Gotta love ‘likes to fight’ guy. 👎 Life skill, bucket list item, learn how to backpack a trailer like a BOSS. Right when our son got his learners permit we hit the parking lots with a trailer. He HATED it! But, with time and patience, got ‘er down pat. Then, got a job with a landscaping company after getting his license. Got to drive all the ‘cool’ trucks because he was able to show the boss he had that skill. Pissed the older guys off. 😎 One of the best ‘thanks Dad’ I’ve gotten.
@ecleveland15 ай бұрын
My dad taught me how to drive and back a trailer years before I got my learners permit. I’ve seen grown men in their 30s that couldn’t back a trailer of any kind. I don’t understand why they don’t get someone to teach them or just go to an empty parking lot and learn to do it by themselves.

As a very experienced boater (I've been on boats since I was big enough to be handed off the dock to my dad and he had my brothers and I driving the boat as soon as we could see over the dash. Keep in mind it was the 70s.) It never ceases to amaze me the lack of courtesy and lack of boating knowledge of the new boater. We're lake boaters and our local lake is one of the busiest in the area and lord have mercy at the idiocracy we are witness to.

It's the same here because of weekend out of town boaters from the city. Most of whom, seem to be the type who buy an expensive boat and then take it out only a handful of times a year, but have an entitled attitude and ego's that far exceed that. 4th of July and the other warm weather holidays are just a no go for me. It's just not worth the hassle they usually create.

It's mind blowing watching jetskiiers struggle to load. I ride my seadoo alone every time and it's as simple as backing trailer with 3/4 of the trailer wheels in the water, slowly drive the ski on, leave it in drive which keeps it gently pushed against the rubber stop, secure the winch line and safety chain then shut the ski off. Done in under a minute first time every time.

I DONT UNDERSTAND. I launch, wife drives boat away and picks me up. When we leave, my wife drops me off at the dock. We never dock. Idk why more people don't do that.
@jacobwilliams3938 Жыл бұрын
Because some peoples wives don't feel comfortable driving the boat or backing the trailer and asking them to do so results in tears. So sometimes its better to just avoid the stress because it is supposed to be a relaxing time. Sure we are working on learning but until they are comfident enough to do it and there are no tears, we will be having to tie to the dock and do it the slightly less efficient way. This especially is the case right now for my family after getting a much larger boat and with that came with a higher price tag. At the end of the day she doesnt want to hit the boat on something. Maybe this can provide some insight for you. I understand this isnt the case for everyone. Some wives may not want to even try but for mine its a lot of stress which isnt what boating is about.
@BSTREEEEEET Жыл бұрын
@jacobwilliams3938 Take her out solo and practice! Highways are intimidating for new drivers, launch ramps are intimidating for new boaters. Took my wife out maybe 3 times. No kids, after work, strictly for boating lessons (and skinny dipping).
@jacobwilliams3938 Жыл бұрын
Oh we have multiple times. That is where she decided she felt better about backing the trailer than driving the boat but even when I think she's ready when we are actually there she panics and says she can't do it. No need to push her to do something she clearly is still uncomfortable with because I have gone down that road teaching her to drive a manuel car. I definitely think she will get it but it just takes some longer than others. Now for the wives that refuse to try I got nothing.
@BSTREEEEEET Жыл бұрын
@jacobwilliams3938 My wife is the opposite. She would never want to backup the trailer, ha! I think it's bc I always make room to launch and if someone takes the ramp, I'm first to call them out.
