In the sourcefile, PolyExtrude1 has no depth, but `TRANSFORM EXTRUDED FRONT` enabled at .9 on all axis. This scales the front down in world space, so I'm left with geometry that is not anything like the video. I don't know how this made it past QC check XD. In the future, with source files this expensive, it would be good to have a video where you go through _every_ node, with every setting, as a sanity check, OR, use the Note feature in Houdini to write out the rationale for every node -- This is the norm at my company when handing off files

That crystalline Entity on Star Trek has got nothing on this...

Amazing! Makes me wonder, would it be possible to view rendered crystals like this in VR with current tech with live lighting changes like shining a virtual flashlight through it? 🤔 would be dope
@arvidurs
@arvidurs 2 жыл бұрын
It’s though with rendered images like this as they are heavily raytraced and not in a real time environment. Unreal for eg would struggle a lot with shaders like this

@@arvidurs hmm, right, I see. Ok so, how about viewing this in 3D by rendering out a left eye and right eye perspective and running that through a headset? That should work right? The angle and lighting would just have to be fixed, but you could see this in true 3D. You could even post the result on KZbin with the two spinning videos next to each other for something like google cardboard to be used by anyone with a smartphone. I’d love to see that 🤩

in the first few seconds, some of the reflections pop in and out in an odd way, especially noticeable at .5X speed

nice catch! I did a time remapping in premiere to get it go slower. but it's just me being impatient on render times.

Any quick hints tips to convert this to Redshift render?
@arvidurs
@arvidurs 2 жыл бұрын
redshift has the standard surface now, so should should be able to do this 1 to 1. But redshift sucks rendering transmission depth with volumes proplery :D

can you do a tutorial about this in renderman?
@arvidurs
@arvidurs 2 жыл бұрын
I could, but technically it’s pretty much the same. Glass shader volume shader and drive the values with noises and user data

Very nice, how long was frame to render? The refraction doesn't look very crystaline though, IOR not high enough? It's more like hollow glass

Hey, just found you here. Amazing work!! I have a question, I am sure you are asked about this all the time. What is your system specs ?
@arvidurs
@arvidurs 2 жыл бұрын
I do get it about once a day :D But I still have to look up the exact specs every time. My work stations has two intel gold cpus totalling to 80 threads.

Any reason you picked nuke over fusion? Fusion is also node based and essentially free?
@arvidurs
@arvidurs 2 жыл бұрын
it's probably the same argument as with blender - working in the industry for over a decade, it's just not a standard, and I haven't touched it since it's not in my day to day
@ikbo

@@arvidurs want to get into nuke but the price was insane until they launched the indie version so will definitely have to take a look.
