I'm married to a Texan from San Antonio. Too bad his family moved away when he was four so he didn't really learn a lot about the "texas" ways of cooking. Thankfully he has an adventurous wife who loves to cook and especially embrace culture from cooking styles all around the world. This looks delicious! Second video I've watched of yours but I love your channel so far! Can't wait to get the spices you showed in your brisket chili video so I can make it (with my own spins because that's just how I cook) as soon as it gets cold enough here in southeastern NC!

I would defrost it first because it’s going to weep so much water as it defrosts. Also, could potentially stay in the temperature danger zone for too long. You can defrost really quickly if your microwave has a defrost option! Also, running under water, submerged in a bowl works fast too. Hope this helps!!

It shouldn't really, especially covered in seasoning and the doused in BBQ sauce. That said, you can also use beer or just some plain old water. Something about pouring the disgusting, sugary, syrup slop that is soda over the top of a beautiful pork butt that I'm planning to eat grosses me out. If you get a little bit of moisture in the pot via some water, you'll do just fine. Your flavor is going to come from the seasonings, the rendering of the fat, and if you so choose, a sauce of some type after it's done. No need for soda

We made this and were a little disappointed. You need to trim most of the fat off, and skim grease after cooked. We used Guy Fieri’s BBQ sauce, which is like $6 a bottle and the whole dish was too sweet. Everyone ate a half a sandwich or so, but not a single taker on doggy bags. Probably our fault, but wouldn’t use this recipe again. Maybe you could recommend a few bottled BBQ sauces that work well with this.
@TheUrbanCowgirl Жыл бұрын
It sounds like the Guy Fieri BBQ sauce was so sweet it made it inedible. I recommend Meat Mitch and Stubbs BBQ Sauces for this reason. I don’t recommend any bbq products made by tv chefs as these are major consumer products made as cheap as possible and corn syrup is cheap so that is the main ingredient! You can find lots of barbecue brands by wonderful bbq influencers, competition teams, and real barbecue restaurants that are 10x better than celebrity’s brands. Stubbs is a brand you can find in grocery stores which is a true slow stewed bbq sauce. That’s your best bet! Thanks for stopping by and hope it goes better for you next time!
@airadaimagery692 Жыл бұрын
Just don’t buy a BBQ sauce that has the word “sweet” written on the bottle.

What Cowgirl said, Sutbbs is good stuff. I buy a couple bottles when it's on sale. Or you could make your own, find a recipe that sounds good to you and use half or no sugar :) And drain off as much fat as you want, heck put the meat in a strainer and drain it all out but fat during the cooking process is kind of important. You can control fat and sugar.

Cooking a bunch of good meals all at once doesn't get much easier. Will definitely give something llike this a shot, but I see I'm not the only one skeeved out by the soda. I really am sure it tastes good/turns out well, but if your someone that's a bit health-conscious about one's meals, the idea of meat simmering in nasty, extremely sugary syrup for hours is a no go. Then adding more sugar via the seasonings, and a bunch more via the BBQ sauce at the end ... just a bit much. That said, I kind of doubt that the soda has that much of an effect on the end flavor, no? In any case, you can use water, beer, or some other liquid to achieve the same effect. You can just as easily let the flavor come from the seasonings and the rendering of all the fat. To each their own I suppose. No need to throw the whole thing out because of one easily swappable ingredient.

@TheUrbanCowgirl4 күн бұрын
I think its because I just walk away and abandon it. I don't open the thing, and don't stir, especially if I cook this overnight. The little pieces up top naturally brown and dehydrate a bit. That being said, it's not like meat candy on smoked pulled pork. It just a little brown and I guess looks good in pictures. I wouldn't obsess over it because I don't think the little brown bits add much to the flavor. The sauce you choose to add is what is going to razzle dazzle it up.
