So sorry to reload but I owe it for some of the subscribers that missed it. But a full build is on its way.
Software used:
Inkscape, for drawing.
Affinity Photo, for clean up.
Paint, for the BMP export.
Decal paper used, Experts-Choice.

Using the decals to make a mask to paint the white...that's pretty brilliant. I've used white decal sheets occasionally and I've gotten good at doing all the trimming, but yea...not having to do that would be great. I had a photo-editing background before I started modeling, so custom decals have always been something I really enjoy. Thanks for showing how you do it.

Nice video! I often make my own decals now but work around printing myself and the limits of that. I design the decalsheet and then sent it to a company that prints them for you. Usually the quality is great, you can print any colour (depending on what a company offers ofc) and they're ready to use without any spray. Might be a bit more expensive, but more foolproof. And in my case I don't have the room for a printer and equipment at home.

That looks great! I'm working on a kit which has pretty yellowed decals. Maybe this would be a way to fix them :-)

Great workGreg amazing but you do need a lot of experience with the software to get these results, this is not easy or straight forward for the every day person it would take a while to learn and navigate your way around this software, using the tools and naming renaming files ect before you got your great results .

Hello Greg thank you for the video and the information provided. I have one main problem with the decals I print and that is cracks on the edges where I cut them and believe me I tried deferent methods for cutting (new blades, razors, scissors) and different type of clear coots on the decals. can you help me what I'm doing wrong. Thank you

I cut a few millimetres away from the printed decal edge, never up to it.

Fantastic video! This is a perfect instructional for generating decals. I've got some 1/350 Aircraft which I think I'll have to do custom decals for and this sounds like the solution. What's your thoughts on choice of printer? Your canon seems to have excellent quality.

Hello Greg model would you be able to make me some decals am building an old Dragon kit OH6A cayuse 1/35 and the original decals are no good anymore. I would of course pay you for this I just don't have the printer to do this

Sorry, it's a road I don't want to go down. I try at all costs to avoid making homemade decals as it time consuming and can be hit and miss. It's usually the last resort for me.

Yes, it's a pain in the backside process. I try and avoid it at all cost. Build a version where the decals are readily available👍
