This is a great video and you're right, it's hard to find custom event. Others skip right over this part. I'm create a custom event for an e-book download button.

Thank you for creating this video! Is the data from tag manager collecting from the fb ads alone? Let's say you have the fb pixel installed in other platforms as well like a webinar and teachable, how can you track that with google tag manager for custom events?

I had no idea GTM had a FB template! That makes it easier. I hated looking for the code for all the events. Also, yes, this kind of content is hard to find on YT!

Thanks for a great video. Helped me create some custom events. I have a question. While my custom events are firing properly, I'm not able to see them as a conversion event when creating ads using the ad manager. What am I doing wrong?

Hello and thanks for this video. It is not clear to me the first passage: i.e the selection of the Facebook Template. What that is for? Is that for the Custom tag type for the pixel?

So instead of using custom HTML tags you can use templates. It’s the same thing I just find the templates easier to work with :)

Can you please address the fact that there is no way to bypass the Rules section. My custom events are based on non-url based triggers. However the form requires us to add a URL Rule

thanks for the video, was looking exactly for this what you covered! One issue though - in Events Manager Test Events Tab my browser events not appearing (GTM fires properly, Pixel helper shows events green; ad blocker disabled; used various browsers, but still no browser events appear). Though, I see Server events properly in Test Events tab. Any ideas how I could provoke Browser Events to be visible in Test tab? Cannot solve it for weeks now.

It’s hard to say what the problem is without looking at it… But here’s some advice 1. Use Google Chrome 2. Make sure to publish your changes inside GTM. If you want you can also join our FB group and share some screenshots and I would be able to further help.

Hi Cedric. My custom events are firing twice. Is it due to the pixel on the website and tags firing on GTM simultaneously? Do I need to remove the pixel on the website?

Hi could you not install the FB pixel once and than send customer events by creating Custom HTML Tags in GTM. In your example this would be: fbq('trackCustom', 'website_Engagement');

thanks... pls I am having an issue, can't get to use my custom conversion with Conversion objective. it keeps giving me an error that the custom conversion can omly work with lead objective. Pls how can I resolve this issue?

Thanks for the great video. Quick question, we already manually installed the Pixel Code into our website. But now we want to move all those Pixels to GTM for easier management. What will happen if I delete the pixels on our website and create identical events in GTM? (assuming I use the same javascript code).

Nothing negative would happen the only change would be that your Facebook code will now be on GTM instead of directly on the website.

Amazing video! I noticed when you were creating the customer conversion tag in FB it did not require you to set a rule. When I am setting up my custom conversion it is requiring me to put in a rule but I dont want to. Any idea how to get around this?

You could create a rule that won’t block your event (create a broad rule). But I do need to make another video on this subject (things change).

Great video! Is there another way to view my events aside the Facebook Event Manager dashboard, as that seems not to be detailed enough and some data vanish after a while?

That’s the only place in events manager but you could also send the data to another 3rd party data warehouse like BigQuery.

please answer me please in your example you have created a custom event and then you have a crated a custom conversion with that custom event my question is if you are testing when you click anywhere in the page you will fire the custom event which related to all engagement clicks will the custom conversion also be fired also alongside with that event and will show up both in the same time in the event received ?? or you will just receive only the custom event alone and you won't see the custom conversion created by that event?

hello please answer me thank you can you add two urls for the same custom conversion ?? like if you have a thank you page that have two different urls can you just put these two different urls in the same custom conversion ? so when someone end up in the thank you page with either url you will get an alert for the same custom conversion

Can you track custom conversions in ad traffic campaigns? or is it only confined to conversion campaigns?

You would need to use the conversion objective to do that.

Great Video! I think this would be useful for the Facebook page Score, is there q way to track a purchase via custom event to avoid Facebook feedback score? Another question with this custom event can you set up as a result so you can know what’s the cost for that result, like when you do standard purchase? Thanks a lot

page score is another metric.... you should capt info like demographics/ Ids/ cookies / email/ etc more info about lead you get more score you get....

Hey Cedric, again great video. Would it make sense to create a custom event (Website Engagement) for all URLs across a website (not funnel) and then see where people are engaging the most with your website, and then optimize for the highest activities with custom conversions?

Yes, definitely an interesting metric to look at but I wouldn’t optimize for that… I would optimize for something that is a bit lower down the funnel.

Take another look at your trigger or verify if GTM is installed on all pages :)

Hi Cedric, great videos - many thanks. With this implementation, the tag fires multiple times (once per every click on a page, for example) Pixel Helper gives me a little warning: "Pixel Activated Multiple Times"..."The Pixel Activated Multiple Times error means that a Pixel with the same ID and event name was sent multiple times to Facebook. The same event should only occur once upon page loading. If the event is sent with different custom data parameters, those parameters should be aggregated into a single Pixel event." Should I pay any attention to this? Under this logic, I should remove the "all clicks" trigger and leave the tag as simply based on the scroll. Thank you in advance!

My events fire correctly in the preview mode of GTM but do not show up in FB events (testing). Any ideas? Is there some integration step I am missing?

In the test event, I have all custom events that I created in GTM but when I create custom events there are no created events at all, What am I missing?

So when you’re using the test event tool you don’t get your custom events? What about in GTM preview mode… Is the tag firing?
