I think this is an example of Sonny almost breaking before the amnesia arc. He almost lost himself, but once he released all that negative emotion onto the serial killer- He's able to find himself again, remember who he is, and let go of the obsession that almost led him to beat the serial killer to death.

Mt. Rushmore, I 100% agree with your comment. Spot on 👍. That moment is one of my top 10 favourite Miami Vice scenes of all time. The moment he sees the woman in fear, he tries to reassure her (in his shaky condition) of his intent to help and at the same moment, begins to come around for himself as well.

This was the only real episode I remembered since the 80's. I was STUCK. I remember my thoughts were around crockets obsession, and he showing his side of weakness. I remember I felt so much for him, because I knew he didn't loose it.

such a great series of scenes... Rico patronizing Sonny, then Sonny pleading with Rico, the scene with Gilmore when he picks the photo, and the scene when Sonny takes out all his frustration on the assailant. Quality stuff there.

The episode shares many similarities with Michael Mann's 1986 movie Manhunter, the first Hannibal Lecter film, which has an almost identical plot (an investigator struggling to retain his own sanity whilst delving into the mind of a disturbed criminal, who is breaking into people's houses, in order to catch him). Yes and I always thought that vice was a narcotics unit going after high end drug dealers, but some episodes turned out to be homicide cases. It was still an awesome cop drama series. Definitely the best of the 1980s.

From the start of Vice til the End was a slow burn of him being broken the job took its toll. Cost him a chance at reconciliation with his ex wife cost him the death of collegues & friends and people he was trying to protect while on the job cost him his wife who was pregnant getting killed the system beat him down on more than one occasion he was getting darker every year....
