Thank you so much for making these tutorials. They are the perfect bite-sized way to learn. PLEASE don't stop making Houdini tutorials. You are a great teacher. I would really love to see how you can make more complex clothing with pockets, collars, hoods, or parts of the clothes that have different stiffnesses and weights. There really isn't much info on the internet about how to make clothing in Houdini, so this was incredibly helpful for me.

Hey Ian! Thanks for the feedback, I'm fairly new to the drape system too so I'm curious how to add pockets too. I'll update when I get to it. And to the others reading this comment, Ian's got a bunch of useful CGI tricks on his channel, don't miss out, love the swirling rocks one!

This tutorial was so helpful! I was trying to make my cloth sim work in Marvelous Designer, but it just didn’t work the way I was expecting for my animation. Then you dropped this Houdini tutorial and it was a game changer. I pivoted the cloth sims to Houdini and I found the options much more flexible. Thank you!

Awesome, so happy that you found a solution! For complete beginners, in comparison with Houdini, MD is easier to pick up, more intuitive to design clothing patterns, and it comes with a bunch of templates, and fast to sim. That's why many people (including myself) love Marvelous Designer. I wish Houdini's toolset came with templates, and the workflow/UI of seam selection improves with the upcoming version(s)! And yes, I'm pretty sure if you're already familiar with Houdini, it makes sense to use it because there are practically limitless ways to control the simulation. Houdini is so powerful, it scares most people. 🤣

Hey man, I really appreciate you including the texturing process for cloth. Not enough creators include the full process and I'm really glad you did that. Your explanation for both the vellum and texturing process was really fast, simple to understand and got straight to the point! I've watched tons of texturing videos for cloth but the short segment you included helped me understand so much more compared to all the other videos I've watched

Hey Ronald, Thank you for this great Tutorial, Usually when in Production Cloth models are designed by Modelling department and clothing department uses that mesh to simulate but before with a cleanup and bringing in the single sided geo for simulation and after the simulation is approved it drives the final mesh. could also pls make a video on this process as well?

Thank you so much! Amazing tutorial! I made my own t-shirt with this and it works excellent except for one issue I'm running into that I can't figure out. When I stitch together the left and right side of the back and front pieces, the "seam" is visible down the middle when I simulate, as if it didn't weld them together to create one piece of cloth. They stitch together perfectly, it's only when I simulate inte the vellum solver it's visible. Any ideas to what might cause this?
@RonaldFong
@RonaldFong 8 ай бұрын
hi! Glad to hear it doesn't affect your simulation, and in that case, the Vellum Post Process node can take care of the seams with the "Apply Welds" checkbox :) I'm not at my machine now, but I recall that's roughly how it works.

This is really helpful. I’m steadily trying to think of ways to reduce clicks to make the process more seamless no pun intended. Could a solution be to make a python state where it essentially is creating the pairs for you automatically as you click 2 seams and press a modifier key or is that over kill?
@RonaldFong
@RonaldFong 8 ай бұрын
Not overkill at all! I wish I knew how to do all that. All the identifying attributes are there to build tools on top of, but it might not be SideFx's priority to compete with Marvellous Designer. So, for now, I think it's way easier to do patternmaking in Marvellous Designer. Not unless your tool comes along! You're a devgod after all ya? 😆

hmm what format is your file when you first put the character file node. I put fbx and my character does not start walking like yours does.,,,
@RonaldFong
@RonaldFong Жыл бұрын
Hi! you can try the fbx import nodes! they have some options in there to pick the animation data within the .fbx file!
@e__cortes__6087
@e__cortes__6087 Жыл бұрын
Hello good sir, why is my mixamo file not animating like yours when I use a 'file' node? I have to do the fbxCharacterImport route but its kinda laggy
@RonaldFong
@RonaldFong Жыл бұрын
Oh yes! If my memory serves me right, I made some adjustments to the capture such that blends from T-pose to the walk cycle. I cached that out, and brought it back in using a file node. So you can do the same! The fbx character import only imports the character, you might be able to switch to the various "clips" stored in the file, or you can fbx import another motion capture (even just the skeleton), and use another fbx character animate node to deform the initially imported character based on the second imported motion. You can then use KineFx tools to do some blending if you need to!

I used "file node" to import the same animated character as you, but there is no animation when I play it. Do you need to set something?
@RonaldFong
@RonaldFong Жыл бұрын
It's been a while, but I think I prepared a geometry sequence cache prior to recording the lesson, so it's likely a file node that points to that geometry sequence cache :)

its cool mate but still can feel that rubbery string look. is there way to remove that and have it more like cloth?
@RonaldFong
@RonaldFong 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! I used just one substep (accuracy) for this tutorial, which caused the geometry to stretch a little more than they should; simply increase the substeps between 2-5, and you'll notice that the solver will respect the stretch constraint quite a little more, and will prevent a rubbery bounce/jitter :)
