Thanks for this video. I really need to unpack my CrockPot!! When I was a boy we didn't have a CrockPot. My mom would put beans on the stove first thing in the morning before we went off to school and she went off to work. It was my older sister's job to add water the beans when she got home from school. It was my job to add the water that she never remembered to do!!!

Daniel I know it’s late but this made me laugh😂 My mom had the convenience to stay home and pretty much everyday there were beans on the stove. I think a few times my mom accidentally burned them when she went to get us from school and they ran out of water and that is the worst smell ever😂 I love my mama tho☺️

Thank you. El Paso in Louisiana serves charro beans and no one there knew the origin of the word. The beans there run from OK to great, depending on how long they have been on the stove, the longer, the creamier and better they get. I will try these today.

I know this is an old post, but "struggled" is the key word. From pressure cooker to oven, soak and not soak, I gave up. So, tonight, I bought a cheap 3 quart, bag of beans, and the food she mentions and I'm going for it. I saw your comment during this video and I thought, well, this is my last try and this Angelica said it worked. Well, we'll see in the morning.
@miguelmarquez41924 жыл бұрын
@@c_farther5208 what troubles did you have? Beans arent difficult, ts when you try to do stuff to it that they act up. They can be baked, boiled, crockpot, or pressure cooked each to suit a specific dish. But if you name the problem we can usually tell you the remedy. Also whats your altitude? High up in the rockies so i cant add salt til the end for example. It leaves the center uncooked and the outside falls apart. My mom is around sea level and can cook a perfectly firm outside and creamy inside bean and salt doesnt ruin her final product.

We don't have pinto beans where I live right now, only Red silk beans. Doesn't matter, I'm gong to make this recipe in a cpl of days, when I feel like I can stand up without falling! I used to eat charro beans when my ex's grandma would make them (she used a clay pot from Mexico!). I have missed them so much, as well as her. Such a lively, lovely lady! Thanks SO much for the recipe! I'll be toasting her and you with my first bowl!

I also make my beans in the crock pot, but I use 6 cups. I find soaking them overnight, they soak up the water and expand. So once they go in the crock, I just cover them an inch or two with water, add minced garlic,, or fresh, can't overdo it, and a frozen jalapeno, which I freeze in bulk for my beans. I also do not add salt until the beans are about cooked. Oh, and if I have some, I add manteca lard, but just a regular spoon full, to give it that extra flavor. That's it. I start them in the morning and they are ready for dinner. Loved this video because it reminded me how my mom used bacon, but hubby doesn't prefer bacon with beans. Also, want to try the cilantro because when I've added the onions and tomatoes, they were delish.

Okay, went to Menard's and got a 3 quart Hamilton Beach for 14.00 dollars. Went to Meijer and got everything you talked about. I have a countdown timer so it will go off in 8 hours on high. I sure hope this all works. After I saw this video and how easy this was, I had to do it!!!!!!!! 11/12: Came out great, omitted the meat, I don't trust meat in the slow cooker because most don't go above the 120 degree mark. Enjoyed this immensely. Mine were so thick, dumped it on rice. The beans were not overcooked at all, the skins stayed on, absolutely perfect. Like having mashed potatoes in the middle of the bean, which I understand is perfect. Gosh, this was so easy and great.

tried this recipe today, for the first time. OMG! I didn't have bacon on hand, but instead I added a bit of fat leftover from when I made chicken adobo. This is how I make them as well. Many times I use a chopped green bell pepper and then add 1-2 Tbsp chile sauce (siracha brand in the Asian aisle). Also, some greek seasoning (very flavorful and full of garlic). For my large family, I will use about 1.5 lbs of carnitas meat. I have frozen portions that I just plop on the top. I then add much more water and cook on high for 8 hours. SO GOOD!! I will eat them for breakfast and lunch...

Seems delicious! Will try. Just as a tip, instead of putting the uncooked bacon or ham in so it cooks in the broth you can also cook it in a seperate pot for a bit so it releases the fat, cook there the ingredients and then throw your cooked beans (which you cooked in the crockpot) in the pot. In my experience it releases more flavor and texture like that and gives your vegetables more flavor.
