@wjmackenzie95510 жыл бұрын
David Henry Sprinkling dead bird blood on a leprosy victims does not cure the disease. Debunked bible stuff there.... actually, dousing bird blood on people, particularly one with open sores and wounds is a great way to spread other diseases or infections. No global flood, no ark. The moon is not a light source. Bats are not birds, they're mammals. The earth was not created before the sun. Likewise, the earth is not an immovable object, it's in constant orbit around the sun. While many languages have developed from earlier common languages, they did not all appear at once as per the tower of babel story. They've developed over many centuries, at different rates, and from many different earlier languages which were already present at the rough timeframe of the babel story. Unlike what Jacob would have you believe, you do not get striped goats by breading unstriped goats next to a streaked rod. God apparently lead the israelites through the land of the philistines centuries before the philistines actually inhabited the lands... Likewise, mention of the city of Dan longbefore the namesake of the city was even born... God was supposedly to curse anyone who tried to rebuild Jericho.... It's considered one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. Tyre was supposed to be wiped off the face of the earth forever. Still standing. Absolom's hair apparently weighed over 2 kilos given that a shekel weighed about 10 or 11 grams, and his haired weighed in at 200 shekels... 2 Samuel puts Israel's army at around 1.3 million... seems a little off for a small tribal army. Consider that the US's military stands at somewhere around 1.4 million active duty soldiers... Ostriches do not abandon their young, nor are they cruel. The parents actually take turns keeping the eggs warm, and care for the young for a month, after which they have matured enough to survive on their own. Snails do not melt. Herod supposedly killed all boy 2 years or younger in Jerusalem. You'd think such a massacre would have earned at least a footnote in the works of at least one contemporary historian. Nope.... "Thy faith has made thee whole" because hey, fuck medical science and doctors and stuff. Mustard seeds are not the smallest seeds, and do not grow into the greatest trees known. Jesus was a fuck poor gardener it seems.... When Jesus was crucified, there was apparently a huge earthquake, and a whole load of zombies running around the city.... funny how such an event doesnt' earn a footnote in any contemporary historical documentation like that child massacre... Jesus apparently healed deafness by sticking his fingers in a deaf guy's ear and spitting. This breathtaking medical technique has yet to been reproduced in two thousand years... and not even so much as a clue as how to sticking shit in ears and spitting could cure deafness in the first place.... Multiple new testament statements that paralysis and disease are caused by being 'sinful'. That's right... breaking your back and becoming paralysed is sin.... Jeebus can cure that though Another NT blunder.... the red moon is not a bloody sign of the apocalypse. it happens during eclipses, no armagedon required. So.... You want more examples, or you had enough yet?
@jean-marccloutier430910 жыл бұрын
David Henry You want more examples, or you had enough yet? A polite person would answer.
@yhenry7710 жыл бұрын
Jean-Marc Cloutier OK, thanks for reminding me... 1) does not cure the disease. It did back then, it may NOT now; it's called a step of faith. 2) No global flood, no ark? Isn't strange that most ancient cultures have some account of the flood. How can that be? This is before the internet, phones, planes, ocean ships, mail, television etc. www.talkorigins.org/faqs/flood-myths.html 3) moon is not a light source? The bible says "lesser light to govern the night" Genesis 1:16 Common sense says the moon reflects light and therefore a LIGHT source. 4) Moses tells us about the birds and then he lists them out. The bat is included in this list. So? The word "mammal" is modern, from the scientific name Mammalia coined by Carl Linnaeus in 1758, derived from the Latin mamma ("teat, pap"). 5) earth was not created before the sun? "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." - Genesis 1:1 6) languages developed over many centuries? There is no conclusive proof where languages come from, in-fact it's more of a mystery for linguist or scientists. 7) see # 1 8) God cursed those rebuilt the city. That's true, about five hundred and thirty years later (ca. 850 B.C.), during the reign of King Ahab, a man named Hiel3 of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. Just as God had said, when he laid the foundation, he lost his firstborn son (Abiram); and when he set up the gates, he lost his youngest son (Segub) (1 Kgs. 16:34). 9) The bible says "I will make you a bare rock; you will be a place for the spreading of nets. You will be built no more, for I the LORD have spoken," declares the Lord GOD." - Ezekiel 26:14 Noticed it says YOU will be built no more and not anyone else. 10) weighed in at 200 shekels? OK, were you there? 11) see #9 12) Ostriches - Fewer than 10% of nests survive the 9 week period of laying and incubation, and of the surviving chicks, only 15% of those survive to 1 year of age. - Wikipedia 2014 13) Bible says "Let them be as a snail which melts away as it goes along," LOL... huh? it's called slime. 14) Doesn't prove anything.... 15) Thy faith has made thee whole" it refers to "body, soul and mind:. 16) The bible says "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed" notice is says LIKE, it's called analogy. 17) All four gospels and Tacitus in Annals (XV,44) agree that the crucifixion occurred when Pontius Pilate was procurator of Judea from 26-36 AD. Geologist Jefferson Williams says varves, which are annual layers of deposition in the sediments, reveal that at least two major earthquakes affected the core: a widespread earthquake in 31 B.C. and an early first century seismic event that happened sometime between 26 A.D. and 36 A.D. 18) Hint: He's the Son of God 19) Not always: "His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life." - John 9:2-3 20) red moon is not a sign? It's called *four blood moons*. We just had two and another two is due in 2015. The first comes April 15, 2014, the second day of Passover. The second will come on October 8, 2014, during the Jewish Feast of the Tabernacles. The third will come on April 5, 2015, during next year's Passover celebration, and the fourth will arrive on September 28, 2015, another Feast of the Tabernacles, also known as Sukkot. It's not the End of Days, but watch the middle east and Israel over the next year.

When I was in high school in the 1950's Creationism and it's bastard cousin, Intelligent Design was un-heard of. Most people believed in god, but we also were only taught science and evolution in school, never religion. Our country has gone backwards with the religious right having so much influence on government! The only bright spot is that a large number of educated, intelligent young people are leaving religion behind every day. I hope within 10-15 years religion will be put on the back burner and only relevant in churches and private schools, never in government, education or public life in any form. Despite what the right-wing religious believe, this country was founded as a secular nation needs to return to that.

It's hard to illustrate the concept well without pictures. . . But no one's claiming a whole new species just pops out of another one. It's very gradual.

What a lot of people don't understand, and Christians who accept evolution and an old Earth are guilty of as well, is that evolution DOES shoot Christianity in the foot. It doesn't really have a big effect on other religions, since evolution doesn't do a thing to Muslim or Jewish theology. But for Christian theology to work a literal Genesis HAS TO HAVE HAPPENED. Without a Garden, a magical tree, an Adam and Eve, a talking serpent and a FALL for mankind then there is no point in a messiah who comes to die to offer the gift of atonement for that Original Sin. So young earth creationists, sadly, seem to be the only ones who really understand their theology. Why moderate or liberal Christians don't get it is beyond me.

As for the Hot molten Mass: that is immposible because of the Radio Polonium Halos that they find buried deep. Robert V. Gentry studied these halos which appeared to have arisen from Po-218 rather than U-238 and concluded that solid rock must have been created with these polonium inclusions, which decayed with a half-life of 3 minutes. They could not have been formed from molten rock which took many millennia to cool (the standard theory) because polonium decays in a few minutes.

I think the biggest confusion is in people misunderstanding what science does, and how it gets its knowledge. Those who claim that theories are "beliefs" can't be proven, or that certain testings can't be confirmed are not looking at all the test and reasoning they have done. There are certain tests that when used together to find an answer, the correlation of the results becomes compelling proof. To put it in a simple example, (continued in next post)

The beauty of science is that it is unfixed, and all the information it has produced are derived from nature itself. Science isn't out to prove religion wrong. In fact, if there was compelling evidence that any of the religious beliefs are true, science would completely support it. Since, so far, it has met with none, it cannot support religion. Religion is best served as reflections of human nature, society, and philosophy. It should not breech over to become a basis for proving nature.

Note that the word insecurity is used as a broad general term, covering all aspects of life that the ancient Israelites did not understand, and the word perhaps indicates I don't have strong tangible evidence. Nobody has, the roots of Abrahamic monotheism are shrouded in the fog of ancient history. For a more thorough discussion of this I recommend the books by British author (and former nun) Karen Armstrong, especially her bestseller 'A History of God'.

@party489 I think Zyonfire is confused with artificial petrification, and making coal in the laboratory. @Zyonfire Just because it is possible to replicate it in the lab, doesn't mean it's possible for it to happen naturally on this Earth. The reason I say "this Earth" is that it may be able to occur on other planets, or other instances of cosmic reactions, but in our Earth today, it does not happen naturally. Labs can create conditions that are unnatural (unnatural on our Earth).
