For those that actually do want to know what kind of paints, MOST paints for minis now days are water based. They used to be oil based, but dealing with paint remover became a concern for younger painters and water based paints are just as good.

@@TheVirusAJG They are acrylic, but not acrylic like you'd get at a craft shop. New to mini painting myself and I was very surprised when i realised how different the viscosity is between what you'd use on minis and what I'd use for cosplay pieces.

@@Selphie12 Mm, good to note. Mini acrylic is specially formulated for viscosity and pigment. I've heard of people thinning down craft acrylic for base coats, but I'm not sure I'd risk that myself!

For Critters who wish to start painting minis Techniques shown in this video Dry brushing, Dry Blending, Edge Highlighting, Washes. TL;DR: The host uses a layered dry brushing, dry blending, edge highlighting and a wash with a monochromatic range of colors to bring out details and texture in a cloak. Many of the supplies are linked in the description. TIME STAMPS 2:15 Technique intro 5:24 Most important thing he has said this whole series 5:45 Second most important thing he has said this whole series. 6:53 Dry Blending (when you blend from one color to the next by having a SLIGHT amount of the previous dry brush left when you reload your brushes) 8:31 BASIC edge highlighting (the part about using the side of the brush is a KEY point) 10:00 Intro to detail work techniques 12:46 Washes Mini: Yasha from the M9 mini line Guest: Bab's Paints: The TYPE were acrylic, water based paints. From the bottles and labels, they appeared to be reaper, AV, and Army painter. (Looking at what was on the desk). Washes: citadel washes. I am 75% certain the "black" wash was Nuhl oil (not an oil...just the color of black wash that citadel makes. For those unaware, citadel uses in universe names for colors...it's maddening to explain to newbies. This is made worse when you take into account there are actual oil based washes. ) Purple is unknown to me. Sorry I don't use citadel washes enough to know their esoteric naming scheme. Skipped steps and important notes: Minis are to be washed with soap and water to remove mold release Minis are to be inspected for mold lines, and sanded/ trimmed Minis are then to be painted with Primer. Primer is a paint formulated to be "sticky" to both surfaces and to other paint(they typically suck in the color department because of that). Mini paint is formulated to be thin-able and very bright in it's pigment (they don't stick well to surfaces because of that). If you don't prime minis that require priming, the acrylic paint will peel off. Minis were then painted, sans cloak. How do I know if I need to prime my minis? All metal minis need primer. Plastic minis can be made with pre primed plastic (the plastic is "sticky" to the paint) or they can come primed in the box. The mini should say. When in doubt, google it. For those wishing to get into the hobby, there are numerous painters with detailed instructions for the skipped steps. Painters Guild season 1 and 2 goes over this with this host learning from some rather patient teachers. Reaper puts out starter kits for newbies, which contain a few paints, a mini and some brushes. They're a good buy for a starter. Get to know your local gaming store, and your local art store. Both should have people who know more than I.

I use primarily Citadel colors and my army's main color is purple, so I can tell you the purple wash is Druchii Violet. Also important to note, Citadel doesn't call them "washes" (even though that's what they are). They call them "Shades." So if you're looking for the washes from this episode, look for Shade: Nuln Oil and Shade: Druchii Violet.
