Randomly found a cover of this song and fell in love with it. Imagine my surprise when a little googling reveals my favorite band also has a cover of the exact same song!

Such a painful story behind this John Haitt song. This is a great cover. The boys treat it with the respect it deserves. I love Counting Crows unique talent and sound.

I'm missing Immy playing mandolin for Hiatt's most recent stuff. If it weren't for the vocal phrasing, there would be almost nothing else to the intensity of the original recording of this song, which is so deep that Hiatt can't even sing it live with the same effect that his album recording has. In this Counting Crows recording, Duritz outdoes Hiatt's singing technique, but nobody can outdo Hiatt's overall voice in a Blues song. It sounds like a lonely studio with this version, but you have to respect the solo guitar when listening to Blues.
