What a cool accent! Really enjoyed watching this.. I'm a Cubase user for 20 years but I keep hearing great things about BitWig just being a great program for ideas generation. I'm just browsing videos trying to decide whether it's worth learning a new DAW just for some creative inspirations.

I'm in love with Note Repeats. It's really good for people that are making riddim like myself.

Great video! I use all of these in my generative jam patches. I can 100% state they are just fantastic fun. One cool thing to do is hook up a arp-keyfilter combos to different instruments, then assign midi controller knobs to each arp segment's gate and note pitch. So while running a set I can "dial in" rythms and melodies. You can also put a harmoniser before the keyfilter and have that fed from an external keyboard or sequencer (eg, an NDLR drone). Plus Euclidean drum machines are the bomb! Again, assigning a midi controller (e.g. cheap Akai midMix) to the various note repeat settings lets you 'dial in' drum patterns (rises, lows) in jam sessions. Basically, you get a superbly flexible drum machine/bassline generator for live performance. One more idea for you. I sometimes use Reason's players - beatmap, bassline generator, etc - to drive the Bitwig drum machine and Bass synths. Again, I assign midi controller knobs to the play settings so I can dial in performances. Reason's players produce very interesting sequences that go beyond what you get from arps or Euclidian note repeats. In my main "jam" bitwig template, I have a bitwig drum machine hooked to Reason beatmap (preset to be controlled by an akai midiMix) and, a bass hooked up to a bitwig arp (controlled by 8 knobs on my faderfox pc 12).and finally another bass hooked up to Reason's bassline generator (controlled by another 8 knobs on the fader fox). It is a very effective template to get you up an running fast.

Bitwig is great for experimenting. But when it’s time to come to more controlled production it’s lacking sadly. Of cause you can modulate and this and that. But I hope one day they combine device driven approach with also more hands on adjust by hand philosophy. Wouldn’t it be cool if you could create a clip and while editing device it would show you notes in piano roll. And for example you change the note by had bitwig would ask you what you want to do. Cut the clip and let clip ignore devices or smartly ebbed this note via modulation into existing device, for example. That would be next the most innovative step daw ever made. But no. Here is 909 and 808…. Sad…
