Hi, I want to thank you for your simple, precise instruction on how to crochet. I am 66 yrs old and never learned to crochet. My mother crocheted and tried to teach me when I was young but she was left handed and I am right handed, so it never seemed to work for us. My mom passed away last year and I am deemed with cleaning out her house to be sold. There are quite a few finished afghans but I have found tubs full of yarn and squares that were never finished or put together. I figure no one will buy the squares so I decided to make them into pillows and finish them myself. After all I am a crafter all my life, all I needed was to be shown! I’ve watched a number of your videos now and your simplified way of demonstrating the different stitches and how to join granny squares has been fantastic and I have been hiding out from the heat by the air conditioner crocheting my little heart out! I have 4 pillows ready to be backed and it’s only been 2 days and I’m getting faster already. I just had to let you know how much your videos have helped me and it makes me happy to finish what my mother started. I plan to keep a few of the pillows when they are done to add to some of the additional afghans I brought home. and added them to the ones she made for me over the years. Thank you so much and once I ace granny squares I can’t wait to try some of those flowers you demonstrate (love the daffodils!) I subscribed to your channel too

I have to say that your videos are so detailed and in focus (I didn't think this was a Prob till I started crocheting and looking up videos lol especially when I'm like what stich are they talking about going through and I get lost bc you can't see) yours are never a problem for me to figure out. Im still fairly new and I love how you instruct. I watch the video and go along with you bc that's the easy way for me to learn till I get the hang which seems to take awhile since my brain injury and even though you showed us a stich you still explain it everytime till the end. I think this is great for beginners and you go at the perfect speed for me. Please post more patterns and cute animals!

I totally agree with Kelly. The Granny square stitch seems simple yet so many people have complicated the step by step process and I’ve become very confused as to how to construct my square. Some say chain 1 or 2 or even 3 after working a round. Some say only stitch 3 double crotchet into the starting hole. “Whew” like Kelly I am a beginner and really appreciate how kind and considerate you are when teaching us! Thanks to your tutorials and patience with your subscribers. Finally, I believe that I now understand how to make a granny square 😘

Amazing. Thank you! I do have a question on the back of the square there are lines of yarn that are stretched across from where I changed colors? Is this avoidable? Should I just cut them off?
@HappyBerryCrochet Жыл бұрын
Hmm you can try carrying the yarn as you crochet, just popping it on top of your hook before working your next stitch, otherwise it's a case of cutting the yarn and joining the new as you go and then tying in your ends ☺️🙏

SLOW AND STEADY is your clever way of ensuring those of us new to crochet, can actually do this. You've taught me flowers, and now a gorgeous granny square. A HUGE THANKYOU.A QUESTION - I've searched your site, but cannot find how to JOIN THE MANY 5 PETAL FLOWERS you taught me, with my very first lessons. I have at least 100, so would love to find out your very easy way to join all of these please.MY FAVOURITE CROCHET SITE and has been my way to while away the hours, while waiting on a big hip operation -unable to drive or do any of my usual daily things, so crochet has been my saviour.I am also finding it HIGHLY ADDICTIVE, so know this will all continue when I'm back on my feet again.

How do you stop the back of your granny square looking untidy when you change yarn colours? Mine looks a little scraggly at the back
@marjorietweed-brown76548 жыл бұрын
Claire Mackie While you are crocheting, hold that loose tail along the top line of your crochet project and crochet right over it as if it weren't even there. That catches the tail in every single stitch so you won't have tails to have to weave in afterwards. This procedure works on just about every project.

I've never seen a granny square worked with 4dc in each section - always just 3. I notice you have a really tight tension and wonder do you make 4 ds's per section for this reason?
@HappyBerryCrochet5 жыл бұрын
It depends on the weight of your yarn, 4dcs work well with thinner yarn whereas 3dcs are better for thicker yarns and so on :)
@kerinlee107710 жыл бұрын
This is a wonderful tutorial, but my next question would be... how do you connect the squares to make it into a blanket?
@HappyBerryCrochet10 жыл бұрын
Kerin Lee I'm just about to release a video tutorial on how I crochet granny squares together, but it is very simple, just turn them over and with wrong sides next to each other simply single crochet the edges together, making sure to count an equal amount of stitches on either edge. This is what works best for me.
