I believe DCU already started when James Gunn first came to DC which is The Suicide Squad. At this point, they should've just retcon The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker Season 1 as part of DCU all along. We never seen Justice League's face anyway with exception of Aquaman and Flash or just edit out the whole JL cameo in the show. The DCU started really confusing for general audience who didn't know the difference between DCEU and DCU. I would keep The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker Season 1 & Blue Beetle as part of DCU The cast for Blue Beetle reportedly still remain in the DCU, so why not just keep the movie that already feel seperated from DCEU as part of DCU continuity

Technically The Suicide Squad was the start of the DCU based on Gunn stating what's cannon.

Here's my thinking; The Suicide Squad is loosely-canon, but not completely (due to Bloodsport shooting Superman with a kryptoniye bullet), The Flash reseting the universe, Blue Beetle, and Peacemaker S1, minus the Justice League at the end of S1.

The DCU starting with Creature Commandos is a new continuity, and only specific past events that get mentioned moving forward will be canon. Two universes can have similar past events... just because some past events in the DCU similarly happened in the dceu's The Suicide Squad doesn't make that movie itself canon. If the complainers were actually familiar with comic books, they'd understand this simple concept of retconned continuity more easily. It's not hard to grasp.
