What amazes me is the different levels of conditioning in "healthy" older people. As a 65 year-old who still keeps in contact with many high school friends, I really can see the extreme differences. I am on the upper end of the spectrum. I do a weight lifting regime three times a week and power walk four days a week for 45 minutes to an hour. I shoot baskets on a basketball court for about a half hour a couple times a week, just to maintain some coordination and flexibility. I weight about 185 pounds which is about ten pounds more than I had when I graduated from high school. I have a classmate who really does nothing in terms of fitness. More than a few dozen stairs takes a 15 second rest. He weights about 100 pounds more than he did the summer after high school. He complains about knee pain though he says there is structurally nothing wrong with either knee. He is literally a semi-invalid though there is really nothing physically impeding him from fitness. He tells me that he simply does not have the self-determination to begin an exercise program. It is really rather sad.

I'm sooooo inspired and completely adoration of you Laurie...just started cross fit and been about 8 times now...I have counted each one at this point bc I have grown stronger with each and every single visit. I am blown away by crossfit and what a dramatic change it makes on ones life...there is even a bond between those you work out with that is somewhat unexplainable.

Laurie Nelson is my new hero!! I'm turning 44 at the end of the month and am exercising quite a bit as I'm training for the LA marathon. Crossfit twice a week, yoga once a week, and 3/4 runs a week. However, I'm feeling older each day when I look at those around me at the gym and everything always hurts. My dream is to just do one damn pull up! Now that I've seen Laurie do it (and more!), maybe it's actually possible. Thanks for the inspiration! :D
