I have a slight gap between the optic and the slide. You have to look for the gap by holding the slide up and looking at the side, with a good light source behind the slide. It is not sitting flat on the milled surface of the slide. The shop I bought it at put the slide with the optic in a vise and squeezed it and lessened the gap, but it is still there. It is also higher in the front. Understand, the optic absolutely DOES NOT move or wiggle on the slide, at all. That is not the issue. My concern is that it doesn't sit flat. I am probably going to take it to my bro in law's machine shop and do some precision measuring to see why it isn't seating properly. It looked like at one point while you were showing your installation I could see a gap between the slide and optic as well. In the video you never specifically looked for a gap, just for a firm mount.

I just checked for you. If you look at the optic sitting on the slide cut it appears completely flat with no gap at all. If you shine a light behind it you can see a small sliver of light in the middle of the optic but not on either of the ends (front and back of optic are completely touching slide). Also this thing is dead on accurate with the optic I am talking hitting golf balls at 20 yards. Let me know if there is anything else you want me to check but it sounds like something is off with yours. The reason I made this video was someone else was saying either the back would sit flush or the front but they could not get both to be flat at the same time. I was thinking the bottom of their optic must have a curve or some manufacturing defect.

@@goodlifehacker before the shop squeezed it together with a vise it was high in the front. I can put a dial indicator on the mating surfaces that measures to 0.0005”. I’m very confident that exceeds their production tolerances. I would suspect at best they hold +/- 0.002”.

My Shield RMSC won’t fit flush because of that copper coil/pin thing protruding from the bottom of the slide cut

The protrusions on the bottom are supposed to fit into the notches on the bottom of the red dot. There are a few mounting pattern standards and there are various compatibility guides, but nothing straight forward.

@@goodlifehacker not the black protrusions. Those fit my shield sight correctly. It’s like the retaining pin for the ejector that’s protruding out and making contact with the battery.

@@cyka_delik9537 Ok I got it. I just checked mine and that pin is totally flush it does not protrude up at all. If you're looking at the top of the slide with the muzzle pointing away that pin is at about the 2 o'clock position on the slide cut out. If yours is sticking up and you cannot push it down I would suggest bringing it to a gunsmith and have them check it because mine is flush and it should be flush if it's interfering with your red dot.

Nice video bro. I got a riton 3t MPRD 2 red dot for a good deal, but it didn't come with screws. Do you have any idea what size the screws are? I can't seem to get a straight answer from them or Smith.

Thanks. I just measured the replacement screws that S&W sent me with my calipers. The thread width seems to be 3.5mm and they seem to be 6mm long. I think you might need a bit longer because the red dot may take up more space than the slide cut cover in height. Let me know how it goes...

No problem I learned something as well about the thread spacing and terminology for the metric screws. I think you need M3.5 (width) x 0.5 (thread spacing) x 6mm or 8mm length. Maybe get two of each and see which works better. Good luck. Maybe I'll end up doing a video on screws :)

What was the size of the screw you used to install the CT

I used the ones that came with the crimson trace. In one of the other comment replies either on this video or on my Shield Plus video I measured the screws with a caliper and provided the sizes. Let me know if you can't find it.

Hi the Shield Plus came with the ct1500 which is no longer on the Crimson Trace website, but I believe it is the same as ct1550 which is there
