section". Fusion will allow you to place circles, lines and splines based on the mesh section sketch. It does a pretty good job of averaging the mesh section to place a circle. I did a BMW motor mount off a pretty bad scan and it was really close!

With the rise of 3d printing and the great results you can get from a pimped up Ender 3d which I use, I think to be able to use a decent affordable 3d scanner to create files to print is brilliant. So far 3d scanners have been not very good and very expensive, since this is a CREALITY product and I really love my printer I am going to give this a punt on kickstarter - I vowed never again to back a tech product on Kick Starter as I have been ripped off too many times but this being Creality I am going to give them benefit of the doubt to deliver - Great video many thanks - I have backed it.

I mean, let’s not pretend that the Einscan SE is a perfect solution, and even the scans I have seen with that aren’t perfect even in the perfect low light, correctly sized object, it’d be useless for 90% of what a car guy may use a scanner for (mainly handheld). Now this may not be perfect but it comes enough bases to be useful… I think unless you are dropping some serious cash for a full on pro level tool, the usage case will be narrow or the performance will be less than metrology….

Hello, I have a curiosity, if you haven't tried before. If you have access to professional 3d scanners could you please use to compare the results of this creality to one of those?! Lets say pick a car part, like an engine cover of sorts, or the steering wheel (the modern cars have intricate design steering wheel centre area, so i think it would be great. And just show us a comparison of the object they output. I am really curious how the fine details and ridges and creases look in the final object Thank you

@@MPbdy they all need a “range” as they are all “optical” in some sense, even high end machines have a minimum and maximum range, and you also need to get different angles the on the subject (like straight on, above angle and below). I'm trying to think of a solution for my AEM water/meth kit for my 2014 Tremor. I've got in Fusion a couple times to tinker around and was able to make a box with the shell command, just haven't gotten much further lol. Hmmm now i don´t know if the CR-Scan Lizard or the Revopoint Mini is the better option. The CR-Scan Lizard is about 250€ cheaper. The most things i will scan are some engine parts and stuff like your control valve. From the feeling I find the method with the blue light better with the Revopoint. I also learned from some videos that some LED lights interfere negatively with the scanner. It doesn't matter if it's a CR or a Revo, it's still a lot of money and I don't want to buy the wrong one.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t feel like there is a 1 size fits all and at the consumer end of the range each scanner has its ups and downs. The mini is giving great results (I haven’t tried it in person) but for most of my applications it is well over the top and to limited in terms of scan area, the Pop2 seems like another good option and might be the overall better scanner than the lizard, once you factor in the software experience (not played with the Pop2 but that’s my impression), and the CrScan is the best at body panels and larger objects. It’s a big investment but I think either the Lizard or Pop2 is the best, most flexible tool unless your going to be doing regularly large or very small objects…
