I feel for Reid so much in the episode he and JJ have always had a special bond, they’re younger than everyone else and really connected so I think he’s more hurt because she’s his best friend and that she could lie to him like that. Hotch is different because they have a different relationship Reid tells her everything so it makes complete sense why he’s upset plus I’m sure the trauma of being lied to and abandoned during his childhood is adding to it as well

I didn't like prentiss' arguement at the end where she says ''I mourned the loss of 6 friends''... like they thought you were dead and you knew they're OK. There's a difference

I know right? It almost felt guilt-trippy in a way, and kinda dismissive of his feelings. Like, yeah you felt this way but what about me? I can't imagine that's what they wanted but it's just how it came across. Not to mention, Reid already has trauma related to abandonment, so I can't imagine finding out someone you mourned turned out to be alive and well is doing much for his mental health.

Thank you! That was bad writing. Grieving a dead friend and being apart from a group of friends is not equal. A better idea/missed opportunity: Reid distances himself from the team (treating them as coworkers, but not friends) so he doesn't have to risk feeling the heartache of losing them. It could have lasted a few episodes if not the whole season.

She wasn’t justifying it. She was just letting him know she didn’t have the best time either. She didn’t have a choice either. She died and Hotch and JJ made the decision and when she was healed, she was off to Paris with no say in the matter. She didn’t get to say goodbye either and she didn’t know if she’d ever see them again. They were her family and just like they lost her, she also lost them. No it’s not the same, but they all grieved a loss.

I agree there is a difference. I honestly think that line shouldn't exist. At the very least, I don't think it's something Emily would ever say to Reid. I think that scene should've addressed more than anything the idea that he considered taking dilaudid because Emily's death affected him that much. Especially since Emily was the one who he took out his anger on when he was taking dilaudid as she was expressing the most concern while everyone else was ignoring the fact that something was obviously wrong with him and who he later spoke to regarding his abandonment issues when Gideon left. Effectively replacing the loss of Gideon with Emily, imo. That scene should've been an acknowledgment of his feelings first and foremost. However, what I do get from that line of "losing 6 friends" no matter how badly written it is, is that Emily really thought she might never see any of them again as long as Doyle lived. In other words, even though she didn't die, she felt like she actually did die. She lost her friends, her job, the home she had made herself, her sense of safety/comfort, she had an ulcer likely caused from her surgeries after the doyle incident or just from stress, nightmares etc, they touch bases with other trauma she deals with throughout season 7 but that scene should've been a way to connect with Reid's own trauma (which they do this correctly in later episode) rather than it sounding like a numerical comparison of their losses.

Yeah I didn’t love that she basically said it wasn’t okay for him to be upset when it was perfectly normal and understandable and given time he would’ve gotten over it but I didn’t like that they rushed him

I agree with you on two points in this episode. Firstly, the actor who played Cy did a really good job at portraying the sadistic mentally-challenged character. Second, Cy does deserve the death penalty. He's not just criminally insane, it's eventually revealed that he's always been a psychopath, and he admitted it in his videos when he said "I enjoy hearing them scream" and talked about how he liked hitting his dog when he was a kid, and that feeling had not changed. He also had delusions of grandeur, always making things out to be bigger than they were, and even talked about things that had never happened, which was why Matt never believed him about Lyla until Lyla herself explained what really happened.

I understand Reid reaction, they are best friends, that is why he is mad at JJ and not Hotch, is a sense of betray of the trust they have, but it isnt serious, he could get over he just need more time, I am glad this work out quickly, also about this case is very disturbing when you see unsub enjoying the tortures, what he did to the last girl he kill is brutal, he deserve death penalty

I think something that really bothered me was that we had these scenes of Emily telling Morgan it's okay if he's angry, he's allowed to feel that way, etc. But when Reid actually expresses anger and hurt at it, everyone kinda dismisses it and wants him to just get over it.
@StaubZuStaub
@StaubZuStaub 15 күн бұрын
@@Dazzlefae I completely agree, Morgan gets away with his emotional outbursts even to the detriment of the team because "he's the cool one" and don't get me started on Rossi. But Reid must always keep his emotions in, even when in severe distress, because he usually does. Forgetting that that is a trauma response to being abandoned by his dad, caring for his mother and being severely bullied throughout school. The handling of Reid's character is terrible 7/10 throughout this show.

Unpopular opinion: The Reid and JJ tension in this episode didn't last long enough for me. Reid was completely justified with his emotions and he should not have been so easily won over. While i agree that JJ is also justified, she was under government oath and personal oath to protect a friend, I dont believe this anger Reid felt should have been so easily resolved. I also harbor a little bit of anger towards JJ thinking Reid's anger was egotistical or arrogant when he has NEVER been either of those things and she knows that good and well.

It's weird to me that everyone goes on about how great a profiler JJ is when in this first episode of her as a profiler, she...epicly fails at it. Reid is the godfather of her child, she should know him better than anyone. She should've known that he had every right to be emotional about Emily's sudden rebirth and upset that JJ deceived him (he's aware they had to, but his feelings are still normal and expected). And then she handles it in the worst way possible. She confronts him and basically gloats that she managed to deceived him. It was beyond cruel. She's actually cocky cause she thinks she's a good liar (she's not), but the only reason he never knew was because he could never fathom her lying to him about the death of their best friend. And you're right, why would she ever think that Reid was being egotistical when he has never been. He allowed himself to be vulnerable with her which is hard for him, and she doesn't even understand why he feels betrayed? He thought they were sharing grief, but she was pretending. And then, despite him sobbing into her arms for 10 weeks, she doesn't ever consider that a recovering drug addict going through grief is vulnerable to a relapse? What kind of profiling is that? Hotch should've known that too, but he doesn't spend much time with Reid outside of work. Sorry for the para, just needed to get this off my chest.

I agree completely. I understand that JJ truly couldn't tell Reid but she was completely wrong about why he was angry. He was hurting so badly that he was tempted to take drugs for relief and she made it about her. I felt like they resolved it too quickly but I assume they did to progress the season. He eventually would have accepted that she couldn't tell him, but I would have taken more time to process his feelings.

He may be menataly challeglenged but he knew what he was doing, he was cruel, he did know what his actions would do, he knews what death is, he knew he was killing them, he said he liked things he did to them, he was revengful and manipulative. So yeah for me he should be proces like sane person, his mental health should be left out.

I just want to say Prentiss excuse is BS. "I lost 6 friends" you knew they were alive and that they didnt die. Spencer on the kther hand didnt. Do not compare yourself to Spence lol
@stephaniewade2973
@stephaniewade2973 4 ай бұрын
I'm sorry but I disagree with the consensus here. Spencer is old enough and smart enough to understand why he should not have been privy to Prentiss's "death" secret. If it was not believable then Doyle would have known the truth. He was acting like a child toward JJ BECAUSE they're friends.
