Maya, Thanks for sharing your heart, many of us, for a season have put our passions down, in pursuit for long-term goals. There is an old sailing axiom, "The middle makes the man (or woman)" The concept is that leaving on an ocean crossing, is a beginning, then once that joy wears off, you are surrounded by the middle, the endless horizons, the lack of a feeling of progress, the days becalmed, then suddenly, the end. Most of the crossing is "the Middle" The middle is the part that makes a sailor, that changes us, that forced us to dig deeper. Your writing and music will be richer as a result of your current "middle" experience.

As an aspiring writer and sailor that's currently landlocked while I'm searching for my next boat, I just wanted to say that while it may not feel that way, you're still creating really great art. Your filmmaking and narration are also a product of this process, and I can say that they're meaningful to at least one person. Hang in there, and don't forget to live in the present when you can - you're doing something amazing.

Hopefully you'll be looking back on this time as extreme character building and be very proud of your determination to persevere so that you and Aladino can realize the life that you both want. You've done things that you never thought you could and endured work that you really don't have an inclination to do. Well done, Maya!

You are deep into the fiddly stuff now. So much time can disappear into a cleat or a tiny little floor piece (that you will never see again!) Yours look great. Soon you will be on the water again and all this will fade away. At least that is what they tell me. Love the stove!

Some weeks ago I commented on letting the boat builder explain the boat building. I saw your discontent when the camera was on you while the two of you were looking out over the bridge on your chart table trip. I bet you did not now that I sent multiple years in Port Angeles before my marriage. You are an extraordinary musician and editor of film. Please take a day every week to volunteer working with kids and share with them your gifts. Or at a homeless shelter. I know P.T. well and I can help you find a place if necessary to share yourself! Remember keep that attitude of gratitude and also you could be building a 3 bedroom 2 bath house with a garage. You are building an adventure with sails that very few will ever get to experience. My first date with my wife included a sunset sailing on a 32' boat into our harbor with the sails wing on wing and a full moon that night. Also our first kiss! I see things lately during the build that shows that the old adage, the eyes are windows to the soul. Time to get happy! Maybe you could housesit an Inspector (the cat) like Matt and his wife! Good luck. You are a good egg! Peace Clifford

Maya, I understand your frustration, I too have done more than enough sanding and painting in my life. That said, watching Aladino work is a joy because of his high level of skill and his attention to detail. I've learned a lot watching this channel. I also love watching the boat come back to life, and more than that, having it be better than it was when it was originally built. This will be an extremely safe and trustworthy vessel when she's complete. That's the reason I watch the channel. When you guys were sailing your old boat over the summer I watched occasionally, but I've watched every edition of the retrofit episodes and eagerly look forward to the next installment.

I do not know if you have already written a book, but as I have a dozen under me I can see exact parallels to the labor of writing a long novel and essentially building a boat from scratch. There are always soul seering stretches where a thousand screw heads must be turned, tedium endured and inabilities presenting when expertise is wanted. As Faulkner points out well, to prevail we must endure. As for suspending our familiar joys which beg at us like a puppy whining for attention, I found practicing in-the-moment Zen-like concentration on each screw wanting turning regardless of the degree of expertise I have to turn any. ( I too am slogging over dreary boat projects while three novels await my return. Making myself turn away from them until project is done an boat is afloat.) Meantime, here is a commiserating hug for a pretty impressive woman enduring. ❤

Take heart from the wise, uplifting comments you have received here. Other KZbinr boat-builders and refitters have also experienced dull times along their journey, and you are brave to share them. My own thoughts, (so late in life) on this theme (managing the differing skills and passions in a partnership) might be to say: happiness is not always measured by how much time we each get doing our own thing. You both have a common goal and you each bring your own talents and passions to the process. Interestingly, changes occur. Our characters develop. It matters less that we didn't fulfill our original wish list. Look at how you've both grown: Aladino has become more confident and gregarious; Maia has become more practical and can stay focussed on mundane tasks. Those are some of the priceless gifts you have given to each other. Thank you for sharing your story with us.

We all hit walls, intellectual, mental, emothional and literal! Yet, it is the way in which those hard times are handled, dealt with or managed that is important! I do miss your playing! Yet what is coming into being is so very epic! I laugh, cry and cheer, and that is for the hard work and quality of the production! Also most of us will never have the chance to come close to such a manifestation. The shaping of your dreams together takes both your talents and skills! Thank you two for all this sharing of your adventure, labor and we cheer you guys on! You do inspire guys!!!

I totally get it Maya. That kind of grunt work really takes its toll on a person’s mind and body. And it is so good that you are aware of the pain you are currently putting yourself through. Make sure give yourself pampering and appreciation each week if not each day. It looks also like the weather might also be contributing to some Seasonal Depression as well. So take care of yourself. A long bath or a just a manicure with hand & forearm massage will make you feel new again. Put them on your To Do List before this pain turns into resentment towards your partner. Like you said, you are both different and you need to respond to your own feelings which will then give both of you a break. 😊

Hi. Fun to observe, that this destribution of tasks between the couples are almost equal at the different boat building/refit projects, I am following. The joy of construction and execution is always a mail thing, while this very seldom appeals to femails, unless the project is purely by woman/wemans. At the same time, it’s equal interesting to observe, that the KZbin video editing appeals more to the female partner and somehow makes the task destribution and joy of the work more equal. Unless, of course this task is considered aligned with fearing and painting 😊! I built a catamaran in the seventies together with my father, sailing with wife, children and parents for 22 years. After that the boat needed serius rebuilding and I have done that the last 20 years (and not been sailing!)! The joy (or what you may call it) of doing this with all kind of tasks (lengthening, diesel motor installation, new rigging and much more) is still appealing to me (not the wife 😉). The boat might be in the water this year, time will show. Good luck with your project!

Maya, I appreciate your candor and feel your frustration as you contemplate yet another grunty job like sanding and prepping those overhead panels. The good news is that Aladino's expert work means that you will have a better-than-new boat to begin your world voyaging in - it will be dry, sound, seaworthy and suited to your tastes and lifestyle. And you will able to sleep through a storm when the weather kicks up, knowing you have a strong and superbly built boat. And another benefit of having done the rebuild (this is more than a refit!), is that you will both be on intimate terms with it when anything needs fixing or tweaking. Your joy and peace of mind will return when you launch and set sail, though of course there will be the inevitible business of sorting the rig and controls. But this comes with the territory of sailing and cruising, and you already have the requisite experience, skillsets and attitude!

I am a 76 year old subscriber who can appreciate the frustrations of having goals take years to achieve by hours of work and delays to accomplish them. The work you two are doing seems well worth it. Aladino and Maya are doing is resulting in a stronger, safer vessel with an interior design that best suits them. I think you will appreciate your finished product even more than a couple who goes out and buys a newer boat that costs much more, sails it and finds many of the design elements do not suit them. I am looking forward to seeing how you design the cockpit and helm area to make it a weather tolerant place to sit or stand and steer the boat. Best Wishes. I truly enjoy your videos even more since you two are sharing the workload more. Best wishes in your work toward the splash down date while you focus on the daily steps.

So much to do and so little time to do it in…. That’s the story of hundreds of thousands of individuals around the world so your in good company with that feeling. While you may not know how to do the “boat building” tasks as well as you wished you could, in time you will learn more than you realize just by being around a professional like Aladino is. I’ve watched hundreds of hours of videos of people building lots of things and even though it doesn’t seem like it, you two are getting things done and done right the first time. I’ve watched so many individuals work on their projects and rush through various tasks only to have to tear it out and redo it because it wasn’t done right the first time. Do what you can and do it the best you can with what you know and don’t worry about what you don’t know. Every task completed by you is one that is done for your future home-on-the-water.

Looking at where you have got to - its obvious you are over the hump - things are coming back together and you can enjoy the obvious progress. Celebrate all the completions as victories. You'll be looking back on it soon and will have the satisfaction of knowing it was done well as you enjoy using it!

I’m completely with you Maya, your love for your channel and all it was slowly slipped away many months ago. That made me so sad, not only to see you worn down but to just see the same old same old over and over. The joy for me was gone too. I dip back in here and there and watch the odd vlog because when you do go back to how things were I’ll be here, full time. To see your smile to witness your glow for the whole package. It’s clear that Aledeno is very happy pottering along and doing a totally splendid job, but you, it’s sad, a bit like a discarded toy. I don’t know? I miss your music too and seeing your passion for it I guess. Anyway, my musings. Take care.

Dear Maya, I wish you all the best in overcoming this difficult time. I have been in similar situations. It is just a saying, but deep inside is the truth: "If going gets tough only the tough get going." Dear Aladino, I like to see how perfect your work looks. Sometimes maybe a 90% solution might also work? I wish you both all the best! I cross my fingers that you come along with this difficult "Kap Hoorn" passage.

Thank you, Maya, for the pure honesty. Your comments and ability to share your feelings, struggles and desires are the gift of your beautiful soul. That you think that deeply, acknowledging the differences in your and Aladino’s talents/gifts, and that you can be free to express your challenges while still staying engaged in the rebuild, gives me great confidence that you both will be blessed with an incredible life journey ahead. It also helps me pray for you both. Thanks for being!

And to add to what I said below, may I echo the thoughts of Adam Etzion below, that this series of KZbin videos is itself a creation that has brought a great deal of education, entertainment and even a vicarious sense of accomplishment to those of us who follow your channel. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again!

Dear Maya, Bon courage. You express yourself very well and I hear your position very clearly. Have faith that "this too shall pass". Your hard work and the compromise you are making right now will pay off. This is the yin and the yang of life. Your needs and passions will be fed again! Hope you can feel just a bit of encouragement with good intentions.🤗

While you may not enjoy the boat building, your role documenting the build and sharing it with your viewers should make you very proud, if not fully fulfilled. As a couple you are amazing👍

Love knees, details for rods, nice, creative license 😍 You want individuality, make it your own. Its a long time Maya, its physical, mental & emotional job you're doing. Your still round the half way stage I feel. I'm going through similar with my horse which may sound weird but its true. I've to do grit, repeat & go back to things. I've feel the same after 5 yrs, I just relate to your feelings & desires over all. Your honesty just makes you relatable & nice to watch. Thankyou for sharing

Maya, it may be difficult to grasp when worn, wanting time for yourself, exasperated from what seems like an extended timeline. What you don’t see is what we all have admired. Your technical expertise in photography, filming and editing are extraordinary. Your writing and music is so very introspective and soothing for the soul. The work you do to assist Aladino is a necessity and an opportunity to immerse yourself into the very being of Magic Carpet. When all is finished, you will appreciate the journey and beautiful home you can enjoy every moment, every sail, and the moonlight you will shine under. It will be then, when you feel the pride to have been part of such a rewarding journey. In turn, your technical expertise will exude the gratification you will have realized, building upon your already extraordinary talents.

Do NOT think you are doing unimportant jobs such as the stripping, sanding, fairing, and finishing. Without the good foundation you are providing the end result will suffer. It might not be the most fun job, but sanding is a very important part of any project. Keep up the good work.

Take heart Maya. We are all endowed with special gifts. Yours is clearly narration, video and music, from which we have all been blessed . Aladino will enjoy your playing for hours upon hours while travelling the high seas. He is able to create a sound boat and you are able to make beautiful sounds. Seems like a good partnership to me!! Fair winds and patience is the key to a happy cruising life.

I can understand why you made the commitment to this boat. Watching Magic Carpet sail the North Sea revealed your need for a craft to take you safely across oceans no matter the weather. So you took a leap of faith and once again earned the admiration of many of us out here watching. I love every thing you do to create these videos. I notice that your partner (like mine) will think up outlandish things to say and do just to make you laugh. Sometimes people with his drive for perfection don’t have that gift. Thank you for sharing your story.

We all go through struggles in our lives… this is normal… your a strong willed woman and you will look back someday and realize that these things happen to make you who you are… recognizing what you are experiencing and sharing it, and putting it into words and reflecting on what you have said will give you the courage Not to give up… Best Wishes…. My stove broke loose just like that last year. Luckily just on one side so it didn't go flying but the seas were rough and I was needed at the helm so it was a bit scary until I could fix it in place with some rope and then later repair it. Always remember to turn the gas off when not using the stove so that a falling stove doesn't also mean a gas leak inside the cabin.

Maya, you have definitely stepped outside your comfort zone. Good on ya for taking on that challenge! Just remember everything you are going to learn now will pay off in the end. Not many would have taken on this challenge and hung in their to finish it. Even though this not the type of thing you love to do it will make you more complete of a preson in the long run. Life, Love, Learning is what makes the world a better place.

We installed the exact stove on our boat and it was great. The door stowing under the oven helps to keep the balance level while the door is open, excellent fiddles too. Great choice.
