Crochet Finishing: Weaving in The Ends

When I do this and wash the item I crocheted it comes loose. I have been doing regular knots instead. Why do mine come loos? I weaved it in and out and even tried to weave it cross multiple rows. Oh! Wait, you just said if the yarn is slippery acrylic it might come loose. I think that’s my issue. What’s an alternative to weaving when your knitting acrylic yarn?
