thanks for this man, have an old Dell precision i was giving a friend and he bought a nvme ssd with a pcie adapter and I was looking at some jerry rigged methods that were a pain. This made it simple and easy!

Chris Webb So it worked straight forward for you? And you easily figured out how to use the duet drive as your new UEFI bios in order to install the UEFI version of Windows? If so, glad someone got use from it. I been using duet now since 2016 on older machines just to get the benefits of a NVMe ssd's. Not everyone will notice the difference, but I clearly can. Even on older machines when you run every thing between PCIe NVMe, CPU and Memory you get a noticeable latency decrease. SATA is the weakest link by far.

yeah, i searched and found this method, i was kind of already in the process but your vid let me find latest download and see how it looks from an end user perspective because I didn't know what it would look like booting to windows 10. My usb device wasn't showing up and I didn't know how it would look till i saw the video so that was nice for me to figure out what was wrong Turned out i didn't have my win10 image in GPT.

i downloaded a zip file of DUET plus ReFIND USB key creator and have a problem with it;the usb DUET creation utility DOES NOT copy the DUET boot sector file to the usb drive to make it bootable!! How may i copy the DUET boot sector file to a usb key with windows 3rd party apps such as Rufus,or winsetupfromusb??

Hi. Many thanks for the tutorial. Managed to install windows 10 on SSD on a old computer. But after installation I am unable to boot windows from duet/refind loader. But I can boot windows thorugh clover. I dont like Clover because it loads windows in low resolution. Any tips why I cant load windows through duet/refined.

All I can say is to go to the win-raid website where they discuss this method and ask around for yourself. I don't have this mod any more and my current system is a AMD Ryzen system, so I don't know what could be your issue. Just visit that forum thread and ask your question in there please. @@rgray318 looks like I had created wrong USB disk. Recreated the disk and now everything worked like a charm. Manu many thanks once again . I had been trying to install windows 10 on my nvme for the past 10 days with no success. Your method worked like a charm. God bless you.

using this comment as my notepad. to-do :- 1.) mbr2gpt to convert existing mbr to gpt 2.) Before that, create duet with refind onto old 2gb usb. 3.) Try booting this Will it work? Only one way to find out. and rip 2gb pendrive. Looks like i need this "goober" or "secure key" to boot into my laptop lol Edit:- it worked like a charm I managed to find duet 2019 in a hp support site, unlike 2015 as shown in this video. any way to get rid of the duet with refind usb for a cleaner experience? Edit :- the pendrive can be discarded and replaced with an sd card if one has an sdcard slot yum

Will the duet USB drive always need to be connected?

Yes, the duet is what makes your motherboard compatible with the nvme drive. Without the duet booting first your motherboard can not see the nvme drive nor the operating system on it. That is why you use a very small USB drive on the back side of the board.

Lol, that don't work - when i'm select my flash drive with installed Win10 in DUET REFINED, windows logo is loading and all stops - circle progress bar don't shown. I decided to wait 20 minutes, but nothing has changed. How to fix that?

I have an asus p6t deluxe v2 240GB SATA SSD with windows 10 1803 1TB SSD DATA DISK 1 NVME adata gammix s11 pro with and 16x pci-e adapter. i'm trying to install DUET-REFIND in a USB PENDRIVE but i always get errors. CreateUSB g: FORMAT Read DBR: successful! Patching FAT32 BPB: successful! ERROR: Could patch own IDE disk! GenBootSector: ERROR 1003: Invalid option value Output file can't be found. @rgray318 I could not get .dxe file? Did not work. Dxe.efi The system cannot find the file specified". Also, when booting the USB I get BRESTART, stuck on SYSTEM MEMORY TEST OK. What to do?

thank you very much for your instruction. but even with this method i couldn't install Win 10 x64. i don't know what is going in my PC. I booted the DUET so then clicked to install Windows but suddenly the PC was going to restart!

most likely not. if youre trying to boot off of an nvme drive using a pcie express adapter then you need at least windows 8 as it is the first version of windows that supports it. Windows 10 is preferred as it has native support for nvme drives

@@iota2619 not an nvme. a normal ssd/hdd but with gpt table. legacy bios boots usb installation drive but windows wont install on gpt drive and i cant format it since i have other partitions with data

@@iota2619 yeah, the only solution I found is by using syslinux and DUOS, which requires a bit of understanding about how linux commands, tools and system partition tables work, dont want to risk messing everything up :D
