OMG I have a cape that looks exactly like this from Seraphine Maternity. I LOVE it, but it only comes in black. Good morning, to make it easier to get the hook in the loop, what I do es to make the foundation chain with a biger hook, for instance my thread calls for a hook number 5, I do the foundation chain with a hook number 6.

Just seaming the sides like you describe may or may not work. The back panel comes around to the front ever so slightly. The seam may not end up right at the side of the body. Also, you might need to adjust where the panels meet at the bust area (where the buttons are placed).

Love this but you only tell stitch count for small sizes and you need to put stitch count and inches for each size group, I am a plus-size and need to know how many stitches per row from bottom to top for each panel, thank you.

Hi Peggy. I'm so happy you like this design and want to make it. Most of my video tutorials only detail the size small stitch counts. A few of my most recent videos do include the counts for larger sizes. This design has the larger size instructions in the Etsy pattern here: www.etsy.com/listing/873891715/crochet-cape-pattern-for-chic-crochet Most of my more recent patterns show the instructions for all sizes in the written version on the blog. This particular pattern proved to be much more involved (on my end for the purpose of calculating counts for the larger sizes) so I did not provide that on the free written version. Hello @CrazyCoolCrochet, I was wondering how could I do the back panel when the stitches are more than yours once I made it to 100 rows. How can I make the single crochet decreases evenly on the shoulders? For instance, I did 152 stitches and your cape seems like you did 112 stitches, how can I start it? I would appreciate if you could help me figure it out.

You don't say what size you are working. The 112 is the number of stitches you should have on Row 99 for size small. If you have 152 at that row, you would have gone "wrong" long before that point. You should have been counting your stitches all along and discovered your mistake early on. You should have been working the same number (112) from row 2 through row 99. If you are working size small you cannot continue with 152 stitches. Unfortunately, you will need to undo your work and start over. Whatever size you are making, Row 2 - Row 99 should be the same number.

Sort hadn't finished previous review. I purchased pattern to find out gauge as dimensions weren't working out. But dimensions for small dont make sense as 73 stitches divided by e sc is 18 inches not 19.5 inches for small and rest of dimensions are also out. Could you please explain how you got dimensions as I would like to make it. Thank

I wanted to reply right away because you want to make this cape. I pulled out the cape that I haven't worn in a while and re-measured. It is 4 sc's per inch. And it measures 19 inches wide for the front panel. All I can say is that the cape has been worn many times and the yarn stretches. Then it was put away for a long time. Also personal tension can affect the outcome. All I can suggest is that you continue to work it according to the pattern/video for a size small and you should be fine. I'm sure you wanted a more mathematical response...but as I say 'crochet is an art, not a science'. I do hope this reply is helpful on some level.

I wanted to reply right away. While I would never want to discourage a beginner's excitement, this pattern is not really meant for a beginner project. I'll give you a heads up before you get started...My very next design/tutorial is another cape. That one is absolutely more geared for beginners. It is an entirely different design (opens in the front with the front panels overlapping a little and buttons closed at the neck). It has big "slits" on the sides for armhole openings. I was planning to upload it around 12/26/21. If you do go ahead with the purple cape (YOU GO GIRL!)...it takes me about 4 days (working about 8 hr days). I can't tell you how many hours it might take someone else. Let me know how it works out for you!

beautiful cape...only problem is that the free pattern is for small..you do not give stitch count instead you sell the pattern for larger sizes...that is not free

Thank you for watching and letting me know your thoughts. I did reply to this issue regarding sizing and if it's free or not at the blog. Here is what I wrote: This design required quite a lot more work, additional days of designing and calculations to determine each of the other sizes. Normally I’m able to give simple changes and multiples for larger sizes. However, this design, which looks deceptively simple, required a lot more work on my end. I understand most folks want free patterns. However, it takes quite a LOT of work to come up with fresh designs, write patterns, create videos, write blog posts, create pins and graphics, post on several social media platforms, purchase supplies for everything....AND offer most of this for FREE. If every once in a while something creates even MORE work for me, I may need to charge for the printable pattern. I do hope you understand my reasoning.
