When our brother was 14, he did not come home one night when he clearly stated he’d be home at 11 pm. We could not locate or contact the friend he went out with (also 14). Worried sick, very early the next morning we called the non-emergency police number in Calgary. The officer who took the call totally didn’t give a shit. He’s just out with his friends. We tried to give as much information as possible. Their ages. They never did this before. This was very unusual. The other family cannot locate their son either. This was pre-cellphone era. The officer (I should say POS) became impatient, kept dismissing every thing we said, he was cruel & heartless. I asked him why he was a cop which made him angry. Very unprofessional cop was not going to do anything or process our call any further. It was mind blowing that he didn’t listen to anything we said. Turns out my brother & his friend met two older guys who took them to a party outside the city and left them there! The two took hours to walk back home in the dark but also slept in a field in the early morning hours. They arrived home in the afternoon starving, hungry, dusty, and in so much foot pain. They never went out without a quarter ever again! I’m grateful my brother was safe but cops then and today need empathy training and coaching on how to be human being toward families worried or in distress. Our situation turned out ok. I’m so sorry this mom received cruel treatment from the police. Condolences to all the family and friends. 💔

Reminds me of the case of an Australian man Owen who disappeared in Canada after going to a music festival. He was assaulted & ended up disappearing from the hospital. They didn't do anything until his mum travelled there and got leads and the media got involved. They obviously haven't seen the shows about The First 48 or The First 72 - its much harder to find evidence after the first couple of days. I think the camp owner/manager Phil knew exactly what happened and when but took it with him to his death. Who was he afraid of if he didn't murder the poor guy? What was he trying to keep hidden by taking some of the pictures if that's a true story that he did?

The way the police handled her son’s disappearance and the way they treated her was disgraceful. And the one officer saying he thinks her son is still alive but purposefully living his life not wanting to be found is such a cop-out. They couldn’t solve the case so started making stuff up. Disgusting. I hope this lady has found some peace in her life. My heart goes out to her.

Charles mother was and is a remarkable woman. She has gone on to advocate for the missing loved ones from peoples worlds. She and others who have missing loved ones have also gone on to form the Missing People's Choir who perform to keep their loved ones in peoples minds and to hopefully find them. The choir came to the general publics notice when they performed on BGT UK, and won the hearts of millions around the world who also had missing loved ones. The BGT platform made a huge difference to their cause. I hope that sometime they have the answers.

What are the people who live on the lake like? I’ve visited once and it seems like there’s a local population and perhaps a large seasonal population as well (people who can afford holiday lake houses and jet skis). Just wondering what the relationship is like between the populations and if the RCMP treated everyone the same (like garbage, apparently).

Its always a money issue when someone is reported missing , they dont take them seriously first because they cant possibly mobilize a search and rescue operation everytime someone is reported missing. and yet Ive seen some cases that police acted so quickly because they know someone in the police or very rich and/or connected.

When a missing persons investigation of a relatively normal individual has progressed to news coverage, the chance that they have 'run away because they wanted to' by a dumbass cop is stupid and insulting. Shameful story
