FULL EPISODE 👉 • Taste Buds - Pancakes ... 👈 Sal and Joe are debating in this episode what is better, pancakes or waffles? Sal then gets upset because Joe loves to switch things up and is adding that pancakes are so good they come in different shapes and forms, like the crepe! But is a crepe a pancake? Joe argues that crepes are 100% pancakes and that the french word for pancakes is crepe -- same difference! But are they the same?
The boys get into it on this episode but tell us in the comments 👉ARE CREPES CONSIDERED PANCAKES?!

Dunno why this was on my feed. But the difference is close enough that either both are true or neither are. Pancake, only addition is a a rising agent. Belgian waffle kinda the same, rising agent but has to be cooked in a Belgian iron to rise. So…. One requires a piece of equipment no one has. And one can just be made on the cast iron the same. For this argument, both should be used.

I feel like people aren't giving the argument a fair chance. If crepes had been named a French pancake, then we wouldn't be having this argument. That was the root of Sal's argument anyways, because it was coming back to no one calls them or know them as pancakes. Otherwise, like Joe said, the crepe is to a pancake what the Belgian waffle is to the waffle. It's a variation, but I do agree that they should've just stayed with the classic pancake and classic waffle.

Like if they were debating something that wasn't food like they've been saying they might do like certain types of pets like dogs versus cats you're not going to specify what breed it is to say why that breed is better than the other species you're going to say this is something that tends to be reoccurring through that entire species and that's why you prefer them that being said I know if that happened that Sal would take dogs and I do love dogs but I don't want to have one I am a friend of dogs and mother of cats he just likes cats cuz of some childhood trauma but I guarantee my girl could have him in love in about 5 minutes she is just a sweet and adorable and gentle as he is Joe is just a jackass and likes to think that he can say whatever the f*** he wants and it counts and Sal is not allowed to say anything cuz he's an idiot because he disagrees with him Sal is very intelligent and we are not stupid if we agree with him we have opinions that differ from yours which makes you a jackass and I honestly am very upset when I find out that I voted on the pole against Sal I don't always have a passionate opinion sometimes it's whatever my mood is that day sometimes I have a very strong opinion and I really really dislike being on Joe side because he's so f****** rude Sal is such a good man and he has a reason for his thoughts and he's not going to think less of you as a human being if you don't agree with him

6:00 - The prep doens't matter in this specific case, because... crepe batter is WAYYYYY different than pancake batter. Source: I tried to use pancake batter for crepes. It was bad. You need more liquid, eggs and less leavening agent. Belgium waffles are waffles, literally just taller and more leavening agent. You could make a regular waffle with belgium waffle batter -- just use less of it. A regular sized pancake with crepe batter would taste horrible and would essentially just be essentially a floury sweet egg bake. It's night and day. And "the french word crepe means pancake" that's conversion FROM french TO english -- a closest meaningful match. French pretty much only make crepes in times where americans would make pancakes - so it's a reasonable linguistic substitute. That's like saying "a light bulb is a fruit because this one language calls their light bulbs electric pears!" They don't really - that's just the closest translation. I doubt any native speakers think of a pear when you say that to them.

For all the Americans in favor of Sal's argument. I am like 90% sure English is the only language that differentiates between pancakes and crepes. Since crepes in French literally means pancake most countries would also call crepes their equivalent of the word pancakes and there literally would not have two different words for the two different styles of pancake. While we are at it a lot of countries also serve crepes/pancakes with meat or other salty foods. Now all that being said I can imagine that anyone from America and I assume other English speaking countries would never consider crepes and pancakes the same thing, so Joe is once again being a bit cheeky here.

@@deepestpurple13 but the literal translation of crepe is pancake. I’m Serbian. We serve “crepes” but the word for them is “palač(ch)inke”. Which is the same word for pancakes. We don’t have a separate word for it. I call both crepes and pancakes “palač(ch)inke” in Serbian...cuz they’re the same thing. It’s not up for debate. This is putting American values on another culture. And I don’t want to take it there. But I wish they would have done plenty more research before doing this. FRENCH fries. HAMBURGer. Crepes. Fanta was made by Germans. Tacos....lol I would like to keep going but I think I’ve shown a slice (of Italian pizza) of how most things in America aren’t from America. I can appreciate your stance but most “American” things were “unamerican” from the go. America is a capitalist corporation down for the profit so if it can convince its consumers that they’re eating an American product to boost sales they’ll do it. If you’re buying these foods because they’re American they’ve hooked you. Like the story of Doritos. Taco flavored chips were shut down originally because the frito company knew that the rest of the country outside the southwest didn’t know what a taco was. This rewriting of food history needs to stop. Like the gyro. Chicago has overpriced gyros and regular priced gyros. Sure Greece has its own economical issues but you can get the Greek food of gyros for a couple bucks in Greece and it will be more healthy and tastier. Why if these American foods are from America then they charge you double...because it’s about the money. Idk if you’re gonna be on the same page or this is the beginning of a problem between us. But I sincerely hope you can recognize the point I’ve made at least.

@@deepestpurple13 basically, I wish they would have done plenty more research so that way we as the audience would be more informed. Maybe if they had a decent segment on the history then you would not have been inclined to make that joke. So no worries. Because your joke actually lends truth to what I’m saying. The “American” way is to steal things right? Chicago literally translated means “smelly/stinky onion” because chicago used to be a marshland and the native Americans called it “smelly onion” because it smelled. So Chicago is another example of the “American” way...I don’t wanna do this with you. You just wanted to make a joke. @@jacobwingate5555 we call them both the same thing here and there. My concern is that they should have elaborated on it more. Just follow along and don’t get mad... *ahem* just like the Americans to steal stuff haha FRENCH fries. HAMBURGer. Doritos didn’t wanna come out with the taco flavor at first because they knew outside of the southwest people never heard of a taco. *you keep following along without getting mad cuz I’m making points* sal , in true American fashion, refutes the truth in an effort to WIN haha because *WINNING* is the ultimate American past time SUCK IT BASEBALL. What else... on the hoagie/grinder/submarine episode they both agreed on the similarities and differences but on this episode they just give up , or should I say sal took it too far. I get that this is entertainment and within the small minde..mean small borders of America but at the end of the day when reality creeps into my few moments to just get away from it all with some shenanigans I think it would be only fair to clarify the difference and similarities to give the audience a better experience. I can appreciate what you’re trying to say, but honestly it’s not debatable. It’s capitalism at its finest. “Folks get pancakes cuz it’s American” if that’s why you buy them then you’ve been hooked by the marketing. In espanol papas fritas means fried potato aka French fries. They don’t call them papas francesas. But they’re also not claiming them like it’s the Hispanic foundation of breakfast or whatever. France was a big part of the American comeuppance. So imagine, folks in their log cabins trying to get full off a meal. And dude accidentally put too much CREPE batter into the pan. And it turned into the “PANCAKE”. They’re like, dang that’s a big crepe.... you better not be mad haha cuz I’m over it already. I’m upset with sal and them, if they would have clarified this in their hour long podcast filled with words and stuff I would have no issue. I would have no need to try and expose the conspiracy that is pAnCaKeS are crepes ... also my phone now autocorrects pAnCaKeS into that so this now became worth it.

You guys are crazy. A crepe is, without a doubt, a thin pancake. It's the same thing, just a type of pancake. Joe is 1000000%, without a doubt, correct.

it’s funny because joe argued tooth and nail that TOAST , TOAST is not bread , but a crepe is a pancake, if we’re talking semantics yeah it is , but a crepe is like a chip in England , to a chip in America. they’re different inherently in flavor , texture , and how you eat it

A lot of people think Sal won this one? I honestly think Joe had a really good point, Sal argued Belgian waffles, thats a big waffle that you have to add ingredients to, to make it bigger, crepes are just a tiny pancake that you have to take some ingredients away to make. I dont see the big problem here lol? Either both of them are valid to argue for or neither.

I usually agree with Sal, but crepes are literally just thin pancakes. By Sal's logic, if a I made a giant thick pancake, it's not a pancake.
