For those aspiring to enter the design discipline, even graphic design, this is the most important thing to bear in mind with regards to criticism: Never ever take criticism personally. Your work isn't just for you, it is for your audience and your clients.
@caseym62723 жыл бұрын
I mean, I'd agree but only 50%. If you're doing it for clients, then yes. If you're doing it to just make art, and it's your style, then the audience doesn't matter. Even if you do post it.

*As a child, I wanted to become an automobile designer, I drew sports cars in notebooks in class at school and later at university. But, unfortunately, I did not have enough talent and aspiration for this. Now I am over thirty years old, but as a hobby, I make paper models of cars. Love for beautiful cars does not let me go. Apparently, this all comes from Soviet childhood, where we did not have beautiful cars on the street and had to invent and draw them ourselves. Thank you Frank, for such a wonderful channel, thanks to which I can return to my childhood again.*

Agree with the feedback regarding drawing and sketching as a valuable tool and something we as designers should strive to improve. At the same time, (in my personal experience) it's important to acknowledge the strength of sketching with 3D software also in the early concept and ideation phase. As a designer I've found myself going back and forth between hand sketching and 3D sketching using mesh modeling as sort of a quick clay modeling. Through it's very important to not let the 3D software decide the design for you, I belive there is a space for, and a strength in spending 20 min in for example blender and get a feel for the big shapes in 3D as part of this early sketches and ideation phase.

I believe one should get the feel from sketching, working on computers would be easy but those who have started from those have very odd sense of geometry and shapes and have hard time properly transitioning from different sides, which can be improved but at that point of time they'll always have to be doing more work rather than rough sketch to plan something, it ends up tedious in the long run

@AbeYousef3 жыл бұрын
not frank but i think everyone can agree it depends on what the car was like first and what it has become if it is a chaotic looking car without a clear design language, and you introduce some clarity to it, id bet he'd say its an improvement, if youre just adding bits and bobs sticking out, he would say its too sharp

1:32 - Sorry Frank, but I have to disagree with your advice. I have seen countless of sketches that may look great on paper (literally), however, they are either not manufacturable or they would proof to be quite impractical and difficult to drive in real life. On the other hand, there are numerous great designs done directly in 3d or by sculpting a scale model, because both of these techniques allow you to feel and adjust the shape and reflections in a more realistic way. A huge part of car design is the ability to play with the reflections of the car's body to create sensation and give character to the car. I used to create my designs in 2d up until year 2002. I also had several scale models made out of gipsum prior year 2000. Since then, I design directly in 3d, because for me it's a very convenient way to use real-life dimensions, wheels, seats and dummy human body as a proven reference for the car's exterior and interior. The ability to properly transfer your ideas in 3d is of extreme importance, because even the best idea may lose its attraction if it's execution is inferior.
