For Critters that are wanting to get into painting. BLUF: the host and guest show two techniques for wet blending to achieve a fade effect. Paints: same brands as before, check the link in the description. Pallettes: one plastic pallette one wet pallette. (Explanation linked in time stamps) Definitions for newbies Fade: blending one color to another. Wet blending: blending two colors, tints, shades etc together on the mini to achieve a gradient in color change. Flow Aid: flowaids are surfacants, which are substances added to something to change its properties. Normally thinners, surface tension breakers, or the like with regards to minis. Equipment tutorial for a more permanent wet pallette. Improved wet pallette (not my design): one plastic box of Fererro Rocher -Chocolates -bunch of sponges -parchment/baking paper. Note: The paper should be the kind in the baking aisle that *isn't* waxy. Wet pallette construction(not my design): Get rid of the chocolates (you know what to do), get rid of the chocolates holder and put the sponges in the plastic box, where the chocolates were. Then fill with distilled water until the sponges are very damp. Place paper on sponges. This way you can seal the pallette, store in the fridge and keep your blends overnight ( so you don't have to paint all the minis in one sitting). Also chocolates. Timestamps 2:30 core question 3:15 techniques begin 3:52 Marisha explaining her version (feathering and wet blending) 4:08 flow aids 4:26 basic wet pallette 6:00 loading a wet pallette 6:35 blending on a wet pallette 7:15 -7:50 Marisha's feathering and blending to achieve a fade. 8:58 Marisha summing up my aesthetic in one facial expression 9:55 discussion on the differences between the techniques. 10:30 notes on flowaids 12:30 knowing when to put the brush down. 13:04 applying washes to a wet blended fade for effects. 13:24 Will is done with life 13:39 summation. *Notes on wet pallettes and paints* Not all paints are equal, and some paints do not do well in a wet pallette. Reason, some of the compounds in the paint will flow through the paper and you'll slowly notice a change. Contrast paints, pure inks, washes (straight from a bottle) and metallic paints often have parts of their formulas small enough to go through the paper. This is another good reason to show both versions of this skill. If you are interested in this hobby, there are many tutorials on KZbin of fine people far better than I showing you how to mini. This host, for example, has two sessions of painters guild that you might find useful. There are many others, jump down the rabbit hole. Remember, there are many starter kits for starting to paint. Also, those pieces of plastic ain't gonna paint themselves. Everybody was a newbie once, so if you're hesitant remember we want to see you figs ladies and gents. Welcome to the hobby.
