That's what I was taught in middle school. 3 primary colors, magenta, cyan and yellow, that you can mix among them and with black and white. I have always thought of red and green as a mix with different percentage of magenta and yellow, with a tiny cuantity of blue, for red, and a mix in different percentages of cyan and yellow with a tiny cuantity of magenta for green. So, using different percentages of colors I have realized that my particular mix of skin, eyes and hair colors is more flattered when I move over the section of color wheel with the lowest percentage of yellow. That makes the small cuantity of yellow in my skin stand out, match with my eyes (lots of yellow in them) and hair (ashy, ashy, ashy, but also with yellow in it), and look more balanced overall. At least is the way I finally reached to understand after years of auto-observation and reading and watching experts on that matter. In conclusion, to simplify it all for me, I focus in yellow, avoiding it on what I wear to enhance it on my skin and balance wit hair and eyes. Tricky, huh?
@athag12 жыл бұрын

Yay! I love that you called me "cool people"! I have slight olive undertones and can wear some of those "border" and darkened hues (red purple, burgundy, mulberry, eggplant) pretty well, but if they start taking on their warmer utterances (maroon, tomato red) my skin immediately looks blotchy and my under eye area becomes very blue and looks hollow. Both dark and bright purple-pinks (fuchsia, raspberry, hot pink, magenta) make my eyes sparkle, not so with peachy-pinks, corals, or pale cherry blossom pinks. Green is flattering, too, as long as it's not dark olive, khaki, absinthe, or chartreuse. And most blues are complimentary (navy, cerulean, wedgwood, chambray, cyan, teal, indigo, cobalt) against the high contrast of my skin and hair/eyes, as long as they are not too pastel (light turquoise, lavender blue). I feel those drain the color in my skin and sort of "float" on my body, like they don't belong on me. I loved this video (and all of your other videos!) Thank you!

Loved the video ! One trick I learned from a color consultant is that you don't have to wear only what suits you, you just have to control the place where the color touches your skin and wear what you like elsewhere. You can cheat ! For instance, I am cool-toned, but I like and wear a lot of black. I just never let black be next to my skin. If I wear head-to-toe black, I make sure I have a cool scarf between the black top and my skin, so the transition is smooth and more harmonious. I also use blazers to the same effect; or color-block warm bottoms with cool tops (this is more tricky but also a lot of fun), especially in winter, where I wear gloves and closed-toe shoes. I happen to like the "pop effect" produced by mixing warm and cool tones; but it has to be done with caution and subtlety. Make-up and accessories are my (shy) best friends !

A very nice illustration of colour. I'm a blue-eyed blonde with cool undertones and freckles. I can get away with most colours but I look best in cool shades, especially blue and blue-green. I can also wear cool primrose yellow and cool pink with blue in it, such as magenta. I look terrible in warm colours like rust or burgundy - my purple has to be a plum. For brown I wear very dark chocolate, almost black, or taupe. Can't wear beige, but a cool straw that matches my hair works well.

I usually don’t gravitate to greens or blues, but according to your video, I’m indeed cool undertones! I usually choose black, white, and a deep wine colored red. I feel like there are also cool reds that could have been mentioned, but I enjoyed your video and found it very helpful! Thank you so much!❤

I am cool, and warm is the 60% of my clothes. Now I know why I had wierd feelings to see reds next to blues in my wardrobe :) It was just a chaos. All of them out now. Everything looks so harmonious!!! It feels like that it clears my personality too. :) (Meaning inside.) Thank you Justine, your sharing is very valuable.

That's me!!!! I am on the Cool Winter category and this video is very helpful. I find that , with fashion and makeup, cool toned girls are usually left out or given one option.

I transitioned to Grey Hair 👩🏻🦳 this past year & my skin is neutral so this was very helpful. I am redoing my color palette from makeup to wardrobe 🙏

Thank you, Justine! My understanding is that white comes in warm and cool. For instance, ivory is white with a bit of yellow and eggshell white is white plus a bit of grey. So, can people with cool undertones wear all whites or just certain ones? Also, are there any pinks and greys that are cool? Thank you, love your videos!

I've known for decades that I am a cool toned person or skin tone. I have always been attracted to blues and greens, and various hues of these shades. Or is it various shades of these hues? Anyway, this was a fun video on how to build a wardrobe based on whether a person's skin tone is cool or warm. Thanks for your fun and informative videos.

I have discovered a new interest un purple. I used to dislike the colour until I realised recently that it actually suits me very well. Now I'm trying to find out which purple will flatter me the most. I'm still unsure about my undertone and think I could be neutral, leaning towards warm. We'll see.

Very informative! I’m cool toned, but I wear mostly tan and red. The blues make me feel sad and the warms are so cozy.

Hello, Justine! Greetings from the U.S.☀ I am a warm to neutral yet enjoy cool tone colors such as deep blues and greens. I love purples but would only use in an accessory. Your color palette for wardrobe was perfect for a fair individual. My late Mom was a fair skinned gal and your palette selections looked exactly like her wardrobe colors. ✨

Hi Justin! I’ve been following your channel for over 2 years now and I enjoy every one of your video. I have learned so much from you! This video so far is my favorite because I can personally relate to it. My wardrobe has exactly the colors you used in the color palette but I still feel like I have nothing to wear. Now I’m inspired by this video and am definitely gonna start creating fun outfits. Thank you so much ♥️ looking forward to your next video 👍👍

This idea might help: I followed along with my color wheel. I just checked with Amazon and the wheel that I bought years ago is 5.5 inches (I'm American) and $10 (I'm still American) and it is still available. Some time ago, I looked into buying the color swatches which Justine uses. They don't fit my budget but the color wheel works great. Greetings to all and thanks to Justine.

I really like those videos and I've been interested in color temperature for a while. I'm a golden-neutral skin on the warmer side but I used to wear cool colors only growing up simply because that's what was selling at the time. It made me look sick. So I've begun to research which colors work for me. The thing is that I also am not a fan of warm colors: I don't wear yellow or orange, and I mostly only have dark greens and reds. I have found blues that work for me, especially those that go closer to gray. I think it's possible for someone with a warm skin tone to find hues that work for them in any color. Maybe they have to be diluted/faded a lot, but I still think it works!

Thank you! This palette looked quite similar to my wardrobe: cool greens are my most flattering colour and I have worked outward from there. In response to your question about why there are more cool toned people watching your channel, I can only speak from my own experience, but I haven't been well-served by make-up counters in shops, etc, in the past, so I have a strong interest in the topic. There has been a tendency to try to convince me that warm-toned foundations and colour makeup look good on me, probably because that was all that was available. Actually, they make me look ill! Luckily, I was correctly identified as having cool skin while I was in my teens, even though I have dark brown eyes and there are some warm tones in my hair. So I could stand my ground when people tried to put me into terracotta or mustard which looked awful on me but great on my warm-toned mother.

Thanks for this; I really liked the palette you created and never would have thought to bring in a pop of a warm color. Do you have any hints for how I can avoid bringing home the "wrong" colors? I find it really challenging to determine the temperature of color while shopping. Thanks!

I don't see colour very well, so my trick is to hold it next to my face and see if I look ill compared to without the piece there. If it makes me look ill, it's not coming with me
@inspiredby6242 жыл бұрын
You could buy one of those fancy color palettes and bring it with you. Another option that helps sometimes is to wear one of your good colors while shopping. Hold the item you're considering to buy next to it and if the colors don't work together at all it's probably the "wrong" color.

Hi Justine! Thank you for those useful videos! Can you please explain in your next video in which case it is better to use brown as a main neutral color instead of black? Thank you!

I would totally wear that colour palette. However, I'm white cool skin undertone with black long hair, and I look great in red (deep cherry read), camel and lemon yellow too.

This was very interesting. I am a "cool Summer" but I can wear a cool version of yellow very well - altho not a butter yellow, eg - and I can wear a cool rose red - but not a scarlet, eg. I can wear blue-green very well, but a mint green doesn't flatter me at all. So I think it's possible to stretch the palette somewhat, depending on the individual. Thanks, Justine, I always enjoy your videos!

Lovely, informative, clear, and concise as usual. One thing I don’t understand is how someone can be cool toned, yet look better in red (on the pink spectrum, rather than vermillion) than green, if red is definitely warm, and green is definitely cool. That someone is me, so it’s not in theory. I definitely look better in red tones (pink, fuchsia, burgundy, classic, cherry red) than green ones, unless it’s a turquoise.
