Crossrail is the mode, such as Underground, DLR, and Overground and should be referred to as such. The roundels should say Crossrail. For example there aren't light blue Victoria Line roundels on the tube! Elizabeth Line is a line on Crossrail. When the second line opens it should be for example 'The William Line'. So another line on what is the mode called Crossrail.

I'm not a londoner, but if I am one day or if I go as a tourist again, I'll definitely call it Crossrail, just the same way I used the words "overground" and "tube" referring to modes of transport. At least it works with "overground", because it's a huge single net. But, if Crossrail has another line on it in years to come, it'll be fair to call whatever names those lines would have.

the french have always used numbers/letters tho. their metro uses numbers (ex ligne 13) their RER system (which is similar to crossrail) uses RER A, RER B, etc. CR1 and CR2 could work?

Disclaimer. Not a Londoner (but Mum and Dad were). What the heck is wrong with Crossrail. It describes the line and is two syllables, easy to say and remember. Keep it Crossrail. (oh, loved the three tourist girls over your left shoulder).

if it is called crossrail I imagine that'll be shortened to 'the X' and if there's a 2nd crossrail, it'll be 'the X2' - oh and it looks like it's finally getting warmer there in London - Good! By the time I get there, I won't need a thick bulky jacket

Hey Syrus. I will note that in many of your videos you called them "Thameslink line" and the biggest offender: "DLR line" [shudder]. So "line" isn't explicitly the Tube... I personally love Geoff's solution: Crossrail is the mode (like the Underground), Elizabeth line is the service (like the Central line). But I HATE the mode roundels saying "Elizabeth line" not "Crossrail", and I'm from Australia!

I'll be calling it the Elizabeth line, although I do feel as if TfL have made a mistake in branding it as they are. On the recent new signs at stations (Farringdon I think), they have 'Elizabeth line' written as if it was a tube line, but as well as this there is the purple roundel symbol too. To me, if they're intent on naming it as if it was a tube line, then it should be branded as part of the Underground, with the red roundels and all (even if it isn't technically a 'tube' line). I do think, however, that 'Crossrail' is a very utilitarian name for the service. All the other lines, eg 'Bakerloo' and 'Jubilee' have nice, pleasant names, whereas 'Crossrail' sounds like the name for a heavy engineering project but not much else. I do hope that, in the future, it will be incorporated into the Underground network as, for the vast majority of people, it will be used as just another tube line (albeit one stretching far out of the Greater London boundary!).

The problem I have with "Elizabeth Line" is the fact that it was only done by Boris so he could try and get a knighthood. I'm fine with Elizabeth Rail, but it was named like a London Underground line, which it isn't. I'll have to stick with Crossrail.

100% crossrail. Always will be. Crossrail has been the name since the route was initially devised in the 90's or perhaps earlier. It is a cross-London-rail-link. Either way, im sure anyone can agree 'elizabeth line' isn't as bad as 'hammersmith and city line' that sooooo should be called the hammerking line (Hammersmith-kings cross)

TheRenaissanceman65 crossrail 2, or make crossrail the mode and give each of the lines a name. By putting 'elizabeth line' on roundels outside of a station, that means 'elizabeth line' is the mode but why would the mode of transport have the word 'line' in it. At Brixton, the mode of transport isn't 'victoria line' and the roundel certainly isn't light blue. If Crossrail 2 is classed as the same mode of transport as crossrail when it's built, the name of the line will be whatever but outside stations, it will have a purple roundel saying 'elizabeth line' which is misleading and doesn't make sense. Either way, we don't need either of the lines named by another royal, they already have the jubilee and Victoria lines' and don't need more
