Glyn , I’m a pro with many years experience. You have taught me so many little workflow and processing gems. They are saving me many hours over the course of a year of many 1000’s of images. Not to mention improving what I deliver. I love how you present the content, it’s so easy to understand and absorb it all. Thank you very much! I want to buy you a pint next time back in the UK 🍻

Another great set of insights - thanks a lot Glyn. And a question, if I may - why did you not include his feet in your veteran's photograph? It's a serious question on my part as I often find such lower limb cut-offs quite unsettling - and always thought was an amateur's 'mistake'. What am I missing?
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Purely a personal taste mate; some also dictated by the very cramped conditions the portraits were taken in, with pretty much all of them taken in their homes.

Quick question - when you were doing the stretch crop in the first two examples, why didn't you have the Content Aware check box selected? I find it does a pretty good job of filling in when you stretch the canvas in this way.
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Great question Paul. in the first image I didn't use it because Gordon was so close to the edges and there's the risk of it grabbing parts I didn't want. Using the Content Aware Fill properties meant with the overlay I could control what was used. As it happens it did a good job but I don't want to have try something then see it doesn't work and then try again in a different method. For the 2nd image...content aware didn't work when I tried it in the main dialog by giving repeating patterns AND the weird shadow shape so the checkbox wouldn't work anyway. Granted in some images it does work but I finds a simple checkbox is like going in blind and wondering if it will work or not. Hope that makes sense
@djerfiyoucef40662 жыл бұрын
great 👏👏👏 12:37 But you had to create the man's shadow over the piece of wood DJERFI YOUCEF

Yeah I did in that in the final picture as well as change the colour of the skirting board too; this was just to show how to make it :)

Hey @Glyn - I wonder if you've tried one more way to crop a photo bigger: the Crop tool with that tool's Content-Aware option checked in the Options bar. What's your take on that method?
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jan :) I tend to avoid using the Content Aware checkbox in the Options Bar because it's more like guessing..."Will it work?"kind of thing as opposed to diving into the Content Aware Work Area and seeing the results and tweaking if needed. I've not ticked that checkbox or used Edit > Fill > Content Aware, since Content Aware was updated.

Quick question: Why do the panorama in PS rather than LR? Is there a different and better engine doing the merge or is it purely because PS would be used for the subsequent stages?
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Hi There. The Merge to Panorama option in Lightroom doesn't work for this unfortunately which is why I used the Merge to Panorama in Photoshop once the cropping had been done. Hope that helps.

What is "flaten image" doing in general?
@glyndewis2 жыл бұрын
Compressing 'all' of the layers in an open file in Photoshop. This reduces the file size but is also destructive in that, that particular file (once saved) can no longer have the 'step backward' command applied to reveal and edit the layer content.
@ibessf2 жыл бұрын
@@glyndewis okay now i need the definition of "open file" and now i wonder what the difference is between "flaten image" and "Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E" where all marked layers will be combined to a smart object.

I tried using Content aware scale and it’s distorted the subject in the center of the picture.

Have you tried it without / without the 'Protect Skin Tones' icon turned on / off ? Also are you using a colour or greyscale image?
@guusvangunst75532 жыл бұрын
Dear Glyn, why not telling that by simply extracting a side by cropping and ticking content aware you enlarge also your image. So you don't have to select on the side you wish to enlarge? Greetz Guus

Courses are forever. If you get my newsletter or read my blog back around august of 2021 I changed my platform to a far better one for people to not just download but also stream and take progress tests. If you’ve never used that new platform then you don’t have an account so I need you to register and let me know OR email me and I’ll set you up. Email is best place for that not KZbin as KZbin is my KZbin channel…completely different.
