The thing crip mac forgot is called schizo affective disorder. Its basically both bi polar (the manias and depression) mixed with schizophrenia (the audio-visual hallucinations) its really terrible. I can relate to the story at 14:00 so damn deeply. i had 10 years of supervised felony probation in northern VA. Made it 5 years without a violation. Could barely afford rent even working 55 hours a week, got offered an opportunity in Colorado, had a place to stay, work ready to start on day 1, both my roommates and employer willing to meet with my PO. But got denied anyway, moved anyway, got a warrant, turned myself in, sat in jail for 7 months, and by a small miracle got a reasonable judge that read the letters people sent on my behalf, looked at the case, and threw the whole thing out. if not for that one decent judge my story would have ended a whole lot different, i had 10 years of suspended prison time attached to my probation, for theft over $200. our probation and parole system is broken, and designed to force people into an endless loop of incarceration.

I just testified in a federal case last week, I was a campaign manager and when a law was repealed the lobbyist claimed my boss had solicited a bribe, attempted extortion and lied to the FBI. Absolutely ruined his life. 40 years of a pristine career and reputation along with his entire savings all for being a moderate and not voting party lines essentially. We went to trial two years ago and had a hung jury for two counts and a not guilty on the lying count. Judge dismissed retrial. FEDS appealed and retried him- and we WON again. With public defenders. It was absolutely ASTONISHING. He refused to plead guilty to something he didn’t do and lost everything fighting to clear his name. It was a miracle the first time, the second time around the jury deliberated for under an hour, I’ve never seen grown men so terrified in my life as we all took the elevator down, the lawyers were shaking convinced they lost. Again, absolute miracle. The conviction rate is like 98%+

@smokedbeefandcheese41449 ай бұрын
Stop calling it that then. It is a legal system not a justice system and you should acknowledge that. It is the law and nothing more. It says nothing about morality nor does it have the right to. The biggest problem we have is that people still put stock in the courts even though we all know at this point that this stuff doesn’t work even when you get the right person. It just makes people more violent. All jail does is create criminals and that’s the point rich people need in under class under there under class. They always have. Because you have to have somebody that you tell yourself you’re better than or else you will question why you let rich people do whatever they’re doing. That is the whole game put someone under the middle classes maintain rock-bottom for a population so that you can always threaten people by making them into one of those people. At the bottom. That’s the whole point of a felony is to reduce opportunity. In my opinion felons have no debt to society because society abandoned them and placed an endless burden on their back.

Andrew, I'm very surprised to hear you say you didn't know the criminal justice system penalizes everyone that doesn't accept a plea deal. If you MAKE THEM DO THEIR JOB by exercising your right to a "fair" & "public" trial, deciding to fight charges against an opponent with unlimited resources, they will punish you by giving the max penalty possible, even adding charges if necessary. We do not have a justice system. The deck is stacked against you IF YOU DONT have the vast amount money or connections required to have the slightest chance. Doesn't matter if you're innocent or guilty. Who can win is all that matters.

As someone with a close family member who has schizophrenia (and as someone who's always had mental health issues themselves) this shit had me tearing up because the way our system (and society) treats severe mental illness truly is just heartbreaking, and ya'll putting this shit on the spotlight means a lot more than you may know. Donating right now for sure, but the world needs more people like Andrew Callaghan and Channel 5, thanks for helping to bring a little more humanity back into the world, ya'll really are amazing. EDIT: And to everyone in the replies saying mental health doesn't excuse certain choices, him lliving that way of life, etc... that's where other factors come into play and when you don't know any other way (or gotta watch out for your own safety/survival) what else are you gonna do? But it seems like he's been trying to get out of that and do other things and prison would just ruin the positive progress he's been making, has a higher chance of just keeping him in that way of life, etc... but then again our systems never been about rehabilitating or helping anything, just criminalizing it 🤷♂️

A relative had schizophrenia. One thing they definitely shouldn't have is access to a firearm. I’ve done prison time, 5 years to be honest lol. I can’t express enough how important family support is through times like this. His grandmother and mother will be a life vest for him even though they will do the time with him. I’d like to say that this video was incredibly accurate on how our justice system works. Most people don’t understand that once you’re in it, they will try to keep you in it. I’ve seen state inmates sold to be housed in other states so the original state can fill more beds and show numbers to the government that another prison needs to be funded and built, instead of actually releasing people on parole who were eligible. This will be a hard road and a long road for this family but I will say the feds have a much better release program than the states. The state will give you a bus ticket and a check for whatever you earned (maybe $40) and let you out the gate. The feds will take you to a halfway house a year or 6 months before your release and let you work in the community and earn a real check at a real job in your own clothes to better acclimate you to society. Prayers to this family
