I like the simplicity of the Cricut Mug Press but I’m not sure I can justify the price when it can only do coffee mugs. I wish that Cricut would have made it to do all straight edge (non tapered) cups OR at least state that adapters will be available in the future to do other types of cups. It would make buying it a better deal. Not a coffee drinker so I can’t see the need for this now even though I like how it works. I just wish they would make it like they did the Maker so it could adapt to do other things.
@JenniferMaker3 жыл бұрын
It needs to be a straight sided mug. It can't be tapered. Either Cricut mugs OR sublimation mugs. 12 oz and 15 oz size but the press can fit a 11oz to 16oz cup.

@@JenniferMaker - I know that it has to be a straight sided mug. I just wish Cricut would make some adapters/attachments to add to it in the future for other things to be done in it - in particular, taller items. I'd love to be able to do tall (non-tapered) cups in it as this looks like a simple machine to use and it takes up much less space than a traditional heat press. I love everything Cricut makes but I always want more! ;) Thanks for your videos - they are very informative and I enjoy watching them.

Because the oven is nice, I can also sublimate plates and other big things, which doesn't work in the small mug press .Great video Jennifer Thanks for the comparison ----------------- Ich arbeite nur mit dem Heissluftofen und habe nie Probleme damit. Thanks for a very fair and easy to watch comparison video. I purchased my cricut mug press and am eagerly awaiting delivery. I have made countless personalized mugs, tumblers etc. over the years using adhesive vinyl and always dread the question: “Can I put it in the dishwasher??”. My vinyl that I’ve used oracle 651 has always stayed in when cleaned on the top rack of my dishwasher. But eventually after a couple of years small pieces have come off. So I always recommend hand wash no scrubbing the design. It will be a relief to make gifts using the cricut mug press and not have to worry about dishwasher use not to mention the MICROWAVE! I used a heat gun and it came out just fine. Used it on the back porch, so great ventilation and didn’t take me (actually my adult son) that long. I somewhat agree, but just because it's called a mug press, do we know it won't work with something other than a mug? If I had access to one I would totally try it with other things that were within the same size range. A cylindrical vase, for instance. Or a metal water bottle maybe?
@1960Connie3 жыл бұрын
@@nmjewells no we don’t. But at $200 for the press I’d like to know it would be feasible before spending the money. Especially if I’m a person who has limited funds to spend on the machines and the supplies that go with it. If they’re advertising only the 2 mugs for it, I find it pricey, but look at the Joy. There’s a lot more that can be done with it than was advertised when it was introduced by Cricut. Who’s to say the mug press cannot be used for more than the 2 mugs? I’m going to wait a few weeks or so before I budge on buying this. I like the bundles though. Seems like a decent price for all that you get (plus the 10% discount for Access members). I’ve noticed awhile ago that Cricut introduces new products at retail price and their hard core crafters (such as myself) will purchase it soon as it hits the market. Then a little while later, they reduce the price and introduce accessories and bundles ( I’m looking at those mug bundles 😍). Sooo, I’ll be waiting and budgeting.

Awesome comparisons! The Cricut mug press is a bit pricey for it's one dimensional use. You can only do rounded mugs and not tapered, and definitely no tumblers. The oven is still a winner since you can use several shapes . Cricut needs to implement those choices to justify $199. Esthetically it's great for the room though.

Thank you for the video, all your videos are great learning tools. I have a clam shell cup press and had great results but would love the easy to use Cricut cup press . Can you do sublimation print not just infusible ink. I understand Circut wants you to use their products but the press is expensive and so are the infusible ink products. It appears no one has answered that question, only mention using infusible ink. Again thank you.

So i'd like to see how the Cricut press does with regular sublimation paper. i haven't moved to infusible ink due to limited design choices. having a single color to work with or having to layer. with my standard mug press (which i love) i can have as many colors on my designs as i want. lets see how the Cricut press does with regular printed sublimation designs.

@@tinnyc2000 I agree it’s unfair to say the Cricut won when it was her own fault as to why the press came out wrong.
@yorkshell3 жыл бұрын
@@tinnyc2000 perhaps Jennifer gets commission from cricut for any presses sold as a result of this video. It would be in her best interest to make it appear better than the rest. The mug done in the oven was equally as good and as long as there is plenty of ventilation, it would be fine to use that. And the other 2 were not done correctly so it was an unfair test really.

I don’t have much need for sublimating mugs, and that is the only reason I’m not getting a mug press. But from your cost comparison, it sounds like the Cricut one is not THAT much more expensive (especially now, 7 months later, I’m seeing them go on sale), when you consider the equipment you need to go with the other methods. The traditional press might be a good choice, if you find one that has some safety and other features, which would likely be almost the same price as the Cricut but be more versatile, as in accommodating several sizes/shapes of mugs and tumblers. I think the Cricut one is well-designed, safe and simple to use, though. Just like they have brought out the “3” series machines, it would not surprise me if they come up with a Mug Press 2, with improvements and more versatility. Perhaps they kept it simple to see what kind of interest there would be, for the first go at it. I do have a question: I wonder if you could take a mug that already has a design on it, such as a souvenir or thrift store find, and sublimate a solid color over it? It would be a way to give new life to a mug you got as a gift, that you don’t like or got tired of…. Thank you for this comparison. Very “scientific” and well-planned and explained! I’m in Scotland, and the Hobbycraft stores are now really promoting the “3” machines anod now carry lots of Cricut products. When I got my Maker about 9 months ago, they didn’t have much here at all, so I would buy things in California when visiting family. Hobbycraft is very similar to Michael’s so I’m very at home (maybe too much!) in their stores:)

Your mug must have a poly coating and straight walls. It is important to look for sublimation (poly-coated) mugs. Other mugs will not work. 😊

I have a question, as a seasoned crafter, I'm surprised you wouldn't know to change heat settings etc., to get the best result. Does Cricut sponsor you? If so, it might explain why it won since so many other y/tubers swear by some of the other processes. In all fairness, I'm just wondering. Is Cricut sponsorship involved in this test? I noticed you didn't mention the brand of the other press machine. (I stand corrected if you did and I missed it), thanks.

Cricut does not sponsor me. I just really love Cricut products.

They might not be "paying" her but they give her a ton of free stuff so even if she says she is not bias she clearly is. She probably gets money if you buy things from her link. She is fun to watch but I would suggest watching other people who aren't as bias before you make a big purchase.

As I haven't had any issues with my traditional mug press, I am still very interested in the Cricut Mug Press simply because it takes up less space and the ease of use. That way I can keep my traditional press with the tapered mug adapter and use the Cricut for the mugs with straight sides without having to change the adapters constantly. Save on wear and tear, plus I really just want one because I like the fact that it has a heating element at the bottom.

I do alot of mugs in a traditional heat press. Mine is set for 350 , once you put the mug in the temp drops, My timer does not start until the temp reaches 350 again and then the timer starts counting down from 170 seconds. The way I set the pressure is clamp it down until you cannot move the mug in the press then go a couple or 3 more turns. I Always try to put the mug in the center of the press.
