totally. It's not a bad look, but it seems closer to the 80" Ford models now. Something between the Mustang and the Escort of the era. BMWs are better with the straight and aggressive lines, not that the E92 or E60 are too soft :)))

I always enjoy watching Chip work and hearing his thought process. I'm not always a fan of the "slammed" look and giant wheels, but I realize that's an exagerated show-car cue that often gets softened on a real-life driving car. If you squint, doesn't this kind of look like BMW sent the design out to Mercedes? Thinking especially with the back rockers.

It's way too disproportionate. Like you said the back wheel is too close to the middle, the rear is too long , the front wheel is also further to the door compared with original. Rear window is too big and the door too short and the line of the rear windshield is in another angle compared with normal E30. I understand the bumpers might be in 90s style to be more modern but the main structure of the car is too far from original. I also do mine like that sometimes when i draw in a hurry but there is always 2nd and 3rd try

@@jdlm9 I am not saying he doesn't have any talent. What I am saying is that he has become a celebrity and highly overrated designer. The Chip Foose I have seen lately is a corporate sellout that is not creating anything new or innovative, just hashing out the same old-same old stuff he has been for years. I was impressed with his older work (perhaps when he had more passion for it). Now, his designs are repetitive and formulaic. Now he has sold his soul to pitch products he does not believe in and lying through his teeth about how amazing product X is. I have lost all respect for him because he has no integrity.

I admire Chip's abilities and creativity.......my only problem is that his designs resemble each other too much. I'd like to see Chip get "out of the zone" for a new look at where he is going with the next customization. For the first time in my life I don't agree with Foose.. this looks more like a E39 design.. the E30 is supposed to be boxy and aggressive in my opinion.. not soften bumpers like the E39. Looks like a fusion between an E30 and a E39.

Yep, agree, the boxiness of the E30 M3 makes it M3. Its more square than the ordinary E30s with the flares, spoilers and sideskirts. Its more agressive. E39 is nice too, but quite different Ercole Spada design actually. I know the E21 had some designconsultancy from Giugiaro and designed under Bracq, E30 was completely designed in house if im correct maybe als Paul Bracq?

You can tell he's trying to be like his dad and strive to be better each time we sit down at the table. Another great rendition from Chip. It’s worth pointing out that the original E30 design was with the much finer chrome European bumpers, it was only because of the strict US regs that manufacturers had to recreate the designs to provide the US “box bumpers” to satisfy the American market....also of interest is that Chip uses a cheap biro pen to flesh out his drawings, as they are of course permanent and the drawings are all clearly signed off and then sold...

He took me for a ride to Parkway Plaza to get some parts for my GMC van and that's when I fell in love with small displacement imports. The experience was mind blowing. He later sold the car for $12,000 and now we see them going for over $50k. It's insane. i'm glad to see he went for a "respectful" interpretation of the original design, especially for the wheel design, without trying to make the car look american and adding ugly or out of place stuff just to draw the viewer's attention. classy job

I'm amazed that I had to wait for this format since my childhood. I was always keeping my focus on the Chip's designs, the rest of the Overhaulin' was only like added value to me. Also the nice chat and stories while sketching complete it perfectly, I feel like i'm going to binge all episodes. Thank you someone from Hagerty who came up with this idea.

I went for a ride in a 86 M3 BMW, back in 94 with that boxy body kit on it, was shipped over from South Africa and took on the evo 2 lancers in nz. My mates dad owned it till we graduated high school in 97. It had gold chrome Simmons rims white exterior with a m3 blue red down the side. Kept up with the evos

@@kylestephens9593 Ummm, not really. But you have your right to your own opinion, even though most car enthusiasts would disagree with you. E30 BMW was offered from 1988-1991 only. Basic E30 came out earlier in 86. Cool car, neat design. As you say, it didn't need much. Remember the standard E30 came with 13" wheels, so the 15" on the M3 were +2. Todays larger wheels and tires were not made yet. I had a 1989 325is which was more suited to the street. I did the gold BBS wheels in 15" with Comp T/A tires. Pretty radical in the day.
