It looks ugly afterwards and frankly it's scary when a roaring fire is less than 50 meters from your home. the newly appointed water boss of LA, janisse quinones, makes $750,000 a year. gavin newsom, governor of CA, makes almost $300,000 in salary and 'benefits.' imagine how a person in charge of one area's water makes vastly more than the man who runs the entire state, yet he somehow managed to recently buy a $9.1M mansion. in 2014, billions were approved to build new water storage infrastructure... which was never built. CA perennially is voted the most corrupt state in my country. the second and third spots seem to flip-flop between NY and IL. between unions, corruption, and powerful lobbyist groups like the audubon society (believe it or not), it's no wonder these things get out of control.

They haven't cleared the brush in 30 - 40 years. The female mayor of LA cut the fire department's budget by 17%. The city council appointed the first lesbian female fire chief who went all in with the DEI and increased the number of women firefighters from 4% to 8%. Newsom vetoed a bill that would facilitate the natural flow of fresh water from Alaska to California to protect the delta smelt, a 2-3 inch fish endangered in California. The fire hydrants went completely dry trying to fight the fire because they didn't have enough water stored. The level of stupidity and incompetence is mind boggling.

For anyone in Britain or not in California the fire is bad because they have no water and a shortage of firefighters that have been destroyed by budget cuts and DEI hires. The government and environmental groups have thwarted attempts to build new reservoirs and dams so there’s no water in the hydrants. And for people whose homes have been destroyed, you need a permit to rebuild which can take up to 3 years to do. So everyone in Hollywood who have been living in their ivory tower are in for a world of hurt when they learn they cannot rebuild their home right away. Also their power grid is over 100 years old and haven’t bothered to upgrade it. The whole state is a hell hole run by morons.

This is a tragedy and not something to celebrate, but at the same time my honest reaction to this decades-long failure of municipal planning isn't a huge outpouring of sympathy either. One of the interesting things most people don't realize is that around 30% of the men fighting the fires are prison inmates, who are not allowed to use water, but instead must wield chainsaws and hand axes inside the burning forests to try and contain the spread. And they get paid only $20 a day, and are given one meal consisting of a single sandwich and an apple. Honestly, thinking of the dirty and dangerous jobs - many have died in the activity - these men are being forced to do really puts a lot of this disaster into perspective, and it doesn't put California or LA in a very positive light in my mind.

I watched a 60 minutes episode about 10 years ago that had to do with the water table in California especially southern California it showed healthy underground areas and then it showed California and it was solid black. Overusing the water for farming and other things to the point where nothing underneath basically making it a tinder box. Mind you this was years ago before Paradise burned and all the seasonal fires that the state gets. Lake Shasta up north was nearly totally dried up like lake Mead. Alarming and scary feel bad for everyone down there. I did wonder why the helicopters weren't using ocean water near the palisades fire since the ocean is right there.

The lyrics to the song “Ænema” by Tool rings too true now Spoiler Alert: it predicted the end of LA
@nomdeguerre84643 сағат бұрын
@@chucksenhowzen9740 it doesn't "predict" anything. The lyrics are around the well-known discussions of fault lines leading to 'California falling into the ocean' which precedes the song by a long time. It also talks of flooding, kind of the opposite of what's going on now. Stop trying to make it prophetic. Bad Religion got it much closer anyways.

As it turns out, planting EXTREMELY flammable and invasive eucalyptus trees (thanks, german guy from the 1800s), reroute most of the water supply to feed the incredibly thirsty almond cultivations, and then cut firefighting and woodland management budget is a recipe for environmental disaster.

Apparently most insurance companies had stopped even OFFERING Fire Insurance coverage in many of these locations... And any providers that still sold Fire Insurance were charging $50K+/month! So chances are that many/most of the properties will NOT be receiving any Insurance Money. And Building Permits are famously difficult to acquire in California, so a lot of these property owners might be forced to basically just WALK AWAY from their newly VACANT and now WORTHLESS land!

Its worse than that, Drinker. Many if these people recently lost insurance coverage, and those that are insured, CANNOT rebuild their houses in the same fashion, of the same materials, as they will insist that they are built to modern codes. They will make rebuilding unaffordable for all but the wealthy. And even some of them will not be allowed to rebuild on sloped properties.
