YOU dooooooooo TEACH soooooo WONDERFULLY and down to earthy that I am making this for the first time EVAH...I learned to crochet during 4th grade recess because my friend Mary Lou Shipsey asked if I'd like to learn. I am now 60 and have never made garments but boy do I make wonderful blankets. I am midway through this "super cool" toddler dress and will be making your hat, too. Crystal is Aaaahmazing and does such incredible tutorials! I’m loving this as I work it up for a granddaughter. I initially posted a Q to see if anyone had made this with the type of yarn I am using which is Feels Like Butter Lion Brand I believe- baby blanket 4, lavender and cream. This yarn is a small 4- but is stretchy as heck! So initially I just couldn’t see using a 6 hook on it. Well- a 6 does work. I did decide to make the first row doubles instead of singles to elongate the initial part of the collar/sleeves. Just a preference and it looks good. I’ve done many post stitch projects/Aran style blankets with all sorts of post stitching so I thought I’d toss in a few tips as I work this. 1. Be very mindful as Crystal mentions of the hiding stitch after making posts. Also- this applies to hiding stitches after making a shell. I’ve torn out a row two times because of this. 2. When you are starting these initial rows, you are going from a slip to a chain to a double- that can make for a shortened double and if you’re experienced/familiar with how to make standing doubles- you can skin the chain and just make a standing double to start the row. Personal preference here- some don’t like these. 3. It’s super easy to get lost between making your top doubles and front post alternates initially. Just be watching carefully. I tend to do about 4-6 sets and stop and check my work. That way I don’t have to frog so many if I accidentally went into the top of the wrong one. That’s usually the mishap because once you’ve established the front post, the rest are easier to see. But each round makes a new set. 4. Just a basic tip on making FPD nice and neat: slide your hook around the “belly” of the previous post, not the top and not the bottom. Imagine you are giving it a belt, not a hat and not shoes. 5. Speaking of FPD’s- keep your tension even. Too tight and they look choked, and get muffin tops and too loose and they look sloppy/floppy. 6. I can’t remember the row but the first row you start the shells, pay attention closely to your work and check about every 4-6, because it’s also easy to accidentally skip a stitch here or accidentally do the wrong one; single chain shell chain

I'm in the middle of making one of your other little dress patterns for my great-granddaughter but instead of buying slips I buy tank tops for preteens and teenage boys not only in white but in multi-colors also ,I learned this trick when I was raising my older children (9 girls & 7 boys , 15 were adopted so I had to be frugal and make every penny count )
