Thanks for 1MIL 🎉🎉🎉 Never thought this little edit I cried over while making could reach so many of you. To be honest, it saddens me to see you guys fighting in the comments over who's to blame. I think it's infinitely more complex than that. Meredith and Amelia are both such layered and difficult women and I love the conflict between them, what unites them and what divides them. I love them both and their respectice journeys, how much they have had to overcome in their lives. It shouldnt be a context of who suffered the most. I'm glad they found it in themselves to forgive each other for all the horrible things they've said and done. Wow so many of you guys really don’t understand Meredith. We have to remember that Meredith basically lost everything she had in life. For years, she had no happiness or joy. Neglected by her mother and growing up without a father led her to having no stable relationship with anybody. Then Cristina and Derek came. She had never had a relationship as strong as these. Then they left. She’s alone again. Then Amelia comes, demanding a sisterly relationship between the two of them. First of all, the last time she tried to have a relationship with a sister she didn’t grow up with lead to many many tears and pain. Second, what bigger of a reminder can you get of Derek? The same last name and similar face, along with the similarities of the close relationship she had with Cristina. This is all too much for Meredith. She was raised to be independent. She was raised without anybody on her side. She doesn’t understand how family works because no one ever taught her. Meredith is understandably flawed and that’s what makes her such a strong and complex character. She is far from perfect but that’s relatable. You’re telling me you never made mistakes that you regret? Yes, Meredith should have called Amelia when her brother was dying. However, she was dealing with her own grief and staying strong for her two fatherless children. Everybody’s mad at Meredith for not calling Amelia when nobody is talking about how Amelia sprang this argument a year later, telling Meredith that Derek would be disgusted by her. That is wrong on so many levels. Meredith isolated herself with two kids and no support system while dealing with a pregnancy with no one to take care of her. Amelia was surrounded by friends and family to help her grieve healthily. If you would all just try to understand Meredith, she shouldn’t be getting all this hate.

Amelia has no family support either. All of the Amelia friends were Meredith's friends first. The only person who gave Amelia chance to be better was her brother Derek,they survived a shooting together lost their father in it. She deserved to see his brother. She deserved to be heard when she told Meredith what she did was wrong not shouted at and playing the victim card of how Meredith has to keep herself together because she has children. Her projection of Derek's death on Amelia is understandable to some extent but then again instead of acknowledgement she acted like some kind of hero ( on Amelia wedding) for giving her decent support when Amelia was freaking out. At the same time also advised owen to call christina few minutes before wedding ? They try to make her flawed hero so bad it just comes out as hypocrisy.

The problem is Amelia expected more from the relationship too soon without having built that connection. When Meredith said u are Derek's sister Christina is my sister, she was basically saying they didnt have that bond, Amelia took that for granted because when she came to town derek was alive, she didn't earn Meredith respect or loyalty. Lexi was her actual blood sister and that took a while develop for same reasons. As an only child Mer wasnt raised with a guideline on sibling relationships, so she builds those bonds alot slower and more cautiously than both Amelia and Lexi who had sisters and and a preconceived idea and what that relationship should look like

For those who don't know (or don't remember), Amelia also had a complicated life. She saw her father dies when she was a child, her mom neglected her and she was saw as the black sheep of the family, she had problems with addiction, lost her fiancé and father of her baby, ALSO lost a baby, Derek was the only person of her family that supported her in some way, and than she lost him. Of course she was mad that Meredith didn't call her. Wouldn't you be if your brother died? Yes, Meredith had her reasons, she was also dealing with her grief and two children. That's why I don't think any of them deserves the hate, they both went through really bad things.

Amelia will never be half the sister Cristina is to Meredith. And Cristina may not physically be there anymore but her and Mere still keep in touch. Amelia will never understand how much Meredith has loved or lost. She will also never understand everything Cristina has done for Meredith and how much they have been through together. Cristina is the reason she gave Lexie a chance, she operated and saved Derek with a gun to her head, hell in an ironic way she made it possible for choosing Maggie and bringing her into Meredith's life. Hell Cristina even saved Meredith's life by making them try again when she coded after drowning. I could give a thousand more examples, but Amelia will never replace Cristina (to Owen or Meredith) and she will never comprehend how amazing Cristina is.

Meredith may take a long time to warm up to someone but once she has a connection with you she is fiercely loyal. It was hard to watch Amelia and Meredith have such a strained relationship when Derek first died but I think over time they've grown to love and respect each other.

People here hating on meredith know nothing about meredith. It's the same old story with lexi, amelia and maggie Lexi came and decided to tell mere she was her sister when she was literally holding a trauma patient and then went on to practically stalk her every step, getting into her life and business when she didn't even know how broken a person meredith is. Meredith lived hell and she got to have everything mere didn't. Then came amelia. Meredith was always supportive, way more supportive and respectful to her than Derek ever did. He was at times abusive to amelia and that was a side of derek meredith had ignored for years. He had a huge complex when it came to Sharing spotlight or letting someone grow especially the women in his family. He did it so many times to meredith but she git over it. She couldn't do it when he went back on his promise to her and then sulked and mopped and tried to steal amelia's job. Amelia herself told meredith he'd do something like that to her. Amelia showed meredith Derek's insecure side, the worst side right before he died and yeah meredith should've called her but you don't treat a mourning widow the way amelia treated her. They all walk all over meredith, give her crap but yeah, she's still loyal to them in her own way and it's not always right but God sake she's not always wrong. She's kinda the best flawed female character I've ever got to see. It's not wrong to be dark and twisty and own up to it. Atleast she admits her flaws

meredith lost everyone she loved, if it was death or them leaving. ex; cristina, alex, george, derek, izzie, ect. meredith lost every single one of her friends one by one and she lost the ones she kept closest last, she didn’t wanna go through that again, she didn’t wanna keep someone so close just to lose them again and again and again because that’s just painful.

Mer isn't cruel. People pop into her life and expect her to love them on the spot, when everyone Meredith's ever loved is either dead or leaving her. And all her sisters are either 6ft under or 10000 miles away, so to expect to be all welcome party for her was nothing to expect. Plus Meredith is genuine. If Amelia was her sister then she'd make a real connection with her instead of just throwing Derek(her dead husband) in her face everytime they get in an argument and bringing up her own insecurities. Meredith was being meredith. Half-twisted sister, part widow, part surgery boss, part single mom and completely brave, strong and honest. P.S: SHE'S MEREDITH GREY. Born with the dark & twisties and protector of her family, friend group, a hospital and her emotions.

I dont think they want her to love them. They just want to be treated with respect. And tbh after watching few seasons, you can tell that meredith is not very respectful to new faces. She respects patiens, other (high-level) surgeons, friends but no one who has some kind of connection to her. There is many things that are off about meredith. I know how hard her life was and i understand being afraid of new family members, but all they wanted was to know her. I totally get why amelia wanted to know the closest person to her brother. Meredith is just too selfish to see that everyone else is hurting too, not just her.

my dad died when I was a baby my mom didn't call his family when she got in the ambulance because she was freaking out she was thinking about her kids she called them later and his brothers were his best friends They weren't mad she didn't call sooner they understood but now they only come around twice a year and we take care of my grandma we are a reminder to them of their best friend. but they don't. hate us. they are just sad. anyway, They don't hate my mom for not calling sooner they get it she had two young kids to figure out, her husband had just died and they had a great relationship their entire life.
