The problem with Madame Web is its about a superhero with no powers, other than seeing the future. They should have made the movie about Sydney Sweeney's character. So, she starts the movie as this nerdy schoolgirl with glasses. @Lawrence_Talbot exactly... it's a moronic premise that excuses the absolute incompetence of those involved like they were destined to fail. Ironman was a literal nobody and Marvel didn't even have anyone in the top 3 known characters all being behind the DC trinity... then those characters who were known like Spider-Man & X-Men, they had all already been sold off. And also because his negatives and positives almost all matched for any movie or show. And I am not even remotely close to anything Scotish!!! :D For the last couple of years though.. right, I actually do not watch most of that H-wood garbage but instead listen to these guys having a blast disecting every " heavy scent flavoured piece of art" spat out of Turdwood. Which ironically indeed, provides much more intelectual entertainmnet, the disection part that is. And some rare episodes that would recommend something worth my time to be spent on cinema... I am the generation (X is it...?) that grew up with 80ies action movies, StarWars, T1,2, original Indiana Jones etc etc... And I was hyper excited when H-wood brought the comics and scifi back onto big silver screen in 2000s with suchgravitas! As a 30+yo back then I peed hot when Avengers saga came around with first Iron Man and Cap! The first one to get in the seats! And renewal of Star Wars even got me fired up...before I watched it! Yeah. No. I'll wait now. Or go back to books.

I’ll never understand why Sony thinks we want movies about Spider-Man’s most least interesting side characters. Like we were supposed to get a movie about el muerto, a character that was in 2 Spider-Man issues 20 years ago and a rumored aunt may spy movie. We could be getting projects like a Spider-Man 2099 film, superior Spider-Man film, scarlet spider film, Silk film, a film about one of the spider women, iron patriot film, a showdown between Otto Octavius and Norman Osborn, ends of earth Spider-Man film, a black cat and vulture heist film, a May Parker film, a carnage film, an agent venom film, a film about a serious Venom instead of that obnoxious dipshit in the last 2 venom movies, a Kraven or Morlun film hunting down spider people, and a sinister six film with the most popular Spider-Man villains instead of morbius, but nope, we apparently need solo films about madame web, that blind old woman that never fights in the comics and is just a guide, el muerto, a background wrestler that hasn’t made an appearance since 2005, and morbius, that c list vampire that ppl only know of because of Spider-Man and Blade.

Joker (the first one) was the only comic book film to be truly successful about a villain with no association to its protagonist hero. Figured they’d learn their lesson the first time Cat woman attempted it but they just keep trying. The only reason Venom did as well as it did was due to its familiarity and of course the tease of it including Spider-Man at some point.
@Rogue-a-PogueАй бұрын
The thing the Joker and the Penguin series had in common was that they weren't villains who relied on superpowers and thus a ton of special effects in order to get audiences interested. They had down to earth stakes and the emphasis was on their characterisation and why they became the people they did. A 'spiderverse' Kingpin movie might have actually had the chance to work well if well written, but he's more commonly associated with Daredevil than Spider-man now. This is why I'm curious about the new 'Clayface' project DC has greenlit. Still a great character but considering he'll require a lot of CG in order to bring to life and unless it's handled well an audience jaded with so much special effect laden superheroes may not take it seriously.

Hey Drinker I'd say Kraven is worth the watch. Just the fact that there's no sassy characters or forced quips makes it one of the better comic books-based movies in the last five years (yes, expectations are kinda low now). Russell Crowe's acting is great as a ruthless father, and other relationships between characters that I don't want to spoil here. The only downside to it is that people's marksmanship is really bad in this movie, but that's a running joke with Stormtroopers which doesn't bring the quality of Star Wars movies down. I would like to hear your opinion on Kraven, Drinker. If ever you give the movie a watch either at the movies now, or months later on a streaming service, share your thoughts!

Solid take. You hit upon all the points. Only thing I'd add is that some of the CG is wonky, and you never really get a clear sense of Kraven's powers - especially their limits. But otherwise the movie was very solid. I especially agree: what really made it was the intrafamily dynamics between the father and two sons. I knew that there was a reason that Russell Crowe did this movie - apart from the paycheck, obviously.

The actors also seem chill and will join fans and mock their movies. They don’t act like their movie was made by Jesus or something. I honestly wouldn’t mind a smaller spin off series, maybe a show but probably not a movie. Centered around Oscorp and it’s rise to prominence alongside Norman’s slow decent into madness as he becomes the Green Goblin. Spider-Man would only ever be a looming presence, he wouldn’t appear except maybe as a cameo in the final episode, and the series would be more of a character piece rather than an action series. Show us the man behind the monster, in a similar way that Joker did. But unlike Joker, there wouldn’t be a bigger message to take from it. It isn’t trying to say anything about society, rather show us how even someone as put together and capable as Norman was, can become something so dramatically different than who he really is. In the end maybe the Green Goblin was just his imagination acting up and all the terror he inflicts is just his dark desires coming out. Or it’s all real and despite needing help, nobody is either willing, capable, or knows that it’s needed. Maybe those at the top are letting this happen for money or power. Whatever the reason the audience would be capable of seeing why he might be willing to become the way he is, but that while sympathetic he isn’t some sort of martyr. He doesn’t stand for anything, there is no grander purpose to his actions. He acts without restraint, like the Hulk if he lacked a conscience. A monster unleashed with only fragments of the man he once was remaining. It could be really compelling, too bad nobody in Hollywood is capable of writing a story like that.

Guys, if you're even remotely curious about going to see this film, I'll just say this as someone who avoids everything and anything cinematic Marvel since Punisher War Zone: This film should be approached as a 90's style throwback R rated high concept action film. It's like if Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan was in David Morrell's First Blood (the character started off as a Tarzan knock-off and there are even homages to the Stallone film in this one). It's got more in common with something like Commando than any other recent MCU film. So if you go in expecting a fantastical, violent, one man army type action film, I don't think you'll be disappointed. This movie is not made for Marvel or Spider Man fans, even though it does pay respect to the character as written by Jim DeMatteis in Kraven's Last Hunt. But none the less, if you're a Marvel fanboy, I would recommend staying away. The main drawbacks, for me, were the wonky CG in those scenes where the film felt obligated to deliver on the superhero spectacle (it's the same trap all of these films fall into), and also the movie didn't do a good job in clearly laying out the full extent of Kraven's powers - and, more important, his limitations. But overall the movie does more right than it does wrong. What put it over the top for me were there surprisingly gory and creative action scenes - specifically those where it's just Kraven mowing down the human adversaries; and - arguably more important - the intrafamily dynamics between the father and two sons. Those scenes especially have real dramatic heft and I'm not going to lie: I felt them. I give me the movie, as it is and for what it is, a solid 7/10. I didn't regret laying down the cinema bucks. If this review resonates with you go and see it - give it a chance and make up your own mind.

How dare you insult Canon Films. They made some of the most entertaining schlock ever put to film.

They should’ve had Venom as a stand-in for Spider-Man. A Venom-verse where he fights alongside Morbius and is hunted by Kraven and the Sinister Six.

Sony’s Spiderverse died when you realized that Spider-Man himself wasn’t never going to show up.
@bghoody5665Ай бұрын
Maybe Sony was introducing all these Spiderman villains so they could eventually have a movie where they all team up against Spiderman. That could be neat.

Who would’ve thought a Spider-Man movie with no Spider-Man in it would fail so bad? 🤔

I heard Kraven and kept thinking of Vandal Savage for some reason. They keep forgetting that the only really interesting characters in the Spider Man comics were Spider Man and his very close friends/enemies. No one else had any real development and their powers were either ridiculously powerful or lame.

The notion Spider-Man movies without Spider-Man could work is utter madness. They deserve to loose all the money sunken into this

I'm treating myself to a double-feature this weekend: I'm pairing a non-watch of Kraven with a back-to-back avoidance of War of the Roherrim.

As a Spider-Man TV fan, I could have been willing to watch a movie about Morbius or Kraven -- if we didn't live in the 2020s and the contemporary media industry.
@kevinjones6020Ай бұрын
I don't agree with the sentiment. Venom movies were fine. I really enjoyed Morbius and have seen it a few times. Went to see Kraven later night and loved the stunts and action. Aaron and Russell were really good. I think the editing of Kraven could have improved the pace a little maybe.
@gordoncutter9241Ай бұрын
I can't go there with you on any of the Venom films but Morbius was alright, at best. Kraven is heads and shoulders above both though. Not a flawless film by any stretch, but solid. There's a pile on happening for this film. People just want to shit on it.
@BenDavies1977Ай бұрын
I'm not sure if you're forgetting that the film companies, or distributor, generally only get 50% of the worldwide box office back. The films you've mentioned must have made big losses when you add on at least $100m for marketing 😮

Is Russell Crowe playing Zeus again?
@ScottEgan69Ай бұрын
Ugh. THAT was peak low. It was like Russell Crowe was doing an SNL skit. Thor Love & Thunder needs to be memory holed for that. In Kraven, Crowe plays Kraven's evil daddy-o. It's a role I don't think he took too seriously. His performance, for me, was just him getting a paycheck. (I love a lot of Russell Crowe films.)

I actually like the in-your-face craptasticness of the Kraven trailers, because sometimes sheer awfulness is hugely entertaining. And BTW the original 1960s and early 1970s Spider-Man comics with Kraven the Hunter were all grotesquely awful. I can remember reading them as a child and thinking -- what is this grotesque and nonsensical character ? I actually think that Kraven being bitten by a radioactive lion is the single most fun thing they've ever done with him.
