It's always fun to watch people go from "I'm not an artist" to "Wait, when did I become an artist???" It's just an inevitable when you do art that you become an artist. Also, it's very fun to watch people change and iterate on the designs they've made.

"Designs are meant to be iterated. If the design caused a grievous misunderstanding? Change it! If you don't like how it looks? Change it!" "Communication is done through art. Whether it's spoken art, written art, or visual art. Often that art is ignored. Thought to be ancillary in straight of reporting numbers. But that's what makes them seem unapproachable. Gatekeeping it behind terminology." "Effective communication is an art. Using various media to effectively relay a point across the students, other educators, neighbors, and even officials. If you think art is just about pretty drawings from a cobbled collection of references? That's frankly a very shallow and shamefully incorrect view of a whole facet of being a social organism. There's more to you than your parts!" These are some powerful lessons I've picked up on in this video. And dang, it has helped you across your artistic journey! Congratulations on 100K subs, n0Rt!

god you are so right about the communication parts of science reports. As someone with ADHD, I really struggle to read texts written in the passive voice. Its so boring it makes it so insanely difficult for me to focus or just simply comprehend words that i've read. As a student, being someone who has to take about 30 minutes to read just the abstract of a report, doing work is way more difficult for me than it should be. If papers were written in a way that was meant to be readable, id be much more functional.

A possible idea if you were to redesign the snails... make them based on the sin, cos, and tan waves, with the design referring to how they act at 0... or on the range from [-π, π] ... you could possibly even make a reference to how tan is sin over cos in the final design (possibly by having the sin shell sit on top of the cos shell? Idk)

One of my projects is a proof of concept that reusing the same zoological inspirations for multiple collectible/trainable creatures within a single project isn't a doomed prospect, a game where literally every thing you can get is based on a fox in some way. Some are based on mythical foxes like the kitsune, some are based on uncommonly talked about fox species like the cape fox and cross fox, some are based on idioms like the "foxy lady" fitting your obligatory feminine humanoid slot, some based on wordplay like a bat (flying fox), red squirrel (fox mouse), and red panda (fire fox). I'm determined to make it work even though I'm not as passionate about foxes as I am about rodents or mustelids, I just like them quite a bit.

Honestly this video is so inspiring for my art, I’ve been seriously struggling with keeping up with it alongside things like high school and gender identity exploration, but this video helps me see that those feelings of “god this design sucked, I just want to completely replace it” is normal. You inspired me to make my own creature collector, being focused more on mythos and fantasy rather than STEM concepts, so things like my types are named in things like Greek or Latin (Ignis, Aqua, Silva, etc.) and my designs will be concepts from things like alchemy, mythology, and stuff commonly found in fantasy and maybe religion, not sure on the last one. My Silva/Grass starter is gonna be a kitsune or inu, minorly inspired by Ōkami alongside the fantasy concept of a sentient and raging forest, but every time I draw it, it looks meh and like I wasn’t able to make it look like a starter or like the concepts in question or too much literally like the concepts. It really helps to see that it’s expected to go through several attempts at a design, especially an important one like a starter.

Improving my art over the years while keeping to the original ideas. The stupid thing is that the names are the exact same. Ahh,,, ,,m,,.. the Conet... part entirely, was AGONIZING for me. The trumpet VST playing through the entire section was piercing for my ears, just absolutely painful and also, there is SO MUCH math in music. I have no clue how you would integrate it for a fakemon, but music is simply ratios. look into microtonality (xenharmonic wiki might be a source)- if you want to peer more into the abyss of ways to attempt to approximate those ratios, with people using matrices and geometries and the zeta function as they obsess with prime numbers.

Ok. Here's my own art story. So anyways, my fursona (a fox/phoenix/galah hybrid) went through multiple revisions until she became what she is today. My fursona wasn't even this 3 animal hybrid mythical creature at the start. She was various animals such as a chicken, alicorn (because MLP) and purely a phoenix. In 2017 and 2018 she was Pokemon specieses like a Latias, Heliolisk and Latias/Lunala hybrid. The species of my fursona was finalised in 2019 when I learnt that galahs existed. However, her design wasn't finished yet. It went through lots of revisions. One that I want to talk about is about some skill issue. The proportions on one version (more specifically one made in 2020) were horrendous! The limbs were too short and the body was too long! This wasn't my fault as I followed a proportions guide a little bit too hard and didn't notice until 2021. Artwork of her final design with proper proportions was made in 2022. However, I noticed these off proportions in 2021 but didn't create the art until 2022 and used the horrible proportions version as a placeholder. Also don't forget my character has a protogen form and she used to have wings! Wings are illegal on protogens without consent. I tried to justify it but it was still breaking the protogen rules so I redesigned her in 2023 so she could have a jetpack to fly with instead.

i used to plan making a rhythm game, which i abandoned because i couldn't get enough level ideas. maybe i _can_ make that game someday because this video inspired me to try a new approach for coming up with level ideas: instead of trying to fit my levels around random cartoon scenarios i could base my levels on music theory concepts and create the cartoon afterwards - maybe with each level's description having an "inspirations" tab that lists or explains the level's most important inspirations. this doesn't mean i _will_ get enough level ideas but now i have a place to look 🙂

I HATE trying to add art to turn STEM into STEAM. Not cos art is lesser or easier than science, tech, engineering or maths, but because I feel art genuinely doesn’t fit in amongst them. It’s too different. I get trying to remove the whole science vs. art antagonistic dichotomy, but implying they’re the same is an over correction. I like the metaphor of a plate of food. STEM can be the food and art can be the plate. Both are important for a nutritious diet. After all, the most amazing food in the world looks unappealing if served badly, or even becomes dangerous if served unhygienically. Doesn’t mean we need to add crockery to the food pyramid.

Now that I’m thinking about it, not that I haven’t ever before thought about it, I want to be an artist but I haven’t even figured out my own grounds; I haven’t found what would make my so-called art better. I’ve, truly, found nothing so far. Thinking about it, I might just change my profile picture as well, as I’m currently kind of inspired to try something more… unique than just my Roblox avatar’s head. You know what, I’ll try. I’ll try and see what I think may suit me well. Maybe I’ll change my username, too, since there’s no real inspiration behind it… not anymore, anyways.
@Ririxpj5 ай бұрын
I mean, I could start with pencil and paper, getting the concept right first before actually doing it… But, wait, don’t I need a point of reference, an idea, a deeper meaning behind it? And how exactly am I supposed to turn something, that is just a concept made up of words, into qualities of a creature/character/etc.’s design? And aren’t there principles I need to follow? Certain rules or things? Why am I bothered by any of this? I should just try a design, just a simple shape, a simple idea. I have to start off small.

There's still a ways to go when it comes to incorporating art in stem, but it's at least acknowledged now. Is it wrong that I kinda prefer some of these 😅 like don't get me wrong you've certainly grown but the grass starter is such a more intriguing and fun design to me and I like the look of the OG water starters more than what we've landed on. I feel like the finch mon idea needs to be used in Stema it has potential to be my favorite Also when you talked about your acceleration birds you mentioned blank spots but I do think having clear design is easier sometimes to visually digest. I love both the flightless and flying designs but if I were to change one thing about either it'd be how busy the flying ones look I feel like they could use some more blank spaces to help the design feel more visually appealing. That being said you have really improved a lot. Minter works a lot better as a single stage mon although the baby form might be my favorite off of sheer cute factor.

i just realised how _all_ game dev is some sort of STEMA project 🤯 Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Art ## Science many game mechanics are based off real world physics. driving simulatiors and flight simulators attempt to simulate physics exactly but most games - like parkour games and fun racers - have cartoony physics. cartoony physics are _not_ totally unrealistic, just exaggerated. and playtesting is science: when you first make any part of a game, you can just guess how people are going to play it. only through playtesting can you find out how people _really_ play. ## Technology video games are always made for computers using a programming language. they can not be made with any other kind of technology: • if you try to make a video game without a programming language, you get a custom level for an already‑made video game. • if you try to make a video game without computers, you get something like a sport or a table top game. ## Engineering to keep a good overview of the game's source code, you have to plan how it's all going to fit together. and optimization is just as tricky as other engineering. ## Mathematics the computer calculates _a lot_ of mathematical equations which the game devs added so the game does certain things like • counting time • calculating how fast something moves in which direction • rolling a random number • rolling a number that has been pre‑randomised with a seed • setting the right audio volume based on the audio settings and computer graphics are all math, calculating the color of every pixel ## Art all good games have art - and design, which is art with the purpose of making things easy to understand. the right music and visuals make a game _much_ more impactful than it ever could be with just the STEM elements: players just _love_ them some good colors and movement with fitting music and sounds.
