What I think would be cool to see on the channel is you, Frank, sitting down and sketching a new sports car from a couple angles - just, whatever concept or design comes out at that moment. Or a sedan! Or a 4x4. It’d be exciting to see you form something on the blank page, to see the details that come out as the car progresses (probably more detail than goes typically onto a first sketch), and to witness a thing being born. Though for your “A-cam,” I think for this idea, a bird’s-eye view would work better than an angled side-shot for the audience. 😁

Frank, this is a two part question,1 how did you feel to see your first design ending up becoming a feal car, 2 have you ever seen a design from one of your fans that impressed you so much that made you think if this person carries on with the designs that you've seen, that they really have the whole package to make it in the car world.
@FrankStephensondesign
@FrankStephensondesign 3 жыл бұрын
A feal car??? Hmmm. Well yeah, it’s nice when I see people fealing my designs, both physically and emotionally. And yes, we all start at the same level of drawing and designing, but the passion and determination of excelling doesn’t happen to everyone. It takes grit and hard work to keep improving. That shows through eventually and the best always rise to the top of the profession if they combine talent with being a good person.

@@FrankStephensondesign Frank, have you ever thought to yourself, if i had an unlimited budget, have you ever thought of the vehicle you wish you could design, or have you actually got a drawing of the vehicle ? Being from the UK and also being an automotive fan, i once heard on Top Gear, one of the three presenters said that Enzo Ferrari said " The E Type Jaguar is one of the most beautiful cars i've ever seen", was that a myth or did he actually say that, Also Frank when Gordan Murray came up with the Mclaren F1, with that mind blowing top speed of 240.1 MPH, did you think that cars nearly 25 years later would easily break the 300 MPH Barrier, Frank what were your thoughts of the then Jaguar XJ220, Compared to the Jaguar now. Frank thankyou for your youtube channel and your very honest critiques,God bless you Sir.

a tip to help learn perspective drawing. Get a copy of How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way. It's quite an old book from Marvel focussed on creating compelling comic art, but has excellent timeless sections on learning how to draw in perspective, how to draw elipses (wheels in the context of this channel) in perpective, plus it shows how you can break down any 3D object into simple geometric elements to make drawing them easier. I can't recommend it enough. It really helps you understand the spatial relationship between objects and convey mass in your drawings. You can find free PDFs of it, but if you're into drawing then a physical copy well worth hunting down.

Hi! Have you ever thought about driving a car with roof but without an A-pillar blocking your view in corners? (Canopy door) I still haven't seen a video discussing this topic and many cars today although very rigid, structurally, have really thick A-Pillars that block your view to the point of posing a risk to the driver or a person. I think it would be really cool to discuss the topic, taking examples like the Chevrolet Corvair Tetsudo Concept, Holden Hurricane, Renault Trezor Concept among others. I would love to see your take on that topic. 👍✌️

It seems you went easy on the female. But that's okay though. :) I believe the guy with the general arrangement is planning on building Cars, not just designing them. And by the way, in Aviation, the dips on the sides of his Car design (from the top view) are called Area Rule, a.k.a. the Pinched-Waist. It was the discovery of this Area Rule principle by Richard Whitcomb that allowed Jet Fighters to start flying supersonic. A good example is the F-102, which was subsonic, but when Area Rule was applied in the next model, the F102A, it went supersonic. You can find the F-102 & F-102A side-by-side comparison pictures on internet images. The two look like male & female next to each other. You can also just research Area Rule, and see the images that come up.

Thanks Richard. I studied the Area Rule in my aerodynamics class at ACCD. Applying it for car design is irrelevant as you’ll know that the pinched waist principle is necessary for higher speeds just because of the problem caused by an older jet’s wings. For anybody else reading this, flowing air piles up in the area around the fuselage at the wings and that in turn causes transonic drag and slows the plane down. The solution back in the early days of supersonic aircraft design was to tighten up the shape of the fuselage at the widest point of the wings. That made the air flow a lot more smoothly around them. Nowadays jet fighters don’t use the Area Rule because they have enough brute force to blast holes through the air irregardless of drag rise so this rule has almost no relevance today in military jet design.

@@FrankStephensondesign Thanks for the response Frank. I understand what you are saying about Area Rule, as it pertains to planes. However, since Super Cars have no where near the speed of a performance aircraft, and having to deal with the fact that the air is heaviest close to the ground, won't it help to explore old principles like Area Rule for Super Cars? After all, 300+ mph is the new benchmark for automotive top speed (and I am routing for American Super Cars). Compared to an aircraft, the faster a Car moves, the quicker & the more air compresses around it. This is because an aircraft has the advantage of flying at higher altitudes where the air is thinner, so much less wind resistance. But a Super Car has to operate on the ground, where the weight of all the air in the atmosphere sits, and fight through it. That's why aircraft don't like flying close to the ground, because the air is very thick, heavy, and stubborn there, which means it's easy to get into trouble at that level. With this in mind, it means the record setting & breaking Super Cars are going to need all the help they can get, as they go faster. Wouldn't Area Rule help at 300+ mph?
