In the spring of 2006 Calgary Police received an ominous call from someone worried a woman was being held captive in a downtown rooming house. Officers responded but found nothing suspicious.
Over the next few days two patrol officers heard similar stories from several other people as details got more and more disturbing- alleging a woman had been held, tortured and killed. How could they solve a crime they weren’t sure had been committed? And without knowing if there was a victim?
Follow along with Senior Crime Reporter Nancy Hixt as she shares the details of Deadly Rumours.

Stupid Canada justice system all 3 are already out they should have never gotten out. We need a change here. Kudos to the hard working cops who found her that’s a very hard test looking in a landfill and figuring out who she was. They sent her fingerprints here to Winnipeg where I am.

I’m glad I live in Canada where even the poorest people matter and, if they’re murdered, the police try their best to bring about justice. It’s not a perfect system but it’s a lot better than many countries in the world.

Wow. I’m gonna disagree with you there. Robert Pickton case, Highway of Tears and our recent case here in Winnipeg with serial killer Jeremy Skibicki to name a few. In the latter case, he was convicted in 2024 for the murder of 4 indigenous women who he killed in 2022, but 2 of the bodies have never been recovered. It’s only this month, due to government pressure and outrage from the indigenous community, that it has been agreed upon to search the landfill for the remaining two women. IMO if these were white women this delay would never have been an issue. Here in Winnipeg and Manitoba in general, it’s been a long time coming, but I think things are only now beginning to change.

Tell that to the victims of Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka or the parents of Andrew Bagby or Tori Staffords parents when they found out Terri Lynne was at some lodge instead of prison when she'd admitted to hitting that poor little girl with the hammer. The comment about the indigeIndigenous tion is also true. Why has the highway of tears killer never been caught? Amber Tuccero recorded his voice! If it was white girls from the suburbs going missing I'm sure he'd have been caught by now. I'm not indigenous I'm Scottish but have a lot of Canadian family and they're appalled at the justice system.

I watched Dear Zachary and that was enough to tell me what a joke the Canadian "justice" system it not to mention the fact Karla Homolkas walking free. That would be like the British justice system keeping Ian Brady in prison and letting Myra Hindley go free. The UK system has become just as bad and it's scary.

Who's the "goof," now? How ironic that this Sarah person kills someone else for snitching to cops about drugs - and then turns on her co-conspirators to those same police, for a crime far worse? No honour among theives.

So sad. I remember the early-to late 2000s were insane years, the biker influence at that time lead to a lot of accusations of informants, followed by various forms of violence, torture and murder. Ultimately bully mentality by gangs and street groups. I knew the exact type of people like these sick women, and when they were on hard drugs they would turn pure hateful and psychotic. The manslaughter charge and the fact they only served 8-12 years each is the saddest part
