They don't respect their own feelings enough to be upfront about how they feel from the get go, and end up disrespecting their "friend". Usually under the guise of "wanting to preserve the friendship". But in the end, not respecting themselves becomes a self fulfilling prophecy that leads to them destroying the friendship they were so desperately trying to preserve by not speaking their truth. When had they just been straight up at the beginning and had been willing to walk away and/or set boundaries, all of this could have been avoided.
