Handy trick for painting eyes: I use a needle to dab on the pupils or fix the super fine face details. It won't hold much paint on the tip at all, so collateral damage during a fix should be reduced.

Another trick is to not use white but a beige blob, then let it dry, then paint black stripes down, then paint the lids over that. It looks really good and doesn't require a steady hand. Then the really tough detail work ends up being the eye brows and lips!

For Critters wanting to get into the mini painting hobby. (I'm back in the right timezone). BLUF: the host and guest work on faces, skin tones and hair. Blending and washed are used for the effects. Real talk, work in the faces, and the eyes when you practice. You'll only learn via repetition. Materials should be linked in the description. Definitions: flow Aid. A surfacant used to thin the paints in this case. Flow improver, and acrylic medium could both work. Acrylic medium: it's acrylic paint, with no pigment. You can get it glossy or matte or in between. Details Literally, the face is a key portion of a mini, and eyes are a key portion of the face. Don't feel bad if you think yourmini face is derp. Practice practice practice. Look up face and eye tutorials. Practice the technique. You got this, and your first faces will look better than mine. Timestamps 3:15 technique intro 4:06 plug for painters guild s1 +2 4:34 plan outline 5:07 starting with eyes (note sexual chocolate daddy is blind, they aren't dotting the pupils for that). 5:29 forming the brush tip. Also don't eat your paint, that's what tea is for. 6:07 skin tones with pallette mixing. 7:08 you rough things in, and then go back and do touch ups. With thin paint, no one will know. 9:08 - 10:05 hair plan. 10:18 - 10:23 touch up as you go. 10:30 faces are the one thing all mini painters work on, you'll get there. 11:24 - 11:38 how to point your tip. Note, there is a difference between a cleaned brush and one with paint on it. Also, paint in the US doesn't have lead, and the paint would taste sweeter if it did. 12:24 - 12:30 that's how eyes work. 12:38 - 12:50 this is truth 13:10 - 13:40 wash step explanation. 14:21 I use little glass droppers, more control for my damaged hands. 14:55 when working with washes, have a dry brush handy to sick off any washes that flow where you don't want it. 15:28 work on different areas to let the piece dry. 15:53 medium or flowaid. 16:08 *note your ratios in a paint journal.* Paint journals are probably the best thing to have for improvement in the hobby. 16:28 - 16:50 the impact of washes and dry brushing on miniatures. 17:00 -17:20 just watch the brush techniques here guys and gals. 18:00 brush down. There is several mini painting tutorials, you can check out s1 + s2 of painters guild if you like this host, but feel free to Branch out and learn from everyone you can. There are mini painting starter kits out there, and reaper bones black, with nolzurs pre primed minis are good intro minis that are more reasonable in prices in comparison to others. (Looking at you GW and raging heroes... sheesh). Welcome to the hobby, and I hope this is useful. Now, show me your plastic 😈😄.

my best tip for eyes: work from the inside of the eye out horizontally and work in longer strokes rather than straight dots. first, paint the whole socket black. then add a smaller white dot inside the socket, that's your eye outline so youll want to try and preserve the black. lastly, work a small black dot for the pupil and make sure you match the approximate facing for the eyes or it'll come out mad cross eyed. happy painting everyone!!
