With Plini being such a nuanced song writer, having musicians around him that can write to match is so awesome! You're an incredible drummer and musician Chris! Definitely appreciate this insight!

What a monster dude. Guys like him Joey Bacca (The Contortionist) and Adam Janzi (Vola) should be mentioned with the Halperns and Gartska's of the world. They are such technical freaks but thier groove and feel is out of this world too

I saw them play before Periphery in November and was totally blown away. They opened with Glass Bead Game and i was an instant fan (still my favorite song by them) These guys are unbelievable, they make great music, and the show was SUCH a good time. I've been listening to plini ever since (even last night) Chris is one of the most underrated drummers too and his playing goes so perfectly with the music.

LOVE this!! Chris' beat in the middle of "I'll Tell You Someday" with the 5/16 hats ostinato over the top of the back beat took me MONTHS to learn but it's one of the most fun and most creative beats I've heard, not to mention when the ghost notes get added!

One of the things I love about Chris's work and Plini's albums is that you can listen to it as a drum record as much as a guitar record or even a bass record. Or just a record. As a lapsed drummer, I gotta say I'm always following Chris' drums predmoninantly when I listen to Plini (which I do a lot). Plini's music leaves so much space for drumming expression and nuance and Chris fills the space wonderfully.

30:27 - 30:51 Every time I listen to this part I get the feeling of dancing down a stairs which I know is weird to say but it just gives me that feeling. Always nice to see Chris live, seen him in Montréal this past May playing with Plini and it was an amazing show. The other thing that I really like about Plini and Chris' playing that he touched upon here is that they don't go overboard with the complexity of the music. A lot of other technical musicians do awe-inspiring things in their songs but they don't sound good.

Cool the double bass defo makes it sound more progressive. Im sure he thought about useing double bass vs not. The accents would of ended up on the snare and or toms otherwise. The double kick just pins it to a prog thing for me personally tho it is progressive music it is wonderful music actually and i feel all the better for watching this. Thank you🎉

Love Chris's drumming and good advices, but the drumsound wasn't really balanced for this type of music in my opinion(a matter of taste, I know). Check out the drumsound on this liverecording with Plini & Kiko Loureiro, and Bruno Valverde(Angra) on drums. So much more power and articulations in the drumsound. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJPYomxuj6urqtEsi=UBSgrG9YYogdzGHf

@MeshuggahFan-iy6tb 6 ай бұрын
Damn really? I thought the snare sounds like a gunshot! I can agree with the Tom sound though, I’m not a coated head fan, but What don’t you like about the mix?
@bishopoftroy
@bishopoftroy 6 ай бұрын
@@MeshuggahFan-iy6tb I think the snare doesn`t really react well to that low tuning. And it`s way too loud in the mix. Plus the kick is too plasticky but i get it, it`s a drum show so they maybe have to get the drums in front a bit. Fair enough, maybe my comment was a bit too harsh. But the toms i think sounded good, that`s just my preference, the coating muffles the attack a little.
@oceanwoe
@oceanwoe 6 ай бұрын
@bishopoftroy I agree on the plastic bass drum. That didn't sound very balanced with the rest of the setup, and his style of playing. The snare I think sounds killer, but I think I get what you mean. I think it's the controlled sound drumhead. Never been a fan of those. They have endurance, yes, but I find them really hard to lay into(for my playingstyle anyway). Never understood why so many drummers use them. Maybe the sound engineers find them good to work with(besides their durability)🤔
