Fact about Otter
- There's frame limit at 10,000 frames. So, you cannot go beyond this (5:30 minutes) It will force user to stop scanning even when your hardware is capable of.
- Otter tracks faster in geometry mode, adding geometry to the object will help with tracking and it's much better than marker mode.
Fact about Raptor
- NIR cannot see black color in small radius curve shape in both geometry and marker mode.
- No frame limit found. Only warning at 10,000 frames.
- Blue laser scan smooth like butter.

Hi, could you try the raptor in direct sunlight? or a very long scan with little detail (using markers) I hired a Einscan HD for a couple of weeks which worked great in the workshop but would lose tracking in direct sun or scanning a long object (2mtrs) even when using markers, the EinScan HX with blue laser was supposed to help but the HX is way out of my budget, While I understand the Raptor is a "Budget" Scanner your tests are proving it to be a very capable scanner.

I’m struggling to understand how the Otter’s NIR can see the black object no problem, but the Raptors NIR can not see it at all. I would have thought that the Otter and raptor would share the same NIR scanning sensors. You didn’t say which you liked better in the end. It is strange that the otter is quite a bit heavier but physically much smaller. Thanks again. I really enjoy all of your videos. 🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼😎🍀☮️

I would like to buy a scanner for automotive purposes. Using it for small objects right up to large full car scans. For example I’d like to scan the interior space of a car to create a race spec roll cage design in Fusion. That I can outsource all of the bending and notching to a specialised CNC bender notching machine. Please keep creating great content comparing these scanners.

Can you combine scans from IR mode and laser mode respectively taken with the Raptor? It would be nice to combine the texture with the accuracy of the laser

Yes, and you can even combine scans from Raptor and Otter. Example, get rough detail of large object with Otter NIR large mode and scan high detail area with Raptor blue laser then merge them together.

I've that Revopoint mini too. I know exactly how you feel. I'd recommend Raptor for mechanical object, it's easier to scan and the accuracy is high, up to 50 micron in my testing. But if you use Otter, the accuracy is lower, around 200 microns.

Thanks for the (again) great video. I want to ask if you could create an additional video where you give a deep dive in the steps that you performed in the program from 13:08 to merge the two point clouds? I do often have the same problem that merging using the builtin tool does not work and would really learn a way like you showed. How is that program called?
