This is great. It feels like some kind of black magic. I barely understand most of what's happening with these materials, but it's really cool to see them work. Hopefully doing it enough will demystify it eventually.

This is how I started. If you continue, you will find it makes more sense in time.

Thanks for this! If I wanted to make the leather black instead of brown, would I still need to use a ColorRamp node or could i just make the base color black?
@blenderbitesize2 жыл бұрын
I would change the brown color in the color ramp to a mid grey. The reason for this is that you need (in my opinion) some variation in tone across the surface.

What version of blender are you using?

I tried connecting a mix color shader after the color ramp going into the Base Color of the Principled BSDF. With that, I can create a group node that gives me direct control over the color. Thoughts?

If it works for you and gives the result you need, go for it.

Hello Mix RGB is not working anymore, what to do now?
@blenderbitesize Жыл бұрын
The mix RGB node was replaced in versions of Blender after about 3.5 with a single MIX node. You can replace it with that.
