Otanashi Noh Ken, meaning "Silent Sword" is the design of noted Japanese weapons expert, James Williams. CRKT followed the design to perfection and at an affordable price with the blade being in the Osoraku style, with with other Williams designs in the line-up for CRKT.

I got it! I also sent it to Tom Veff of Veff's sharpening service to have it serrated and sharpened... What I got back, is a "light saber" on steroids!!! They used to come with Veff serrations but now if you want them done, you gotta send it to Tom which, I HIGHLY recommend!!!

I don't mind the branding on the blade, I think the Japanese characters on the blade are pretty cool.

I reviewed this one a couple of years ago. I already had it in my collection because it's such a bad a** model. I had a guy with a Wicked Edge do a 1200 grit edge on it and it is absolutely ridiculous. It is also a very good example of how to make a large knife carry small. Even with the steel frame lock weight it disappears in the pocket. Good review.....

I saw your review Baz - Good work! Yes I hope to touch up the edge on a KME or Worksharp Precision Sharpener. We'll start with that and see how it goes. I don't doubt that it'll take a good edge as you mentioned... 👍🔥🗡️

@@OGBladeReviews, I am totally not going back to watch that review. My earlier stuff is a little cringey to me. Yeah, if you have a KME you should put an edge on it. I didn't have my KME when I had my ONK sharpened. The primary edge thickness won't allow for a super slicey edge but the tip gets so scary pointy.

Great blade! I have one and I love it but I don't use it or carry it anymore because it is my understanding that it's not in production anymore. And the ones that are still available seem grossly overpriced. CRKT has two new James Williams blades coming out in 2022. Incidentally, my Goken was very sharp out of the box....much better than the Otanashi Noh Ken and Hissatsu that I have.

Mine was recently purchased from White Mountain Knives. They're out of stock right now but might be getting more in. Also still listed on Blade HQ and Knife Center but out of stock. So not sure about whether CRKTis still producing them

The Inazuma No Ken looks very promising. Coated D2 steel, assisted flipper on bearings and deadbolt locking system. I’ve always wanted to try CRKTs deadbolt lock but haven’t because I have not been impressed with any of the designs vs price of the models that have it so far. Knife Center has the Inazuma and the HZ6 fixed blade available for pre-order now so I’m kinda tempted to pick up both.

a few years back, I asked my 90 year old Japanese mother to interpret "Otanashi Noh Ken" and she was adamant that it means "this blade won't hurt anybody". I laughed. Maybe it means that it won't be used for evil purposes. Don't know. That's how she read it.

I have two Otanashi Noh Kens, two Hissatsu folders, a Goken and a couple of Heihos. Their edges are really not that sharp. I can go thru paper on the sweep. The tip though is something else. Really pointy.

In martial arts training we were always taught that knife-length blades were primarily for stabbing and swords for cutting and cleaving at close and medium ranges, respectfully... 👍🗡️

My first Otanashi has quite a bit of lock rock. Do you think it's safe to continue using it? I've had it apart and no matter I do, the rock doesn't want to go away. I don't want to get rid of it since it's my very first Williams folder so it has a lot of sentimental value to me. My second one is solid. I had to use Loctite on the pivot screw when it was new. It has some lock stick.
