I've had this mixer for 8 years stopped djing for the last 6 years but just now learning what I can do with after getting back into djing shows again. This was a great demonstration of how to use this. I never used to even touch the remix deck this makes me wanna have fun with it.

Another way I use the remix decks live. I do 1 shot vocal stabs I chop out of tracks and accapellas and vocal loops. that way I can do remixes and mashups of tracks live on the fly and set sounds different every time. I have a lot of fun with that. Especially bringing old classics back like renegade master and pump up the jam etc.

I just experimented with that today. Accapella of the vocal of my next song with filtered delay so you didn’t actually hear the words but more of the vibe of the melody, as I got closer to the transition, let up on the filter so the words started coming through. Loved it. Gonna try more of it.

Great video again Ian and DJTT team! This demonstration helped get my inspiration flowing and I think I have dreamed up a few tangent ideas that you seemingly overlooked (maybe you decided they weren't worth mentioning). Including, but not limited to: 1 - a grid of one shot synth samples (gotta make sure you have ones premade for the correct Key) for soloing on the fly (A "Mad Zach Sound Pack Lite" if you will) 2 - acapella loops of recognizable choruses or repetetive house vox loops to augment the song or really help glue together a transition 3 - dropping in an acapella to usher out one song into a new song (on the fly mashups in general) 4 - use a loop of another song to acheive the same effect^^^ 4.5 - (Continuing from the idea above) Creating a new build up to the drop for the next song. I imagine the heavily filtered and oh-so recognizable intro from Daft Punk's "One More Time". 5 - personalized, yet playable, DJ intro. A sweep, a couple vox samples, a couple other wierd sounds and another outro sweep to play as soon as the song starts. 5.5 - a similar breakdown for ending a set or transitioning between different genres/tempos. I will make a video in the next couple days to demonstrate what I am thinking of :) Awesome post again! Please keep'em coming!!

@George- to record loops or the full song to the remix deck first play the song on deck A or B which u wanna extract the loop, loop it 4, 8, 16 or 32 as you wish, then press shift on your remix deck and capture, then select the deck from where the loop or song will come from (CA or CB / DA or DB) C and D are the remix decks in where you wanna record the loops. thus select which pad you wanna drop your loop or full song.

I got mine today :0) Excitement. I will start setting up my loops. I can already see doing pretty cool stuff with this grown-up toy. Started mixing in 1990 (never cared for CDJ's btw, to me they're a bastard transitional phase from vinyl to truly digital, an adaptation that lasted way too long). I remember when Traktor came out, being told that "digital" would never catch on.. I was like "WTF" of course it will ;0)

Thanks for the vid!! What is unique about the midi controller fighter twister thing? Is it the fact that each button also has the rotary aspect so you can change the volume of each part? Or is there something I'm missing?
@Tw1x500010 жыл бұрын
the unique thing to the midi fighter twister is, that it has its own step sequenzer built in, which syncs up to traktor, that means you can sequenze a whole drumkit without even touching any button (once the rythm plays). additionally you got it right, that you can change the trigger volume of each step and sound. furthermore you can hold these 2 middle buttons right and left on the sides to get up to 4 pages of 16 pressable encoders, so there you can map own stuff like fx and let the sequenzer play while using these pages! so you got 2 basic ideas in one little controller, for me it's just an awesome controller besides my 2 channel jogwheel-controller (reloop beatmix) I recommend it without any drawbacks!

DJ TechTools I can see this working with deep house and tech house and any other minimalistic house. But what about tracks that are already full? such as electro?
@Dzsonib10 жыл бұрын
Then you can use loops of the tracks and layer, and specially use it to make new tracks on the fly. Whatch Roger Sanchez layering with CDJs

@palasako873210 жыл бұрын
Robert Garvan Snyder I play what i like. Not what's popular.
@FiSHY4D10 жыл бұрын
i play electro as well and what i love to do is find the tracks that have no vocals or any vocal builds, or even a simple build that seems to be lacking and add my own sounds, find some cool vocal track, chop it up and get a good 4 beat vocal and loop it (everybody everybody everybody everybody every every every every everybody make it bounce [for example]. Another thing that i love doing is adding a kick build or snare build, most tracks have them but if you have any rhythm or drumming experience then you could pull of a kick or snare roll. Your possibilities are endless if you think about what your options are. A little secret i'll give you is instead of loading an acapella onto a deck and play it along side your other track, do what Ian said and move it to the remix deck, load it there and play it from there, chop it up by the section and you can play what ever part of a songs vocals wherever you want, great for mashups. If you play any hip hop or trap and know that producers put in snaps claps and vocals like "hey - hey - hey -hey", add those samples to the remix decks and taadaa!

If you create your own stems, why wouldn’t you use remix deck, you would be creating all original music, I don’t care about remixing “hit tracks” I care about originals and so should you! Out there in the either! Great video! And don’t limit yourself to thinking you have to use a stem for drums, a stem for bass, a stem for sample, a stem for synth, infinite possibilities
@RockapeandRolla9 жыл бұрын
Can we see some examples with different genre's Ean? Not just with this video, but a lot of DJ Techtools videos seem to centre about fairly minimal techno type stuff. We understand that your sound has progressed since your earlier videos, but it would be good to see some other music making an appearance, even from the other guys of the Techtools crew.

@randomclyne993810 жыл бұрын

@Tw1x500010 жыл бұрын
Randon Clyne but beatport is really expensive if you look on tracks (djshop.de has it a lot cheaper...) and i can imagine that loopmasters or something like that has also good stuff for remix decks, maybe a bit cheaper... actually idk, but beatport is expensive at least with tracks.
@FiSHY4D10 жыл бұрын
there are sites that have remix decks made professionally, which isnt very difficult to do but theres also sights like loopmasters that often has free ones, im pretty sure the traktor forums has an entire section dedicated to user made remix sets. But I feel the best way to get drum sounds into remix sets is to get a DAW like ableton and make your own remix sets, that way you have the ability to adjust anything you dont particularly like about a downloaded remix deck.

Im not an S8 hater but I wouldn't choose this hardware if I had only 1 option. Would be fun to have the S8 at home or some private party and It would take some time to learn it also. Most probably in a club you will end up playing on Cdj's. But definitely has alot of options and features like never before and it's worth a try. I would recommend this if you got some extra cash... I rather stick to the jogwheel and the classic pitch fader.

Nice Content about the S8. Maybe you could make a Video about the S8 in other Genres than House. What are the Pros there?
@skttls10 жыл бұрын
I see what you are saying, not everyone DJ's tech house and techno. And correct me if I am misinterperating your question, but the pros of demonstrating with house tracks on the minimal side of the spectrum allow for the viewer to hear and differentiate the application of the software, samples, effects, and techniques better than say, Dubstep or Big Room. But I agree that a proliferation of the genres used in the demonstrations in general would be useful and appreciated. Maybe even help DJTT appeal to an even larger audience. Good insight :)
@NicolasBergmann10 жыл бұрын
***** Thats the point bro. I am a cross genre DJ and i need something that suits every genre. It would be very interesting to see some Turntables plugged into that thing or the standalone mixer section with cdj's and turntables :)
@skttls10 жыл бұрын
I don't see why that couldn't be the subject of another DJTT video- they have plenty of gear. *cough* IAN *cough* ;) It sounds like you are a multi-format DJ as well? I think a hybrid turntable set up with the S8 could open a lot of doors to new creative possibilities- especially with the additions of remix decks on the controller. Side note: OMG a nice person with constructive comments on KZbin?!?!?! :D

i feel the reason he used house to demonstrate this is because of houses simplicity and structure. You can loop a 4/4 anything and get it to sound good with house, so why not experiment with a genre that is simple to explain vs. a track with sounds on off beats, that requires song knowledge and understanding/practice, which is more personal. But i totally understand your question, which i believe he should have touched on and said something like what i just explained to avoid these kinds of questions.

Still don't have pass on S8. Still on S4 with two F1. I thing it's way more flexible than an S8. Can u give us your feedback about it ? I mean, u are using it. on the S8, u can only have access to 4 sample at a time. So for life performance, it's quite complex to remix live, using a lot of sample. Till the time, it's a beat, a snare, a drum.. finger in the noise. but when it's loops, beats, accapellas, break downs, effect, ambiance, and when u have to control all of it it's becoming complex with the S8.. I think

Hii Ean, I've been looking around for a basic drum kit remix set like your using in this demonstration, and can't seem to find one (looked in soundcloud, beatport, NI). any ideas? p.s thanks for sharing. your knowledge has help me immensely.
@overlordghs10819 жыл бұрын
+cwzimo If you want, you can create your own drum kit (as well as MANY other sounds for use with the sample or remix decks) using something like FL Studio. This lets you create custom kits (always nice to tell people you actually created the drums you're using) and you can be sure there's no copyright or restriction behind the kit you are using (most DJs don't know and download some free kit but don't realize they can actually be sued if they are making money off of the free samples). If you want high quality loops you can always purchase some from loopmasters and I don't think those have any strings attached. I suggest becoming familiar with a program like FL studio and exporting your own loops. It is very simple and satisfying in the end. I think all DJs should be familiar with programs like mashup, audacity, and fl studio as well as their DJing sofware.

I know this is an old question, but in case anyone is wondering: the capture button on an F1 records the loops. While holding Capture, turn the encoder to select the deck to record from. When released, you can use the encoder to select capture duration. Then press one of the pads to set that section to the button. To load a full song into a spot, enter browse mode, and press the button you want to assign it to when the song is highlighted

@RfloX878 жыл бұрын
José Lopo de Carvalho I don't know your mixing style, but an S2 has has two channels. An S4 or S8 or S5 lets you have 4 channels to mix with. Just a heads up. or you can get An X1 (I think it is) to mix 2 more channels and an F1 for your remix decks and stems.
@joselopodecarvalho61778 жыл бұрын
Royal Smith well, i use it on a recreational way and the F1 would be exactly for stems and remix decks! My s2 does the job perfectly as far as effects go, channels, etc... but i definitely want to explore more the remix sets and actually saw the F1 also serves as a stems display so that got me excited about it! Quick question i'm sure you'll be able to answer and its probably a bit of a n00b one but what the hell... using the pannels i can expand the F1 to 16 slots but can i have 2 sounds from the same line but different pannels playing at the same time? Thank you!
@RfloX878 жыл бұрын
I can't really understand your question man but, You can have a total of 64l different samples loaded into a remix deck if you load/ create your own remix set. You cannot play each row vertically ( going up or down) at the same time, but you can play 4 samples at the same time horizontally (going across). Also,you can find custom mappings that will let you use the F1 as a designated FX controller which is pretty dope. If you only have an S2, I'd look at getting an X1 then an F1 or vice versa to practice with. Peace!
