I'm left handed and still feel horrible for not trying to teach my oldest granddaughter to crochet when she asked.. that was a decade ago. It's not too late though but I could use some help. Maybe you could do a series of 10 minute videos teaching slip knot & CH (with every video obviously), then SS, SC, HDC, DC, Extended DC, TR, DTR and any other stitches you can think of? Maybe even make it into a pattern at the end of each video like they do when teaching knitting in other countries? Like when you teach slip stitch you could do BLO and turn it into a small dishcloth. With SC make little wrist warmers. HDC maybe do BLO again and do a twisted headband by turning the edge before sewing the ends together. Make scarf with DC .. And so on. Children and adults will learn and especially the kids will have a sense of accomplishment if they walk away with a finished object and it might keep their interest in the craft. Scrambling and making a cowl for my youngest granddaughter last minute and THEN I come across this video...Yes many have cocoon patterns but who thinks blanket yarn? Realized I have a piece worked up in Ice Cream Deluxe baby blanket yarn... Different pattern but just the right size and shape and enough remaining yarn to turn it into a blanket cocoon shrug for her!!! (Going to make extra long cuffs & fold them over so it'll last through next winter too) Thank you, thank you, thank you!

@@IDontSuckAtLifeakaJanis3975 I feel your pain. I'm right handed. My left handed granddaughter wanted to learn and we just stumbled all the way. She lost interest. I want to cry when I think about it. Again, thank you for the detailed suggestions. I actually do have beginner videos and I have a beginner scarf using the beginner stitches. I also did a beginner granny square tutorial and a separate video that shows my favorite, easiest, "slip knot". I could certainly expand on the beginner videos as you suggest. So much to consider here! Thank you!!

Bag-O-Day and Crochet With Tiffany Hansen among other channels have addressed this before. Saving to "watch later" doesn't really count as a view either... You have to go back and watch the video in its entirety. It also helps to watch the ads and at least 30-60 seconds of the extremely long ads. Watching the video through and THEN you can rewatch when you're ready to work up the pattern so you can pause, rewind, and fast forward all you want without it negatively affecting the algorithm (I think.)

Thank you so much for such a well thought out, helpful comment. What I used to suggest is to mute the video and let it run while you do something else. Of course someone would really want to be invested in my channel's success to go to that much trouble. I totally get that viewers just want to take a peek and if they like it they can always come back later to watch more. Unfortunately, KZbin doesn't understand that concept. The algorithm is programmed to "report back" that viewers are not liking my videos so I get "dinged". As for the ads, I think it's only 30 seconds that needs to be watched to count. All in all, after 5 years of putting in all the work and getting not a whole lot in return from YT...I need to revisit the whole strategy. Again, thank you SO much for understanding and commenting.

I like half double crochet because my item doesn't seem so "holey." DC leaves more gaps or open areas in my crocheted item.

FYI: I entered my KZbin search today... " crochet shrug with bulky yarn not chunky. " Even though I watched the entire video, it was not what I wanted. A Bulky 5 yarn project was what I wanted, not Chunky. Maybe you could be more specific about the features of your video to hit your target audience, but then again, maybe it won't matter. It is overwhelmingly apparent that I was very clear in wording the search criteria, and still landed on another Chunky yarn video. Good luck with the KZbin thing. Thanks for the video, I enjoyed watching it.

I wanted to reply right away because you sound very frustrated. First, it is KZbin's bots that pick out key words from the videos and recommend them to your search terms. This video clearly states at the beginning "I am using a Blanket yarn, a number 6, or super bulky". Also, UK and US terminology interchanges the terms bulky and chunky. Go yell at KZbin for sending you to my video. LOL! I'm kidding! I'm glad you enjoyed the video anyway.
