Been living in Downtown Regent Park from 1995 and still here. I have seen Thane in Regent Park from when he was a young boy. He is an amazing person and always had a smile. He worked at Regent Park Community Center. Toronto is getting crazy with violence.

My ex husband was living in Toronto as a kid and he was talking one night at the dinner table about walking to school when he was six years old and I interrupted with " What omg you walked to school by yourself at six years old in Toronto? " His mom suddenly was so defensive when I said that but she said Toronto was different back in those days and it was 1963 and she said a mother didn't have to worry about Pedophiles as much or something terrible happening to her child it was almost unheard of back then.

Theres alot of history in Regent Park. My family goes back since it was a slum in 1915 until they tore it down and it became the first housing project in Canada in 1950. The 90's were crazy there and even the 80's with the crack epidemic now its more gentrified. I had a cousin who got shot there not so long back, lucky he survived. The gangs have been there and everywhere but when they took out the "leaders" all over Toronto and the kids had no rules now so they shoot at everything without consequences. Not saying gangs are cool but thays what it is. Ive heard alot of people died at St.Mikes hospital 20- 25 years ago that could have been saved from gunshots, not sure if thats true. Alot of history there. Anyways stay blessed and stay safe! R.I.P. Thane Murray and family.

I went to Park school (now Nelson Mandela school) in the 90’s. Knew a bunch of guys from Regent. Sadly most of them aren’t here no more. Crazy to think, the police station was in the neighbourhood at that time and it was still crime ridden. RIP to that young man 🙏🏾
