Excellent tutorial .. when I look at a mirror I think of it as a piece of glass with a silver/metal paint on the back-side. What this means is that if you put an object against the glass there will be a slight gap between the object and the mirroring metal (5-10 mm). I changed the recipe (in Cycles) to have a plan that was 1.0 metal with no roughness and then a cube with some width directly in front of it with 1.0 transmission ... to my eyes ... it looked just a little better as now we could see some more interesting reflection of the frame itself and when I had an object right up at the mirror (eg. writing on the mirror) it looked correct.

You can keep the "Shift" key pressed while moving the reflection plane, in order to control its position minutely. If it still does not work, you can start with a fresh new file and check if things work. Sometimes a blend file might just get corrupted to the point that something keeps on failing, but the same settings in a new file would work. If it still does not get solved, please send me your blend file so that I can investigate it further and suggest a fix. You can mail us at 5minblender@gmail.com Thanks!

Great! And what if need a correct reflection on multiple objects? For example, pieces of mirror or some windows in the building? Should i use this plane on each reflecting object or i can stretch it for all of them?
@5MinutesBlender3 жыл бұрын
You can stretch it for all of them. One plane is sufficient if the windows are nearly on the same plane. If not, you will need separate reflection planes.

Hi, there can be multiple possibilities why it is not working for you. In one similar case reported by someone, I found that the object's normal was pointing in the opposite direction. Please ensure that the surface normal points to the same direction where the reflection plane is i.e. the surface normal has to be outward. If nothing works out, you can send your blend file to us at 5minblender@gmail.com so that we can investigate it and get back to you with a solution. Thanks!

Thank you very much. It worked to me, but only for objects. I want to reflect a light (spot and sun), but I can't. Why can I do this?
@5MinutesBlender Жыл бұрын
Light objects cannot be seen, they only emit light to make other objects visible. If you want to actually see a sun object in the mirror, you need to create a sphere with emission shader that depicts a sun. Same for the spot light.

For some reason, I had to rotate the reflection plane -90 degrees instead of 90 degrees, otherwise it did not work. I'm using Blender 3.0.
@5MinutesBlender Жыл бұрын
That can happen due to the initial position of your object. Probably our viewport is rotated 180 degree than yours. Not a problem, you figured it out. Good!

I just modeled a three way fashion mirror. I see that the mirrors in the reflection don't reflect, they are grayed out. Could you explain that? Would it be too much to render?
@5MinutesBlender2 жыл бұрын
If you are using Eevee, it is the expected behavior. For mirror within mirror, we have to use Cycles. As you know, Eevee uses fake tracing, it is not a true picture of the objects. It does not use multiple reflections (which is essential for mirror within mirror scenarios). I suggest you to switch over to Cycles for this specific requirement.
@LouiseChib2 жыл бұрын
So I'm making a ballet studio with mirror walls. How do you reflect other mirrors onto another mirror?
@5MinutesBlender2 жыл бұрын
Good question! I think your best bet is to go for Cycles in that case, it can support reflection of mirror within another mirror, in a chain sequence. You need to use a separate reflection plane for each mirror. If you only need the mirror to be visible through another mirror, this same setup will work in Eevee as well - but it won't show the objects within the mirror. Cycles can do that easily, I have tested this. However, rendering time will increase considerably.
@ninjagogetta3 жыл бұрын
my mirror is still not working the way you've got it going the reflection plane is not working for me
@5MinutesBlender3 жыл бұрын
Okay, I can help you, but I need to know exactly what is the difference between our demonstration and your output. One possible cause may be the placement of the reflection plane. The thumb-rule is, it should follow the orientation of the mirror surface (I mean the rotation angles), it should be very close to the mirror surface, maybe even overlapping with the mirror surface slightly, but it should not overlap too much, most of its width should be outside the mirror surface. The best way to achieve this is, place any sphere in front of the mirror, and then move the reflection plane into the mirror and look at the reflection of the sphere on the mirror. Stop at a point where you think the reflection shows best. You can press the Shift key while moving the reflection plane, to gain finer control over its movement. Please let me know if this solves your issue. Otherwise, I would request you to send me a copy of your Blend file, so that I can look at it and find out the issue. You can get our contact details (Email ID) in the About section of this channel.

how to get perfect mirror effect in 3d mirrors
@5MinutesBlender3 ай бұрын
This method should work even for the latest Blender version. So please let me know what is not working for you? If you are looking for curved mirror, that is not yet possible in Eevee, you have to go for Cycles. Eevee can only generate flat mirrors with perfection.

Why don't he used extrude instead of Boolean modifier, pls reply 🙌
@5MinutesBlender2 жыл бұрын
We used a Boolean modifier for creating the frame. You can definitely do it in alternate ways, no issues. For example, you can extrude the surface and scale it down. But we also need a glass object. So we used this glass object for two purposes, it works as a glass, and it is also used in the Boolean modifier to create the frame. The frame is not very important for this tutorial. You can create it in other ways as well, completely fine 👍

I have done the 'exercise' 5 times following EVERY step EXACTLY yet I cannot get the REFLECTION PLANE to work. I create. rotate, resize and then move if extremely slowly towards the 'mirror' object yet the image of the sphere does not change from a reflection of 'half' the sphere to reflecting all the sphere. I have tried both Evee and Cycles and there is no difference.
@5MinutesBlender2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. I know that it may be very frustrating when something that should work - simply does not. But I can tell you two things. If it is not working in Cycles, there is probably something else missing because you need a reflection plane only in Eevee. Cycles always gives you perfect reflection even without a reflection plane. So if your setup is not working in Cycles, I guess the devil is hiding somewhere else. Secondly, I saw this error myself. For some unknown reason, once it happened that I was not able to create reflection at all in a project. Apparently there was nothing wrong. It went up to the level that I started doubting my blender skills! But it turned out that the particular file I was working upon was corrupted. I started with a new file and everything became perfect. That particular file somehow got messed up. In any case, if you are not able to figure out what is missing, you can send your blend file to us and we will revert back after checking the same. Our Email ID is given in the About section of this channel. Thank you!

@5MinutesBlenderАй бұрын
That "plane" under light probs is basically the old "reflection plane", the functionality is the same. I agree that a more straight-forward option for a mirror surface would have been better.
